“Relaxing, secluded get away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

We stayed for two nights at the Azabu and very much enjoyed our time. Being welcomed by the roaming peacocks as we arrived was a unique experience and the views into the forest from the room's balcony were great and a good USP from the average hotel in Byron Bay.
The cost of getting taxis in and out of town twice a day starts to add up but this is a necessary evil for the secluded setting of the hotel and isn't an issue for those who come in their own car any way.
The rooms are not massive but certainly big enough, cozy and clean.
Staff were very friendly, always keen to help, very accommodating and cook up a great breakfast.
If you are looking for somewhere a stone's throw from the beach and in the heart of the action of Byron Bay, Azabu isn't for you, but if you are looking for a tranquil, peaceful getaway, then you can't get much better.

We stayed just one night for our first wedding anniversary but wished we could have stayed more! The location was very peacefull and relaxing, the room was very clean and comfortable loved the sunken spa was definatly relaxing to feel like you were having a bath in the rainforest! The breakfast was amazing! And the staff were very friendly and helpful in recommending great places to see eat and drink in Byron!

My partner and I stayed here for 3 nights for a little relaxing getaway and we were not disappointed! The location is peaceful and beautiful, the managers were so friendly and helpful, the spa was amazing after a big day out and the breakfast was sooo delicious and we then went out the front and we were greeted by beautiful peacocks!! Recommend it for any couples looking for a relaxing getaway.

We checked in for a winter weekend getaway. Great location, in a quiet forest glade 3km drive up a quiet country road from Byron bay. Friendly helpful staff. Unfortunately the room design really lets the place down. Rooms are organised in groups of two, which are separated by a paper thin wall. Everything your neighbours do is audible. I love a spa bath, but having a sunken spa bath in the corner of bedroom was weird!

Azabu is pleased to hear you enjoyed the location and friendly staff. We have 5 boutique cabins, 1 is on a level by itself, whilst there are 2 more levels with 2 cabins on each level. They all have balcony's which jut out into the forest, which gives you the feeling of experiencing the forest.
Most people love the spa rooms with the sunken spa baths in the rooms, as you can enjoy a bath, with the balcony doors open, and have the feeling of being in the forest. We apologise you had noisy neighbours, if you had advised us (there was a night managers phone number available) we could have had the opportunity to improve your situation. regards Amanda, Manager, Azabu Nature Guesthouse.

My partner and I recently stayed at Azabu for a few nights and would definitely stay again! Had a great massage to start off our stay....then some champagne on the balcony with a view of the rainforest.... Breakfast was great with lots of yummy vegetarian options and our hosts were very accommodating. Just what we were looking for!

The recent Tripadvisor reviews generally looked positive, so we picked Azuba over closer places to crash for a local wedding. 'Paper thin walls' (29 April 2011 Tripadvisor review), why didn't I listen to you?

+ The outlook from the rooms was pretty and the breakfast pleasant.

- But it was far from relaxation. The rooms were cramped (<4m x < 5m) with quite a peculiar angular floorplan and the sunken bath a nightime hazard. Our service was polite but a bit officious. Access to Azuba was badly potholed. Worst, the walls .. we do not want to hear our neighbours walk/shower/anything else. Recommend the owners consider some noise reduction options.

Even as a place to crash, we would not return to Azuba.

AZABU acknowledges your comments. Our guest rooms are all described accurately as studio style & photographed on our internet booking sites. Our staff are at all times professional and courteous, as described in previous tripadvisor reviews. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your breakfast at Azabu and the forest outlook from your room.

Azabu is a great place to stay if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life to enjoy the exotic charm of Byron's Hinterland. Mandy, Jules and Matt are delightful hosts and their high standards of customer service and local knowledge are second to none. They made for a wonderful 7 day stay with day trips to explore Byron Bay and its nearby surrounds.

The room was polished and with its own balcony, created a sense of secluded environment. This together with the scrumptious 3 course breakfast and day spa treatments available, topped off a very relaxing and rejuvenating week.

Would highly recommend the guesthouse as a choice for all to stay.
