“Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

We stayed here for 10 days in April 2012. It was our first visit to the Maldives and hopefully wont be the last. I was very concerned that we would be bored after several days but we found that we totally relaxed and accepted that there is no nightlife, (dont even bother going if its nightlife your after), Evenings entertainment consists of eating, then a few cocktails and watching the fish being fed from the jetty. The buffet meals were excellent and i can honestly say we didnt have anything that we didnt like, and I think we are quite fussy, Abdullah was our waiter most evenings and he was so welcoming and friendly. We had a Superior Water Villa (with glass floor which was amazing) stunning although pricey. The free Wi-Fi was very useful as calls back home were expensive so we used Facebook to check in with family especially as we had a tsunami alert on our last day. I learnt to snorkell from the steps leading into the sea from our villa as you cannot visit here without snorkelling, its a must. The whole resort is spotless and they mist the island at intervals during the night to eliminate mosquitos. The spa is probably the best I have experienced, a couples massage is included in the all inclusive deal as is all drinks etc, in fact from the moment we arrived until we left the island we didnt handle money at all. We didnt do any excursions so I cant comment on them, it seemed pointless going on a sunset boat trip when it was clearly visible from the pool bar. The island is just the most beautiful place imaginable, I really couldnt believe the colours. I could go on and on about Lily Beach it really is amazing and I couldnt fault it. Its a long tiring journey to get there (we had a 2hour wait for the seaplane transfer) but well worth it. I wouldnt hesitate to go back as its as near to perfect as your going to get. We chose this resort for its all inclusive package and it was fantastic, several friends have visited other resorts and have been stung on food and drink prices so beware.

Dear S,

We are glad to read your nice review about our Resort. It seems you had wonderful time in your Water Villa and enjoyed the food in our main restaurant, Lily Maa.

We hope that next time you can try some excursions. The Sunset Cruise is very relaxed, you are on the roof of the boat with nice canapé and a bottle of sparkling wine, watching the sunset. Or maybe the snorkeling or the fishing up to you!

Best Regards

This is our third year running at LILY BEACH. the smiling faces that greet you off the seaplane and stay with you for the duration of your holiday makes for a very relaxing experience. With many activities and a good house reef for snorkeling, the days pass very quickly. Pascal (resident manager) is ever present and ensures that the resort runs smoothly. Being able to dine at Tamarind every week makes a nice change from evening buffets. Our room boy kept our Beach Villa immaculate and the only suggestion would be improved lightening in the room. We highly recommend this resort.

Room Tip: 116-118 are good beach villas (good beach and snorkeling is good)

Accommodation is great, the whole concept provided us with with an unforgettable vacation. Beach villa was the best, you can reach the beach right the next step outside. The sea was great, we had snorkelling next to lots of fishes even baby sharks:) right in 20 mt of the beach. Spa and diving service was wonderful we enjoyed every minutes. All inclusive option is great, you don't need to spend extra money. Food and drinks were high quality. Lastly thanks to the staff, they were very helpful and welcoming.

Room Tip: Beach villa is best, cheap and comfortable enough. You are next to beach, easiest access to the beac...

Dear Isi,

Thank you for this nice comment. We always like to have the feedback of our guests during their stay and also after. The beach villa is lovely for sure and you can make snorkeling easily. Lily has the chance to have its own coral reef garden and you can see as you said many fishes close to the beach and sometimes baby sharks. They stay inside the reef because it is safe for them, they are still too small to jump in the big ocean.

We hope to see you again in the future.

Sincerely

Pascal Billon

Our second visit to Lily Beach with the same group or friends - 4 couples plus one more couple attracted by our stories of a paradise, altogether 11 people. First time we were there in March 2011.

But for unpleasant experience with seaplanes at arrival and departure it was another perfect holiday. Will describe in detail to warn other guests - be aware that seaplane shedule is out of resort's control.

Our friends and we were travelling by different airlines - we had a connection flight by Emirates via Dubai which arrived at 8 am, and our friends had a direct flight from Moscow to Male by Aeroflot, that arrived an hour later. When we all gathered in a café (!) Not Lily Beach air-conditioned lodge at Air Taxi terminal, because they allow us there only 2 hours prior to departure), The girl who was meeting us at Male airport said that unfortunately they are expecting a seaplane not earlier than 4 pm (!!!) a day of holidays lost! After three hours of arguing we were transferred to an airport hotel for lunch and there were informed that there is an opportunity to get to Lily Bach by speedboat.

Which we readily accepted, and 1,5 hour later were at our personal paradise, at last. Pity - no greetings by a drum-beater(???) There was one for those who arrived by seaplane an hour later, but nothing for us...strange...

There is a Russian-speaking girl at reception - Kristina - though we really did not need it as we speak fluent (I hope) English. She was quick and efficient in whisking us to our Beach bungalows and our stay at paradise began! We even had a chance for a quick snork before sunset on our arrival day.

