“Amazing lunch at Zimbali's”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2014

As all the reviews suggest, this is an experience you must have. The people here are so nice and what an amazing meal Chef O'Brian made for us. I would go here any day over the Rick's café tourist type of place. This is real Jamaica.

“Farm to table experience near Negril”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2014

Staying in or near Negril? Be sure to add a visit to Zimbali for either lunch or dinner. Food was excellent and the service was fantastic. You can tell the people working there enjoy what they are doing. Watching how the food is prepared and having a guided tour of the gardens makes this a fun trip. The hillside is full of fruit trees, beautifully maintained in the Jamaican way, and one works up an appetite quickly.

We were there on a Wednesday and that included drumming during dinner. The drum beat and vibe reminded me of dining in Africa at a high end lodge. The hosts are to be complimented on catching that feeling and praised for sharing it with others.

The food choices are limited, you will not find Mac and Cheese on the menu, and that is a good thing as everything was fresh and quite tasty. The main choices are chicken, fish, or veggie based meals - with ample servings and prepared right in front of you.

Recommend bringing bug spray if you are annoyed by the insects and be prepared for a glorious hike in the hills as you are guided through the farm. We enjoyed our visit and will be back again.

“Great Day trip!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2014

Not much I can add as all of the previous reviews were very accurate and helpful.
I would just like to add a few tips:
1) Comfortable shoes, clothes and a hat are very important!
It got very hot on the tour and was a bit of a workout with the hot sun and steep hills.
I think they need to provide water mid-way or remember to bring your own on the farm tour.
2) Variety with menu would be great plus it would encourage some visitors to return.
We had the same meal as most previous reviewers and although delicious, I know these talented chefs had a lot more variety of food available from the farm. Switch it up!

Had a great day off resort and took some nice pics too. The owner is a very nice guy and easy to chat with. The farm manager Gigi, is a great wealth of information and a hard worker and I feel bad we forgot to give him a tip. Hopefully Mark takes good care of him.

This tour is a MUST DO (at least once).

“World Class! Authentic, Unique, Memorable and TASTY!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2014

This is a world class cooking demonstration!! The coconut and papaya sushi and chocolate cake made with black beans completely blew me away. I will be attempting all of these dishes at home.

Each dish is lovingly prepared and presented to a Michelin Star standard. It makes the otherwise incredible street jerk cuisine seem a little ho-hum.

As a vegan, I have never had my dietary requirements so well received and catered to. The chefs barely flinched, and proceeded to offer a special vegan demo on the side.

I can still taste every mouthful I ate at Zimbali like it was yesterday. Worth every cent and more. Thanks Zimbali!!

“Authentic Jamaica”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2014

Before my wife Henny and I booked a vacation to beautiful Negril, Henny spotted the #1 rated restaurant for the area, a mountain cooking school called Zimbali's. It was a deciding factor in choosing our vacation. We weren't disappointed. Zimbali's Mountain Cooking Studio and Retreat (yes, it also has lodgings and a spa) is about a half hour drive from Negril through the inland Jamaican countryside. It's simply exquisite. We live in Muskoka, Ontario, and are very supportive of the field to fork and 100 mile eating concepts. Look no further in Jamaica. The day starts off with a delicious and refreshing fruit cocktail and is followed by a hillside farm tour. It's amazing what Mark and Alicia have done in 7 years to develop their 100% organic fruit farm along side the lodgings and spa activities. We enjoyed a three course lunch that included what I call 'frushi', fruit sushi, a choice of a chicken or fish main course and dessert. The two chefs carefully showed us how to prepare the delicious dishes and both have charming personalities which makes the whole experience seem to end too quickly. We can only give this experience our highest recommendations. Next time back in Negril, we'll be going back for the 4 course dinner. Zimbali's Mountain Cooking School is an 'event' that should not be missed. Cheers to Mark, Alicia and your wonderful team! If any one was looking for an episode for a food network, this is definitely the place to visit.
