My husband surprised me on our honeymoon by booking us in for 5 days at Kandooma Holiday Inn and I am forever grateful to him as the experience was amazing!
We were staying at the beachfront villa which in my opinion Was the best option on the island. We had a wonderful balcony overlooking the beach and a fabulous little outdoor lounge area on the ground floor. The room was very well furnished with a beach house feel and a bathroom with outdoor shower.
The facilities at the resort were excellent with a large pool and many complimentary snorkelling excursion options. The snorkelling training session was also very helpful. The only down side was that they had a limited number of snorkels which you has to collect at 9 am otherwise you would not get any. They also saved the really good quality ones for the tours rather than having them available to all.
The buffet breakfast and dinner we had was really yummy but were really expensive. The resort really milks the fact that you can't leave the island for meals thus charging you over $70 at times for a meal. One night we had no option but to have a buffet as all 3 restaurants on the island were serving buffets. The chefs and restaurant staff were extremely friendly advising us every step of the way on what was the best dishes to try.
Another downside was that there weren't many activities after 6pm on the island other than dinner. My husband and i are both night people so we got bored in the evenings and resorted to tiring ourselves out during the day so we could sleep early too.
A must try was one fot the sunset excursions which involved a net being put out on the water for you to ride on while yhe boat sped onwards. It may not sound too exciting but it was incredible. Oddly enough we missed the sunset.
Overall the hotel was amazing and the staff was extremely friendly but it was an extremely expensive trip which could be managed by the resort better. ( i refuse to pay $25-30 for a tiny tube of sunscreen)

My boyfriend and I visited Holiday Inn Kandooma last summer and had the time of our lives.
Although we have traveled a lot and have been to numerous places, this is the one that stole our hearts.
The location is magical and you feel like living in a poster. It is out-of-this-world-beautiful.
The villas are exquisite: the design is minimalistic and amazing, they are spacious and of course spotless clean every day of your stay. The bed is very comfortable, the bathroom with the outdoor shower is hard to describe so I'll just say it's a great experience on its own!
They have more than you can imagine in terms of toiletries but also fresh oranges so you can squeeze them every morning, a selection of cool beverages and hot drinks that you can enjoy on the spot. You do feel like king or queen in such a villa and with no extra charge!
The staff is very friendly but sometimes you get the feeling that they have been instructed to act in a very certain way. They were very helpful at all times and they even left me rose petals and a card on the bed on my birthday.
Food is expensive if you don't go for full board. We only had breakfast included in the deal and it cost us a lot of money to dine. The cheapest you can go is 22$ for a small pizza for one. I did hear though that full board takes that pain away! However, the food is delicious, gourmet no matter which restaurant you choose to dine in.
In Holiday Inn Kandooma you can never be bored. There are so many activities, from snorkeling to scuba, from surfing to deep sea fishing and the list goes on and on. My boyfriend even got the Padi there. The sea world is so full of life and colour and the Indian Ocean is so warm that you can spend hours exploring it without feeling cold.
Kandooma does not have a house reef but that doesn't mean that the sea is not full of interesting creatures. If it's not activities you are after, then relaxation is another thing that the resort offers in style. Go for a massage at the spa center and you will not regret it. You can also relax on a quiet beach and read a book or just enjoy the unbelievable view.
Overall it has been an experience that I've been thinking about almost everyday since I got back. I would go again in heartbeat!

We have just returned from the Maldives and stayed at kandooma for 12 nights, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the island was very pretty. However we booked through a company called Bluebay who booked kuoni and having told them what we wanted from a holiday we were ill advised. We wanted a sandy island we could walk around without shoes as I had been told the Maldives were, unfortunately there was mostly shingle except for the main beach and could not walk around the island as it was rocky in parts, also very close to a local island and their food waste was washed ashore. Although the island had 50% occupancy we had builders next door painting, varnishing and banging so we were not able to relax in the room and the fumes made me ill, we had to pay to upgrade to a water villa to relax. Maybe they could have kept guests and the villas they were renovating apart. We only saw the Kuoni rep once at the airport although she did call to see if we were ok, she was based on another island 5 mins away so no help from her. The Maldives are a lovely place to visit and we had a wonderful time as we try not to let things ruin a holiday, but after paying a lot of money for this special holiday we feel it would be better to have booked flight and island separately . Blue bay also made a big thing about a free VIP lounge at Heathrow that turned out to be service air that anyone can use.

