I found Naladhu by chance when doing some major internet research on where to stay in the Maldives. We knew we wanted to go to the Maldives for our honeymoon but with so many resorts and places to choose from, it became a bit of an experience!

What I first thought when coming across the Tripadvisor reviews of Naladhu was how it was all positive! You don't often get that with reviews. Then one of the telling comments made was that it was exactly like the website pictures. Now you can't go wrong with that. If you liked the website and what they have to offer, then seriously it's good to go!

We were not disappointed! I wont add to all the other reviews as they pretty much sum up everything Naladhu is. We spent 4 nights and 4 days here for our honeymoon and we have no regrets. The place is absolutely beautiful, serene, quiet and relaxing. To top it off, you are never left wanting for good service, good food and all your needs being met!

We were also lucky enough to be there while a wine dinner was being hosted by a wine producer from Italy and to witness the annular solar eclipse on 15 Jan 2010. The little things that made our honeymoon more memorable.

Naladhu guests have the benefit of using the Anantara resorts nearby - accessible by bridge (Veli) and accessible by boat (Dhigu). But Naladhu is so perfect, you would not want to leave though watching the sunset at Dhigu is pretty awesome! Also loads of activities that the resort can organise - diving, snorkelling, boat rides ... you won't get bored ! Unless you want to do nothing, then it's also perfect for lazing on the beach, soaking up the rays and just letting time pass slowly by.

Our timeless moments and precious memories included -
- Ocean House No 1 : its the first ocean house that also is near the bridge that links the resort to sister resort of Anantara Veli. It's perfect as it is an end villa with only one 'neighbour' but you have total privacy and it honestly felt like we were in our own home by the beach! I would recommend asking for Ocean House No 1! The ocean houses are nicer as they feel more private than the beach houses. You have a beach cabana on the beach side of the island so you don't miss out. Though we spent a lot of time just on the deck of the ocean house as it was perfect. If you don't like the sound of waves or the sea, then choose a beach villa. Well stocked fridge, great coffee machine, wine fridge, great cookies, beautiful rooms and bath area with your own pool .. I can't tell you how every little detail has been thought of to make one's stay perfect. They even have glorious nights where you can see every single star twinkle in the sky!

- Food : Sumptuously no matter where you dined on the resort or at the sister resorts. Portions are huge, we never felt hungry and in fact, we felt so full a lot of the time! And the authenticity .. the chicken congee I had on a few mornings felt like it was something my mum had cooked! Plenty of variety to suit everyone's taste buds and desires. Price of meals was also very reasonable - nothing more than at a standard hotel and there is no need to go for full board (lunch and dinner). Breakfast is included in your hotel rate and you can eat to your heart's content!

- Service : We were blown away by the level of service at Naladhu. Chris and Elmine who run the resort were fantastic and we were really touched by the warmth of the team. It must be something about the Maldivian/island air ! The dining staff even remembered what sauces we liked with our meals and that was a little personal touch that made the experience special. To top it all off, our house master, Bibin. Amazing, fantastic, friendly and always there but never there ! We loved how we had the privacy and serenity of the resort but yet we knew all our needs were being met. We came home after dining out on two separate evenings to find a romantic candlelight bath having been drawn for us and the next night, our bedroom filled with petals and candlelights ! Perfect little touches for a honeymooning couple.

One hiccup was our speedboat had a glitch when we left the resort but thanks to Elmine and her team we were whisked into another boat within 20 mins and a phone call to let us know what was going on. It was ery assuring when one is out in the Indian Ocean to know that the resort was still looking after us! The team really know how to take care of you and make sure that you have a phemonemal experience.

So in short, don't even hesitate ... if you are going to the Maldives, Naladhu is the place to be!

We staid in Naladhu for 5 nights during our honeymoon. It took me 4 months to write a review because I was in search for words that can appropriately describe the beauty and the luxury of this place. What can I say: pure perfection. There are not enough colors in any camera to capture the beauty; there are not enough words in any vocabulary to describe the ingenious architecture of these villas, the attention to every detail from the time you arrive in the island until your departure. The food....oh the food....it was out of this world... for breakfast, just order the benedict eggs!!! For dinner, leave it up to the chef and his daily menu...every day a different menu, every dinner a different experience to remember! We were looking for the perfect place to spend our honeymoon and we honestly couldn't ask for more. I wish we can go back one day. If you have the money, don't hesitate, it worth every penny!

