“Two Paws up!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2009

My wife and I along with our two dogs (Lilli and Summer) visited Woodhaven for a 3-day getaway and were fortunate to get both great weather and excellent hospitality from David and Michael at Woodhaven. They really make you feel at home with their relaxed approach of "mi casa es su casa". Very accommodating. If you can, pencil in an extra hour in the moring to have that extra cup of coffee to chat with David and the others guest...about any topic; you pick'em! And make sure you have one of David's freashly made banana or carrot cakes on your plate.

Enjoyed the communal lodge, the awesome breakfast and dinner as well as the company of other guest and their dogs (including resident dogs Bailey and Sonny, I beleive there were 7 dogs hanging around).

This place is a gem for those who want to get away to the country. Our dogs made themselves at home and soon were following Bailey, Sonny and the others around the lodge. We'd definitely go back.

Avalon cottage is on the same property as the Lodge, and seems to be rented/managed by the same proprietors. While the lodge is indeed nice, Avalon cottage was a disaster: junk littered the property (including a rusting bed frame, bags of garbage, pieces of wood with nails sticking out--particularly dangerous when you've got dogs running around).

The inside of the cottage also had some pretty awful characteristics: mould-covered wall and ceiling over one of the beds, a toilet that wouldn't flush properly, grime-covered floors and other surfaces, a bucket of rotting, stagnant-water-soaked sponges under the kitchen sink... There were also minor irritants such as the lack of a CD player, a wood stove that we couldn't use because the chimney pipe had been ripped from the ceiling — not to mention the unsightly ceiling tiles that were left to dangle out of position—a filthy, tiny bbq, paper-thin walls between the bedrooms….

The overall result was that it put a damper on our enjoyment...six friends who choose one special cottage every year for a week of relaxation. This cottage was by far the worst. It didn't help that the management called us a bunch of city wusses for complaining. We speculated that the owners were just squeezing the last bit of revenue out of the property because it wasn't worth their effort to maintain or upgrade it.

We won't be back. Avalon should be demolished.

There is nothing like getting away to a place where you can have your morning coffee at the lake while the dogs swim in the water. Even better when you wake up from a cozy sleep after a great dinner. We enjoyed ouf fist stay in the B & B and will be back with friends.

Woodhaven rocks! From the moment you arrive at this wonderful and welcoming inn, you can feel your stress melt away. The place is ultra cozy, incredibly welcoming, and frankly, good for the soul.
Michael and David welcome you as if you're family, and overall the experience of staying at Woodhaven has a "coming home" feel to it. Seriously. I can't describe it any other way: You just feel as if you belong there.
The rooms are comfy and cozy, and the inn is VERY dog-friendly. The breakfasts are plentiful and tasty. Dinner is served five nights a week at Woodhaven, and it's well worth eating there: lots of tasty food!
We had bonfires in the evenings and roasted marshmallows.
We will return to Woodhaven again and again.

My wife and I travelled to Woodhaven in a rainstorm. Tired and hungry we were welcomed at the front door by David and Michael and their two dogs Sonny and Bailey.
It honestly felt like we were just coming "home" from a hard days work.
I admit we were spoiled being the only couple there that weekend, but a wonderful time nonetheless. Privacy was there if you wanted it, but you were welcome anywhere at any time with a friendly smile and kind words. Our own dog Jasper made fast friends with everyone and especially Bailey, the rambunctious 14 month old black Lab. Even Jasper had a GREAT time.
We would recommend this lovely place on earth to anyone and everyone, but especially to those who are animal lovers and nature lovers. We have decided to make Woodhaven a yearly trip for us two Moms that just need to reconnect and find each other again!
You will not regret a visit to Woodhaven!

This is a beautiful home full of love that you can share with the people inside it. The scenery is exquisite, the food is yummy, the hot tubs are soothing, the bedrooms are cozy, the dogs have lots of fun, and the hosts go out of their way to make everyone feel at home.

I can hardly wait to go back with my kids someday.

If you're looking for a great place to take your kids and enjoy all the benefits of a lovely B&B, Woodhaven is it! Before the birth of our daughter, we were regular B&Bers, but, with a little one in tow, we hadn't felt comfortable -- or, more often, weren't allowed -- to encroach upon the 'adult-only' domain of most B&Bs. Then we discovered Woodhaven -- a picturesque retreat on Caribbean-like Sandy Lake in the heart of the Kawarthas. Woodhaven offers several family SUITES -- i.e., adjoining space for parents and kids, all with private bathrooms and some with private deck and hot tub too! As a bonus, the suites are very reasonably priced; you pay a flat rate rather than a room or per person rate.
In addition to the family-friendly room configuration, you'll find a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere thanks to owners David and Michael. We booked the establishment out with four couples -- and our collective brood of eight kids, ranging from one to ten years old (plus one Standard Poodle!). The little ones had free reign of the premises -- and took full advantage of it. Meals took place with everyone seated at a long pine table in the dining room, with picture windows overlooking the lake. Kids and adults alike thoroughly enjoyed the weekend, especially the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. We've unanimously agreed to make Woodhaven an annual event. I would heartily recommend it to anyont looking for a fun family get-away that still offers the benefits of an intimate B&B experience.
