“THIEVING MAID!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

Me and a friend went to the H10 for 10 nights in October of this year. We saved all year for our dream holiday and found that the food was cold, repetitive and boring. We were told there was themed nights but the Chinese evening was chinese potatoes and rice, appetising.. or not! The pool was freezing and sometimes looked dirty. There was one hostess who was only nice to you if you bought champagne and expensive wines, the rest of the staff were pleasant, and if you have any issues ask for Beatriz Picon, she's lovely and speaks good English.

Close to Puerto Banus so if you get bored of the repetitive food at dinner time, its a lovely place to be. Good atmosphere, amazing yachts and cars and just generally a safe and friendly place to be. But be prepared to pay high prices for that!

We had 3 days of our holiday left and then we caught the cleaner rummaging her way through my handbag, purse and suitcase. Once questionned she became angry, didnt speak a word of English apparently, was extremely unprofessional and stormed out. We then found money had been taken from my friends purse and it was left unzipped. We contacted Beatriz who gave us complimentary cocktails and a free safe for the remainder of our stay. For 10 nights, we would have been charged 40 Euros just for the use of the safe, disgusting!! Especially when we were told it would probably be 5-10 Euros.

We were looking forward to breakfast after seeing the reviews, but its not exciting. Same thing served day in day out and it was luke warm. The bacon was foul and the sausages tasted like raw slop. Although, at dinner time, the salad was spot on, but everything was cold and there was no structure to the layout. All fish dishes and it was overall bland and tedious.

I would never come here again, ever. Theiving staff, boring food, a freezing pool and expensive drinks. Horrible, horrible hotel.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

My Brother and myself stayed at this Hotel from the 15th - 22nd October. We are both golfers and this is the third trip that we have made although the first to Spain. On behalf of my brother and myself I can safely say that we had a very good time and I will summarise below all the aspects of our holiday both many positive and some negative.

Arrival at the airport - Hire Car. Get your luggage quick as the q’s can be quite long if getting a hire car. Especially Goldcar as they are obviously one of the cheapest. We used Eurocar and even though there was only 2 people in front of us it still took a 20 minute wait to get served. Just be patient.

Hotel Location - The Hotel is a good 10 -15 minute walk to the centre of Puerto Banus via the Subway which is extremely well lit and not a busker or street dweller in sight. Plus there are cameras at each end so leave the drains alone!!!. Not in the least bit intimidating.

Hotel Checking In - Reception are not the best in my opinion although I expect them to ask for my credit card at an early opportunity. Not very pleasant to deal with. Gave it a wide berth after the initial booking and that way they didn’t spoil our holiday. They have been let off lightly here!!!!

Hotel Room - Don’t go by the pictures if booking a standard room. The standard room is in the old block and is ok only. It is 15e extra per day for a standard room in the refurbished block that they have renamed Superior rooms. The whole décor is outdated and when you wait for the lift the walls remind me of a gents urinal. That said, we were here for golf only and the room met our needs. Don’t book a standard room if you are after a romantic stay . In addition, the Hotel does not provide an iron to borrow although will charge an exhorbitant fee for laundry. Had to spend 20 euros for an iron as the baggage handlers played rugby with my luggage before putting it on the carousel. Shower and bathroom was fine although I did have to ask for some towels. Maids were very prompt cleaning the room when they realised that we would be out until late afternoon each day.

Pool - Despite previous reviews I personally didn’t find the pool ‘freezing’ and was quite comfortable swimming in the water along with other like- minded people. In fact we found it quite refreshing and my brother and myself were quite happy to paddle about for 20 minutes at a time. Maybe the heating system wasnt working for those who have previously complained about the temperature.

Breakfast. Good selection and typically European. No problems finding a table and service for coffee was pretty prompt throughout our stay. Bacon is bacon when overseas and the scrambled eggs will always be on the soggy side of fully cooked!!! Plus there are some interesting sausages to be had. The yoghurt was nice as was the colder selections on offer. Different types of fruit juices so overall, a selection to cater for pretty much everyone.

Gym – Like so many other hotels I have been to, there is no point advertising a gym where everything looks clean and tidy yet when you go to use the machine it doesn’t work. So disappointing and also frustrating. Treadmills didn’t work, x-trainer didn’t work. If you like to jog then it may be worth jogging down to the beach area and running along the front.

Casino. Be prepared to show Driving Licence / Passport to allow access. Games of texas hold em are nightly although we went to the roulette cashpoint for a few minutes each evening for one bet only!!!!

Restaurants - we went to a selection of restaurants based on the Trip Advisor listing and below is our opinion of each one we visited.

IKNI Banus – 7/10 8 cse Tapas. Main - Duck. A nice restaurant with the waiter having many tales to tell.

Khans – Tasty but needed the keema Nan to fill us up. Watch your bill !!

La Moraga – 1/10 Rip off. Starter was for 4 but really only for 2. Main course supposed to be T- Bone shared but a sirloin was given between 2. Really fatty and not up to standard. Poor service. I would not recommend this even if a meal was given to me for free. And I don’t care what previous reviews say, it was dreadful.

La Sala. Excellent menu, good choice. Nice starters of Tuna and duck spring rolls. Rib eye main was excellent. Atmosphere really good with entertainment and a good selection of clientele. Singing was very good standard and thoroughly recommend it.

Nagar – Great Thai food and went there based on previous review. Had a cracking cocktail to start and then had a lovely starter and main meal that was probably the best Thai food I had tasted without actually ever being to Thailand! Thoroughly recommended.