I stayed at the Naladhu in November and it was the most amazing, unbelievable experience of my life. Although very expensive it was worth every single cent.

Like everyone else we were searching for the perfect Maldives island resort and were lucky to find it in Naladhu. Since we were celebrating our silver wedding anniversary and my 50th birthday we were looking for a special place that we’d always remember. We originally wanted to go to Soneva Fushi after reading about it in Conde Naste but were concerned by some mixed TA reviews so started looking for other 5 star resorts. When I first read about Naladhu it sounded amazing and I was surprised when the quote was cheaper than SF. On checking we realized that we were benefitting from the “Early Bird Special” one of the promotional rates.

We stayed at Naladhu for 9 nights (10 days) in August 2009 and loved every minute of it. Everything about it made our stay comfortable, enjoyable and totally relaxing.
We had Ocean House number 12, a beautiful location, just steps from the beach but with complete privacy. The Ocean Houses are on the sunrise side of the island overlooking the open ocean with the sound of crashing waves lulling you to sleep every night. Because it was so private we left the curtains open at night so could watch the sunrise without even getting out of bed!
The houses are simply amazing and I’m so glad we chose an Ocean House; the Beach Houses just don’t have the privacy or the views. Even though we’d been looking at the website and every photo we could find we were still blown away when we got there. It really is a home away from home. The houses are spacious, well fitted and with every detail thought out e.g the dressing area has a dressing table with a mirror, good lighting and even a jewellery box! The private pool is so wonderful; nice & warm, perfectly clean without any chlorine smell and big enough to swim in. Unlike most of the photos I’d seen our deck had a deck rail that did interrupt our infinity view from the pool, but we enjoyed standing leaning on the deck rail to look out over the ocean. I didn’t think I’d like the swinging day bed on the covered patio but have to confess I loved it, a great place to lounge, read & nap. The interior furnishings are all “antique” style and the (US) king size bed is very comfortable. The bathroom is also amazing & we particularly loved the outdoor waterfall shower.

Our housemaster Ashraf gave us exemplary service without being in any way pushy. He was always available (just press the button on the phone) and would do anything we wanted but mostly left us to ourselves (our preference). We never felt our privacy was in any way invaded and never felt any selling. The house was cleaned and restocked when we were at breakfast and refreshed in the evening when we were at dinner. All the staff were friendly and professional, following the example set and maintained by Elmine & Chris, the couple who manage the island and make sure that your stay is perfect. The Naladhu staff live on Velli, so you often see them walking over the bridge & always get a friendly greeting.

Breakfast at the Living Room was great. Most mornings we sat at a table on the beach overlooking the lagoon. A fresh fruit plate and basket of pastries was automatically served (the pastries are nice but seem mass produced) along with tea/coffee and really good freshly squeezed fruit juice. You can order as much as you want from the a la carte menu & over the 10 days we tried pretty much everything. We particularly loved the Greek yogurt and generally shared it as a starter.

We tried a couple of the restaurants on the other islands; 73 degrees on Veli for their Maldivian night and Fudan on Dighu both OK but the 2 best restaurants were Baan Huraa, the Thai restaurant on the bridge between Naladhu and Veli , and the Living Room on Naladhu. As another recent reviewer mentioned the Living Room has a new Chef, a nice Irish guy named Ken who’s just moved there with his family. Ken has started to put some daily specials onto the Living Room menu and one day at breakfast he told us he was going to cook something special that evening. Alongside the regular menu he had a menu of specials where you could choose 2 or 3 courses or have a tasting of everything. We had his tasting menu and it was outstanding, as good as a top restaurant and great value. He’s still settling in (he’d only been there 3 weeks when we were there) so I anticipate that the already good Living Room food will improve & the menu will get more variety.

There are a lot of things included on Naladhu that the websites don’t tell you about but which enhance the stay. For example very day around 5.30pm your housemaster will bring you a refreshing cold drink and some canapés.
Some other things we liked:

Plentiful bottles of Evian in the house refreshed twice daily. The gym also has bottles of Evian & if you’re laying on a beach lounger someone will often bring you a couple of cold bottles.

Large fruit basket, cookie jar and jar of whole nuts in the house refreshed daily. With the big breakfast & the snacks we didn’t need lunch.

