“Excellent hotel with incredible service.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2013

Staying at this hotel was amazing, we stayed in a beach vila with pool facing the sunset which i would definitely recommend. The food as usual was excellent and fresh, Tapasake being our favourite. The service is unbeatable here and thats what makes me return the attentiveness of the staff making sure everything during your stay is perfect really made our stay that more enjoyable. I love the spa here the massages facials and wraps are the best, also the hair salon was very good. This was our second time here since our honeymoon and the hotel has improved ( even though i didn't think this was possible!) there is a lot more to do i.e sports, water sports and the classes which you can take part in at a charge.
The resort itself is one of the best in the maldives, we decided to try a different hotel (which i have reviewed) last year and it could not complete with the One and Only. Overall
Excellent stay with top service would 100% recommend to everyone.

Room Tip: Ask for a sunrise facing room- the beach is better aswell as the view!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2013

Just returned from a 1 week stay at O&O Reethi Rah with my wife and thoroughly enjoyed it.

We stayed in a beach villa with pool on the Grand Beach. The island is large by Maldivian standards and this means that each villa has an enormous amount of space and privacy around it.

The island does not have the barefoot laid back feel of some of the other islands we have visited - being a little bit more dressy especially in the evenings. Tailored shorts and a shirt being insufficient dress for one of the restaurants was a surprise to us (although staff did offer a sarong).

After spending our first week in The Maldives at another island we arrived by seaplane for our second week here. We were greeted warmly on the seaplane jetty with the usual cold towels and drink etc. We arrived at 12.00pm and were told that unfortunately the room would not be ready for an hour so we went straight to the Reethi Beach restaurant for lunch. Whilst having lunch we were told that the room was ready and that lunch was free as the room had not been ready on our arrival. This was a nice gesture.

The villa was great with a big private beach area, good sized plunge pool, beach hammock and large comfortable sunbeds. Inside was very well appointed although the shower room and toilet seemed a little small compared with the overall spacey feel of the main bedroom and bathroom areas. Skipped the complimentary foot washing ceremony offered by our villa host (that stuff is for biblical stories and chiropodists in our book !!)

We had stayed at Reethi Rah last year for 3 nights and were pleased to see that the rusty heavy old bikes provided with each villa have been replaced with much more comfortable and lighter newer models.

During the week enjoyed some fantastic scuba diving from the dive centre. Very good set up all round and run by a great team.

The One Club beach where all of the water sports are located was good but we didn't like having to book ahead to get sun loungers. In a resort of this size and quality there should be enough sunbeds to cater for all guests who wish to visit this beach. Likewise was very disappointed on our final day when my wife and I went to the Reethi Beach at 13.30 and were told by the beach staff that all of the sunbeds were in use and they could not find us anywhere on the beach to settle down. It would have been nice if they had just moved a couple of empty beds from around the swimming pool down to the beach for us - but this was not offered.

The food in all of the restaurants was good quality and decent menu selection. We especially liked the Tapasake Japaneese style restaurant.

In the evenings before dinner it was lovely to watch the sun go down at the Fanditha bar/restaurant and we also had a very good Middle Eastern style meal here one evening.

After dinner we found the main Reethi Bar a pleasant place to listen to the live music and chill out. 2 nights each week a local Maldivian group ('Detuned') performed and they were very good. Other nights the singer/guitarist was not quite as entertaining - but we all have different tastes.

Getting around the island in the day time on the bicycles was easy and fun. In the evenings we preferred to use the golf buggy taxis to take you wherever you wished. It is possible for guests to hire and drive their own golf buggies around the island. On reflection we think this is not the best idea - my wife was nearly knocked off her bike twice by buggies being driven by children who were definitely way too young to be driving despite the resort rules.

On the whole the staff were very friendly and courteous. Contrary to other reports I have read, the senior management were very visible and approachable even to the non-famous and non-uber rich ! Every night whichever bar or restaurant we were in, one or other of the managers would pass by and say hello and check we were ok.

On departure we were taken back to Male Airport on the brand new 56 foot luxury yacht. There were only ourselves and one other couple on the yacht and this was lovely way to finish our Maldivian holiday.

On the whole we enjoyed our stay at Reethi Rah. Yes it is expensive but this is The Maldives and it is still one of the best all round resorts in the islands in our opinion. Would we return ? - Yes but there are a lot of other resorts that we would also like to visit as well.