La Sala – Have reviewed it twice to ensure that the first wasnt a one-off. Class place, class food, class atmosphere. Live singing of new and old songs. Excellent clientele base. Food extremely good and went there once early on and again on the last night. Definitely recommended for a visit and only a short walk from the Hotel. There is a club attached but didn’t go there so other reviews may have mentioned this venue.

Bars in Puerto Banus - It was our aim to ensure that we werent ripped off by the beer and spirits prices and we were pleasantly surprised with some of the deals that were on offer at some places.

In my opinion beer prices were very reasonable. Old Joys Piano Bar was a great place to visit with 241 from 6.30 - 9.30 pm. In fact we found it the best place to be and had a couple of great nights dancing and singing to well known tunes. Also in most of the bars we went to the prices were comparable to the UK. Patricks 19th is also a nice pub that always provided a typically Spanish polite welcome. Nothing too much for the barman even when he was in an extremely difficult position with one customer blocking the male toilet. He just got on with what he had to do which was pretty admirable. Portside was also ok although slightly more expensive. News Cafe was good to visit although better for the younger clientele. We did enjoy standing on the balcony upstairs watching the World pass by below. Sinatra's was nothing special and had a lack of atmosphere about it. Maybe we caught it on a bad night.

Granted, after a certain time a different drinks menu is displayed so prepare to use earlier opportunities to fully enjoy the evening. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised by the beer prices based on earlier reviews and although we did pay 11e in some of the bars, this was towards the end of the night after we had taken advantage of earlier cheaper prices. End of the night being 4.30am for us well travelled 40 and 50 somethings!!!

Golf. If youre not a golfer then miss this next bit.

May have just been us but some courses were really difficult to find. No signs and had to use ‘the force’ to find one or two of them. Cabofino was particularly difficult. Out of 10 these are what we thought the courses were worth.

Cabofino – 6/10. Tough tight course that was quite nice. Clubhouse and facilities pretty poor and not what we are used to in other countries or the UK.

El Chaparal – 7/10. Another nice course with different surroundings to Cabofino although not that far apart. A lot better facilities that made the difference.

La Quinta – 8/10. Best of the courses we played. 3 x 9 hole courses and we played B / C which is what I wanted to play beforehand. Some really challenging holes with very good facilities.

Santa Clara – 6/10. On a par with Cabofino with some wide fairways that are alongside adjacent holes making drives somewhat easier. Facilities were ok.

Los Arqueros – 7/10. Really nice ‘Seve’ course that is extremely tight and challenging. Some really nice holes and drives that had to be thought about before taking the shot. Greens were nice and the facilities were also good.

We also booked to play at Lauro golf course although it was over an hours drive away and because we were somewhat ‘tired’ on the Saturday morning we decided to have a day off. It’s a shame really as there are about 30 courses within a 15 mile radius of Puerto Banus.

Overall my brother and myself had an 8/10 holiday and we would definitely return to Puerto Banus again after we have been to a couple of other places that we have to tick off. We would also stay at this Hotel although the staff and more importantly the management, have to pay attention to detail that makes all the difference to ensure that an 8/10 holiday goes to a 9/10.

Room Tip: If a couple then pay the extra 15e per day for a superior room or more if you want a suite plus use...

The pros: great lobby; nice pool area; busy bar area; modern looking room with nice balcony; good food; great massaging waterfall in pool; close to Porto Banus, Gibraltar, Morocco. The cons: hard bed that gave me a sore back every morning; fitness equipment was old and rusty; bar service very slow; internet was usable only in lobby and not in room; heard cars go by all night from highway.

Stayed for two nights with my husband in October '12 in a superior room. Our visit to Spain was a mix of business and pleasure, and we arrived by car from Malaga airport. The hotel was easy to find, as well as parking right outside the entrance. Although there was no queue, check in took 15 minutes! Imagine if there had been a queue...It would have taken hours to check in. 15 mins is not acceptable.
The room was on the fourth floor, far from the main elevator - 104 normal steps to be accurate. If this is important to you, remember this when you book a room. The room itself was good sized and plenty of space, nice and tidy, and with a balcony. Exept from the distance to the elevator, we were happy with the room, and larger than we expected it to be.
Breakfast was also good, and lots of choices.
The pool area is not very big, and it must be cramped in high season. I would never stay here during the summer months! In October it was just perfect, and easy to get sunbeds (but not beds in the sun-they were taken)
Depending on what kind of hotel you like, we found Andalucia Plaza to suit our needs this weekend, but we would not stay there again if we wanted a relaxing/romantic stay, or even with kids.

Great hospitality and service from staff with a smile always big rooms and good value for the money. The only missing point is that its long walk to the rooms from the elevators and could be better signed where to find easier access to pool and lobby

This hotel offers excellent value, the Hotel has been around for a while and the rooms are a little bit tired it still is a good place to stay. Excellent swimming pools and well laid out. Breakfast is an experience as so many people seem to converge at the same time. Location is perfect as you have a nice walk to the port.

The hotel was taken over by a conference for half the holiday, so if you like sitting in your room as there no room in reception or on terrace cause,as the conference people took completely over, we found this off putting. Some of the staff need customer training ESP the front of house staff very rude and blunt. The hotel is right next door to a main road, bit like staying in a travel inn next to the M5, so you can't leave your patio door open. Food is ok good choice every evening, breakfast was ok apart from the conference quests in a rush to get what they want, and sitting with there lap tops on the dinner table, or there mobile phones ringing. Can't say I'll be coming back here again.