High quality tea & coffee-there’s 6 different types of loose tea, I tried several & they were great. There’s also a Lavazza espresso “pod” style coffee maker with a selection of coffee

The houses have lots of useful extras; raincoats & umbrellas, torch/flashlight, beach bag, sun hat, shawl, lifejackets

Good quality snorkel gear available from the gym. We had our own masks & snorkels but borrowed fins/flippers.

Single and double kayaks scattered around the island, just pick one and go! Try kayaking out to the small uninhabited island (there are toilets & showers there) and snorkel the reef from there.

If you want to go to Dighu (the best place to see the sunset is from around the Aqua bar on Dighu) boat transfer is provided. You just have to ask & they send a boat to take you.

We were very sad to leave Naladhu and had a fantastic memorable holiday.

Well, had very high expectations for Naladhu after our Travel Consultant's rave reviews and reading all the great write ups here...but every single expectation was met.
The island, beautiful, perfect
The Ocean House, amazing, perfect, simple relaxing perfection...everything provided for your comfort and pleasure, everything worked - the view to the sea, the sound of the ocean, the huge comfy bed, the amazing pool ( big enough to swim 5 strokes!), the huge deck with shade and sun in equal measure, the gorgeous bathroom ( try out the bath, its huge and amazing to look out at the sea)...and total privacy so you can enjoy it all in whatever state you want!..the music system with ipod provided in case you haven't brought one..plenty of drinking water provided freely
The House Master, Mr Mashtouq, and his team took care of every need, friendly and helpful but not in your face, perfect service
The restaurant was fab - you might see some slightly negative remarks on here about the food but please don't be put off - the new chef Ken was excellent and he and his team provided great food for us ( we are vegetarian ) with some amazing Paneer, fab risotto and, on one night when we craved "junk" food, a wonderful home made burger and fries..
We also visited some restaurants on the other islands and can recommend the Thai restaurant Baan Huraa, and the Italian restaurant on Dhigu.
As others have said, snorkelling equipment and canoes provided, but we did none of this , just relaxed, read, lolled about and enjoyed the beautiful surroundings.
If you are looking for a relaxing peaceful break in beautiful surroundings where every attention to detail is taken care of, you can't beat Naladhu..amd busy saving up every penny to try to get back next year!!

This is the second part of my review, as we started out at the Anantara Veli and upgraded to Naladu

Naladu Days

So as you will recall from my review of Anatara Veli we had a wonderful time there and had upgraded for 2 days to Naladu.

My girlfriend had no idea that we were going to do this, nor did she have any idea that I was going to propose to her.

I had sneakily moved our bags to the Naladu while she ate by the pool and I also convinced her that the concierge had arranged for us to take a short tour of the Naladu property.

So there we were walking hand and hand on the over water bridge to our new beach house. I purposefully got lost in order to convince my girlfriend that I had never been to the island before. In truth I had gotten up early twice and Ahmed (from Veli) showed me the two different types of houses. You can choose from a Beach house or a Ocean view house. Both houses are amazing but the Ocean view houses have the better view and each of the ocean view houses have access to a private beach bungalow/veranda thingy so you really get the best of both worlds with the ocean view house.

We entered the house and immediately noticed that the porter hadn't put everything in the closet; he had accidentally left two items out. Luckily for me the first thing my girlfriend was drawn to was the guest book located on the counter to the right; everyone signs it and they write little stories about their stays and draw pictures etc. The counter area that this book was located on had a fridge, 2 coffee makers, a toaster, and a wine fridge under it. The room to the left had a large walk in closet and a vanity bureau with a mirror. If you continued further left you came to the bathroom which had two nice sinks, a couch, a beautiful sunken tub already filled with rose petals, a room with the toliet, a shower sauna, and a huge infinity pool. There was another door in the area between the two sinks that led to another pool area with stone steps leading up to a freaking water fall shower. Talk about decadent.