We recently stayed here for 5 nights and had one of the best resort / hotel experiences of our life. We were there for our honeymoon and had extremely high expectations, not only did One and Only meet them but the resort exceed them. The location, the accommodation and the restaurants were all outstanding. The staff were very friendly and efficient and also extremely hospitable and generous with their time and efforts. The resort is stunning and there is plenty to do - be it scuba diving, tennis, water activities, bike riding, boating - you name it they have it. So you have a choice to either chill on one of the many beaches or get active which is great. If you are looking at which accommodation to book I would highly recommend the over the water villa - you will not be disappointed with it the views are amazing and the villa is so spacious. Regarding restaurants, you need to visit their Japanese restaurant it was my favorite - the food was amazing and the cocktails were just as good!

Thank you again One and Only, we cannot wait to return!

It actually pains me to write this. Like the other reviewers our honeymoon was a fabulous experience, this is a breathtaking hotel and we had a fabulous week. Sadly this was almost destroyed on our final night.

Having booked a yacht transfer to enjoy a moonlit cruise to our flight the staff at the One and Only completely lost the plot which almost ended with us stranded overnight in Male and made the last few hours of our honeymoon extroadinarily stressful.

Our transfer was booked to depart at 21:00 North Male time, which left ample time for a 22:55 flight given the time difference. However one of the guests on our transfer did not arrive until nearly an hour after the alloted departure time.

Instead of allowing the transfer to leave, the One and Only Staff insisted this guest was 'on his way' leaving my wife and I and another couple on the same transfer incandessant with rage as we watched the minutes tick by and the threat of us missing our flight grow ever more real.

Eventually we made it into Male a full hour late and with a mere 45 minutes to spare ahead of departure time, a phone call to the airline on the boat enabled us to persuade them to hold the flight and the last moments of our honeymoon were spent sprinting full tilt through Male Airport in a desperate bid to make our flight home.

We were given no help or assistance by One and Only staff at the airport who seemed completely paralysed in the face of this issue and as such we grabbed our own bags, asking airport security for directions to the various desks and areas and made our flight with mere minutes to spare.

It was a truly awful way to end the vacation, made worse by the realisation the reception staff had failed to pack a smaller item of baggage along with our main luggage as requested, which meant we lost a bag on route.

Why this Hotel does not employ a cut-off time at which point guets not present on an airport transfer are required to make alternative arrangements, I do not know. All I will say is make sure you are on them like Hawks to ensure your transfer leaves on time. If you want to avoid the stress altogether, perhaps choose a hotel that understands the concept that airlines require you to be there at least 90 minutes prior to boarding.

My profile picture has been taken from our water villa at the One and only Reethi Rah. I had to leave a review because, still, after being to the most exclusive and beautiful hotels and resorts in the world the One and Only is still and simply The Best Hotel in The world, nothing can beat this place. The experience we had there is pure perfection. The Maldives, the resort, the service, the villas, the cosmetics, the restaurants, the buggy drivers, the gym, everything is ABSOLUTE PERFECTION. The most stunning and beautiful place in the world.

Just returned from our 7th trip to Reethi Rah.
It really is truly a faultless experience. Nothing is too much trouble for the vast team.

Everything from the restaurant staff, buggy drivers, kids club team, gardeners, concierge and management are there to help and please and make the holiday as relaxing and enjoyable as possible.

It is expensive, but you pay for what you get, and you get the best of everything.

We are looking to book our 8th visit sometime next year and cannot wait to return 'home'.

Absolutely stunning resort. Excellent service. Excellent facilities. Excellent food.My wife and I stayed 3 nights at the Water Villa and 2 at the Beach Villa (with Pool). The bad news is that I can not recommend in all fairness one or the other. The good news is that you can not go wrong with either. The views were splendid in both. We stayed all day (and part of the night) staring at the horizon and we did not get bored one second. We could not actually leave the villas. Had to force ourselves in the morning to get breakfast (the buffet was like no other place we visited before)…and went to the restaurant in some of the evenings. Ok, to be fair, Beach Villa come with a lush tropical garden …and some geckos and mosquitos….but the rooms are well equipped with repellent so did not get bothered. Water villa offered an opportunity to snorkel around the villa and have the doors open for fresh air all day around. Advice: walk or bike to/from restaurants. This is actually a big plus compared to other resorts in the Maldives. The island is of a good size to walk and explore. Second advice: chose one of the villas with a semi private beach. There are many beaches” and some of the smaller ones offer more privacy. As for water villas, the northern part of the island offers access to the lagoon (but may be a bit noisy due to proximity of port) while the southern part is more ocean like.
One little con: Food is expen$$$$$ive so get a good breakfast (included) and save for dinner and drinks. Buffet nights may be a good plan for big eaters. If not, try every resturant. You will not go wrong (in term sof quality) with any of them.

Room Tip: Water Villa if you want the full Maldivian experience Beach Villa with Pool if you want to alternat...
