My husband son and I spent a very pleasant 2 nights at the Auberge recently and we were very well looked after. The owners were very welcoming and made us feel at home. On one evening we eat at the Auberge and the food was excellent as was the breakfast. The views on a clear day are fantastic of the Pyrenees, in our case snow covered Pyrenees. We hope to be able to visit again.

We have recently spent a week staying with Dave and Sylvia at the Auberge du Balestie and had an absolutely superb holiday. Our party included three elderly family members who found the ground floor rooms perfect for their needs, particularly the spacious disabled room. Upstairs we enjoyed the gorgeous view which stretches away to the Pyrenees. The rooms are simply furnished, very clean and comfortable and with power showers. It was an ideal location for exploring the Mirepoix area; we also enjoyed trips to Carcassonne and Andorra and to some of the charming villages in the surrounding area (don't miss Camon which is reputed to be one of the prettiest villages in France). Dave recommended the Prehistoric Park near Tarascon which we all enjoyed - a great way of experiencing the famous cave paintings for those who would struggle physically with a trip to the real thing. Mirepoix itself is a mediaeval gem with a beautiful central square and a good selection of cafes and restaurants. We ate at the Auberge on three evenings and can heartily recommend the local speciality of cassoulet. Dave and Sylvia were extremely friendly and helpful (and we also enjoyed meeting the family dog, Archie). We will definitely return.

A group of us (12 cyclists) stayed here at the end of September. David and his wife were very welcoming and even opened the swimming pool for our sweaty gang.
Lovely rooms and it is set in great surroundings!
The dinner we were served was fab and they stock some great local wines worth tasting!
Can only recommend!

We spent 2 nights at the auberge. It was completely full on both evenings. The weather was excellent, which allowed us to experience the fantastic views of the mountains. Absolutely clear night skies with no light pollution showed the stars to their best. The surrounding fields of sunflowers were nearing their end.

We had a comfortable twin room on the ground floor, but we found the noise of the flat feet in the room upstairs a bit of a distraction. The room and facilities were clean and adequate.

Our hosts, Dave and Sylvia, were very welcoming and informative about the surrounding area. We had 2 long walks into the hills, as well as exploring nearby Mirepoix which is steeped in history.

Breakfast was typically French. I hadn't seen the notice advising English breakfast to be ordered the evening before, so on the first morning I drooled over the adjoining table as his breakfast smelled delicious. I did have the English on the second morning, and it was every bit as good as I had hoped.

As we were attending our friend's wedding anniversary reception in the village, we did not take the evening meals, but the menu posted outside the dining room was very inviting.

Our accommodation had been arranged locally by our friend, so we had not been aware of the location before. Excellent choice by him. We will certainly be returning.

My mother and I stayed there for two nights. The twin room was roomy, the beds/pillows and linen of good quality and clean, the bathroom/toilet in very good condition. The surroundings are stunning, with view on the actual Pyrenees and possibilities of hiking. It is located a short drive from Mirepoix, a medieval city looking authentic. Prices are extremely reasonable for the room but also for breakfast. You can also dine there which we did and the food was perfect (we are both French so are rather picky with food but loved it!) .
A plus for English speaker, the owner is English so speaks the language (as well as fluent French) and seems to always be present to help out.
Overall, a great stay and I would definitely recommend this Auberge to anyone looking for a place to stay in the surroundings of Mirepoix.

Looking for something different as an overnight stopover near Mirepoix we stumbled on the Auberge du Balestie here on TA. It fitted our bill perfectly and we had a delightful stay on August 10th. I can only echo the comments in the other reviews and add that although I had not forewarned that I was a vegetarian, the wonderful hosts came up trumps with a lovely meal for me. Surrounded by farmland and fields of sunflowers with views to the mountains it is a great place to stay and enjoy. Forget the hotel chains, this is where you want to stay!

Having read reviews on TripAdviser, I booked one night at Auberge du Balestie earlier this month. I was on my way to Foix and Tarascon sur Ariege and the hotel was convenient for my trip from Carcassonne airport.

What can I say! This hotel is superb. The bedroom was sparkling clean, the restaurant served excellent food, at affordable prices and the staff (in the main David, the proprietor) excellent.

Absolutely great place.
