“What a way to relax”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2012

This was my first experience on the beach in Ecuador. Having a cabin on the beach, hearing pounding waves and enjoying the sea breeze was fantastic. The property is a great place to go to relax and enjoy a quite beach. It's not fancy but it's clean and the staff is fantanstic. You can have your meals on the veranda at the beach and can ask for most anything and it won't cost an arm and a leg. We walked the beach to the North to beach side restaurants when we didn't want to eat at the cabanas. Another place in Ecuador that we return to for another visit; swinging and napping in the hammocks in front of the cabin was great!

Room Tip: Pick a cabin on the beach

This slice of paradise is located just close enough to civilization to be convenient and just far enough away to be romantic. The cabins are comfortable and very little gets better than falling asleep to the waves and breeze just feet away.

The place is a series of cabanas of varying sizes, some immediately on the beach and others a little set back. the entire place is laid-back, as beach cabanas would be. They are clean and comfortable. We had 2 cabanas, one right on the beach with A/C with 2 beds. The other was more like a camp cabin with 2 rooms, accommodating 6. It had a fan and was definitely more rustic. The owner Eric spoke English well and was very helpful, including arranging a fishing expedition for 3 of us, a lot of fun and fish in an open boat. It is quiet, especially compared to the beaches farther north (like Atacames). The food in the hotel was fine, not spectacular, but adequate. We went to the town for meals besides breakfast, even though meals were available. The resort is on the south end of Same Beach.

Room Tip: Ask for beachfront.

If you need to get away from your job in Quito Cabañas Isla del Sol is perhaps the best place to go considering distance, quality and price. I personally prefer Manabí's beaches like Los Frailes, Puerto Lopez, or Puerto Cayo, but if you only have the weekend to get away then Esmeraldas offers the closest beaches to Quito.

Having many options in the Esmeraldas province I personally love Same's beach and specifically Cabañas Isla del Sol as it guarantees that you will relax. If you stay in Atacames for example, you may not be able to relax as music is blaring all day on the beach, and the streets are crowded with people on "Party Mode", and it will be too much chaos. Islas del Sol is quiet, peaceful, and all you hear is the sound of the waves.

Of course, this hotel is aimed for travelers who have their own transportation as it may be too remote for some. Without a car you will have to rely on public transportation (bus or "moto-taxis"), so if you have a car this place is ideal. Your car will be safe as you may park your car right outside your cabin, and at night the hotel is locked down.

The cabins are comfortable, spacious, private, have their own porch, refrigerator, and cable TV. The beds are comfortable and clean too. The cabins with view of the ocean (Which is only a few meters away - see attached pictures) are amazing and probably the best ones. Almost all cabins are made of wood and give the hotel a great atmosphere. The bathrooms are very clean and have amenities like soap and towels with the hotel's logo. Unlike other places I've stayed in the ecuadorian coast, these bathrooms didn't creep me out.

The service is great as the manager speaks a good and comprehensible english (Which came in handy for the people I was traveling with). Apparently he's lived in the US for some time. He's very friendly, open, and is always going out of his way to get you what you need. Something I thought was great is that he was always smiling.

The hotel has all sorts of goodies that can help make your stay even more pleasant. You can borrow volleyballs, swimming boards, and you also have a grill in case you want to have a cookout. The hotel also has a swimming pool which we didn't use as we had the Pacific Ocean available. The menu includes all sorts of ecuadorian coastal dishes which are great to enjoy .

I first went here in March 2011 and had to return, so I did in July. Both stays were great, and is a place I will definitely return to.

We spent about a week here, It was by far the hi-lite of our trip. The staff is VERY accomadating and so pleasent.. The manager and owner is Eric, and he speaks english. which is very helpful for someone who has limited high school spanish. The building we stayed in was #201, it had airconditioning and a refrigerator. You could hear the ocean that was just steps from the door. What a great place to stay, I wish I was back there now.

We travel to Ecuador - once a year an this is a MUST STOP / STAY in Same near Atacames. Simply the best service and facilities, all in front of the beach. Ideal place for a good relaxing holiday not to mention the friendly people and the fresh food.
What else can we ask for?
Look forward to staying with you next year !!!

What an amazing place to go and relax! During our 2 1/2 week stay in Ecuador this was the most laid back, revitalizing portion. It's right on the beach and only a short trip to the larger city. The rooms were very clean. All of the staff were very helpful and accommodating. Would love to go back one day.