Anyhow, back to the subterfuge, I realized that if my girlfriend turned around she would see our two bags and then the jig would be up. Quickly thinking I ran into the bedroom which was directly in front of the entry area. I started screaming, "Oh my god sweetie you've got to see this!" She exclaimed, "I'm reading this book, it's really cute" to which I replied, "Honey you have got to come here right now!" Annoyed she ran into the room, not noticing our bags and I exclaimed, "Look at this! They have a Bose sound system!" Now I could have mentioned the California size king bed or the 52 inch plasma but like a fool I mention the Bose sound system. She took one look at me and said, "You're an Idiot" I then said, "But honey it's Bose!!! and just look at this view!" Out the sliding doors past the sofa bed swing (Thats right it's not just a swing, it's a sofa swing!) was a deck with a amazing view of crashing waves. To the left was a gazebo with a table four chairs, a complex barbeque grill. Behind the gazebo area was the aforementioned infinity pool and a walk way area that connected the back yard to the bathtub/couch area. My girlfriend just kind of gasped when she saw the pool and asked "Is this pool a shared pool?" "I think each house has one sweetie", I replied. As we made our way into the bathroom she started murmuring to herself, "This is too [censored] much". She took one look at all of the L'Occitane product that the place is stocked with and turned to me and said, "You know, this is the reason that the world is in the financial crisis it is in.......this kind of wanton spending" I can't believe that I kept a straight face as I said, "You know your right.......just look at this". At this point I turned on the water fall shower on and I could tell she was really annoyed, not really because of the state of the economy of the world but because she was not going to get to use the very cool waterfall shower. "Ugh" she responded and I said "Lets get out of here, it really is a too richy rich"

As we walked back out the way we came in with me leading I said, "You know what's crazy?" "What she asked?" "Well what's crazy is that THIS IS OUR HOUSE!" I turned dramatically towards her as I said the "This is Our House" portion, and she was utterly stunned. "What? she stammered" And I replied again this time with a grand gesture of opening the closet that housed all of our stuff "This is Our House!" She had such a look of shock on her face, but quickly came to and screamed "How much did you pay for this?" "I started laughing at her and said I paid no where near $1700 a night and in fact I'd been planning this for some time. I admitted that I'd learned about the upgrade through Trip Advisor and I told her about my morning journeys to see the place etc. My girlfriend was so happy and embarrassed at the same time it was something I'll never forget; usually she considers herself quite the operative and is quite observant. But the biggest surprise was yet to happen.

A couple of things that I just have to mention. Naladu has a very lovely pool and the food prices are almost the same as the other restaurants on Veli and Dighu. You can take out kayaks for free and the management for this island are a lovely couple who really are sticklers for perfection. I noticed the husband part of the management duo pulling out some shrubbery that looked out of place; that kind of commitment to detail is reflected in all of the Anantara properties we visited and was just as apparent here.

I should also mention that the room comes with a butler; our's was named Hassan, and he was awesome. He was just present enough but not at all annoying or overbearing. Hassan along with Ahmed helped me plan my dinner by design and he helped me smuggle my engagement ring back into the room. I had originally planned to do a dinner by design on our deck but the day of the dinner Hassan pulled me aside before I got on my dive boat and said it was going to be very windy. He suggested that we do the dinner at the Living Room restaurant and that they would shut down half the restaurant for us!? Well sure enough they did shut down half of the restaurant and there were rose petals everywhere. Thank god we did it in the restaurant because it was super windy, not rainy, but just windy. There was only one other couple in the restaurant and as luck would have it they were a really sweetie Aussie couple that we'd met snorkeling (Alistar and Allison we still owe you the snorkeling pictures, please write us!). They were on their way back to Australia that very night but they came back to the restaurant to tell us they'd left a little something on our door step.

My plan was to take my girlfriend for a walk after our lovely dinner but it was still quite windy and she insisted that we go back to the house. I think her exact words were, "Are you crazy? I'm not going for a walk in that.......I don't need to die tonight because I got swept out to sea by the hurricane wind monsoon thing going on" (Ever the pragmatist, but that's why I love her) We noticed that the Aussies had left us half a bottle of Johnny Walker Black and some Koala chocolates, so we decided to make some whisky and cokes and sit out on our deck. The wind had calmed down quite a bit and we noticed that there were twenty baby sharks swimming in the water just below our deck. It was amazing! We must have watched them for an hour. I started getting worried that it was getting too late so I told my girlfriend that I was going to freshen up my drink and I went and got the ring. I came out and we watched the sharks for a bit longer and then I asked her to come sit with me on the sofa swing. As she walked towards me I got down on one knee, and the freak out show began. I won't tell you what specifically was said, because really that's our memory, but she was really shocked and fooled again. I will say it started off with her screaming, "Oh god no!", and "Are you drunk?" And ended with lots of kisses and tears of joy.

In the end, the entire vacation and especially Naladu will always be something that we will never forget.

My darling girlfriend became my fiance and she wrote something very cute in our guest book.

You'll have to book the Mirri house on Naladu to find out what she said.