Room Tip: Choose a water villa if your not keen on sharing with the wild life.

This resort is a paradise for all those who are looking for relaxation, breath taking views, adventure, luxurious rooms and good food to add to that. I stayed there for 4 nights, 2 each in overwater villa and beach house. The views from both the rooms were awesome.

They have an amzing infinity pool and the pool bar makes it even more fun. I had taken a snokelling tour to there inhouse reef and I must admit it was amazing.

Go to Holiday Inn kandooma, pamper yourself, relax, enjoy the sun and the views, a perfect vacation. :)

Had our honeymoon in May. It was fantastic! Although it is considered the monsoon season but it didnt rain much during our 5d stay.

Water Villa: Highly recommended to stay @ the water villa! Everything abt the water villa is AMAZING! Do stay in the water villa when you come maldives, even it is for 1 night. It is spacious with 2 outdoor shower, 1 in the toilet with no view, another with sea view! Bathing under the stars with the sound of gentle lapping waves in the backgrd is fabulous! Will never forget tt experience in my life. Not to mention able to snorkle right at our door step. We saw a manta ray and a baby shark at the waters at our water villa :) There is also a hammock to lie above the waters in the villa. A nice security guard from Nepal informed us that we can switch on the light near the sea at our deck at night so fishes will swim by and gather! The fishes are rather big!

Beach House: We stayed @ beach house no. 11 before upgrading to water villa. The beach house was good and spacious but do stay in the water villa when you come maldives. No. 11 is near to main activities area but our sea view is blocked by coconut trees so some downside there. We were given 6 oranges everyday for use with orange press n both beach house and water villa, a nice touch i must say! Wifi is pretty weak in the beach house. You cant hear sound of waves in no. 11 though.

Food: We took the half-board package which includes breakfast and dinner @ the Kandooma Cafe. I love the theme dinners, esp the outdoor ones! The atmosphere was fantastic! Food-wise was pretty average and more "mass-market".

During our breakfast, service staff would come by and ask if we would like to upgrade our dinner to dine @ The Kitchen @ ard US$90+/pax. Highly recommended to upgrade to dine at The Kitchen! The food at The Kitchen is wonderful! Great dining experience with sea view with unlimited flow of alcoholic drinks (aka champagne!!). I could go on so much about the high quality of grilled seafood and steak at The Kitchen. Another highlight of the dinner at The Kitchen is Sharks Feeding! You get to see service staff throwing tuna into the sea to attract the family of sharks near the shore. Tip: There are alot of big hermit crabs at the beach by The Kitchen and you can use them to take part in the crab race =P

Activities: Night fishing is fun where you fish using line instead of rod. They would cook your catch in the way you want (only 1 fish per pax). As we had dinner in our package, we requested them to cook the fish for our lunch the next day instead and they nicely obliged. A point to take note if you are on half-board w/o lunch. We also went dolphin cruise but did not managed to see any dolphin that day. A tip is to book dolphin cruise in the 1st or 2nd day of your trip because if you didnt get to see dolphin, they allow you to go with them again the next day. As we didnt know and were leaving the next day, we did not manage to see any dolphin.

Service: Service is generally good in the resort. We talked to the staff there and found out that they are from many different countries who came to work there as they were attracted to the beauty of Maldives. They are a passionate lot and you can see it through their service!

2 service staff that left a deep impression on me are Nabin & Albert. Nabin is fr Kandooma Cafe and when he came by to ask us on our dinner, we casually commented that there is no vanilla sauce to go with the bread & butter pudding. Without a second word, he went into his kitchen to have some freshly made for us! We were astonished by his great service and friendliness. Thumbs up for that. Albert from front desk is also very helpful to our requests and takes extra effort to assist us in our dolphin cruise and speedboat transfer when he knew we were disappointed not to see any dolphins in the dolphin cruise. We were indeed very lucky to have met such keen and passionate staff which made our stay at Kandooma very memorable!

We would highly-recommend for all to stay at Kandooma!

Room Tip: Stay at water villa! You won't regret it.