Lily beach has significantly improved after our last stay two years ago. There is a new Resident Manager Mr. Pascal Billon and he has obviously changed a lot to make the stay here an even more comfortable and unforgettable one

-theme dinners at main restaurant Lily Maa restaurant more obvious and interesting now (had difficulty in finding which theme evening is today last year)

- wellcome booklets are more informative and in all imaginable languages including Russian

-sun-beads at the beach are made from wood now, used to be plastic two years ago, and have your room's number - so you do not have to worry they will be occupied by Water Villa Guests

-there is a new Japanese Tappaniaki Restaurant at Aqva Bar, an entertaining experience not to be missed

-there is a live show and bazaar at the Wave restaurant once a week - an interesting addition too

-staff is even more thoughtful than before, warning you well beforehand about all excursions by sending an individualized letter to your room, or offering you a lift in a buggy, or arranging dinners in Tamarind restaurant

- a nice touch - a get-together cocktail party for second-time comers, where Mr. Billon has a nice small talk with each of the guests - makes you feel you are a family

- special flower decoration for a Russian Holiday 8th of March (Woman's day) with a nice touchy sign "With compliments" and a congratulation in Russian signed by my husband's name ( though he actually did not arrange it!)

-lots of other small touches that make you feel at home

A week is definitely not enough, and even the unpleasant accident on our last day did not diminish our good feelings towards this resort.

Not that they can influence it - I understand that al problems with seaplanes are due to the sea-plane operating company and the resort cannot cope with it.

We had an early, 10 am flight by Emirates back home. We were supposed to leave by a seaplane at 7-15 am with 12 other guests trying to catch the same flight. The seaplane did arrive, but was declared to be broken and we were forced to wait for another one - 20 people and luggage on a jetty in an open sea! The new seaplane has arrived 1 hour later and naturally we were late for our flight from Male. Fortunately the seaplane company manager managed to re-book us for a later flight with Turkish Airways same day, sent us to an excellent 5-star hotel in Male. They even arranged somehow for us to have good seats for 8,5 hour flight to Istanbul so we were able to sleep.

So thank you, everyone at Lily Beach for another unforgettable holiday. We will certainly come back despite these unpleasant experience with seaplane!

One thing to improve - bed is too soft, we had problems with our backs from day1, and a better choice of pillows will do no harm either.

Dear Alla,

Thank you for taking the time to review your most recent stay with us. It was a pleasure to see you for the second time with all your friends in our little paradise. As you said the seaplane transfer is not on our control and sometimes not under control due to the weather or technical problems, our partner MAT is always doing their best to reach the guest comfort but when issues happened like for you we offer to our guests another solution as the speed boat.

It is nice to see that you liked our small attention for the women day. It is very important for us to celebrate this special day and we hope it makes you feel at home and a part of the Lily Family.

You are right a week is not enough in Lily and we are honored you would like to return with your friends, longer this time! We look forward for your third visits.

Sincerely

5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

where to start, i tried to write this review when we came home but didnt really know how to begin. after seeing some of the negative reviews i figured i'll just start from the beginning and give you my honest opinion of it all throughout. So here goes, my boyfriend and i travelled to lily beach around the end of september 2012 for 10 days, he proposed to me there and it was perfect. in saying that i know that there are other people whose reviews have pointed out negative aspects of their trip and for that i can't really comment on but i understand that not everything is perfect for everyone but i'll try and address those negatives if they tie in to our experience.

When we came off the plane and arrived at male like all airports you have to have a look for the representative that holds the plaque that says 'lily beach'. i know that some have said they couldnt find the rep etc but i can assure you if you have a quick look you'll see him, and if not because of the number of people around ask any of the other reps theyre all so helpful theyll point you in the right direction.

our cases were weighed, hand luggage too, for the seaplaneourney (it only about a 25 minute trip from male to lily beach). our rep then took us to a bus that takes you around 5 minutes from male airport to the seaplane terminal. when you get there you say youre staying at lily beach, another rep will take you straight to the air conditioned relaxing lounge that is solely for those travelling to lily. you'll get water, or your choice of drink along with earplugs for the plane ride and a cool flannel to refresh yourself. we only waited around 15 minutes for our transfer but there were 14 people on our flight the bags all came with us. i should mention that our flight landed to drop off 8 people at a different resort before continuing on to lily but this only took a few minutes then we were off again, lily bound.

i mention the seaplane transfer time because i know some people have said they had to wait a long time etc, if the planes are busy with the number of passengers to be transferred then you may wait, if the weathers bad or you need to wait on more people heading the same direction then yes you will wait....but to be fair you wait in an air conditioned more than comfortable quiet private lounge for lily beach clients ...so its not a horrific ordeal as some have made out.

when you arrive at lily your bags disappear and are taken to your room, you are given another cool flannel botlle of water on the boat that takes you from the seaplane jetti to the island itself (maybe around 5 minutes or so) once in lily you get a welcome cocktail and a chat for around 20 minutes with a rep who does photocopy your passports, but also explains you get 1 dinner in tamarind per week of your stay we were there for 10 days so got 2 meals there. as id seen before here its advisabvle to book what night you want the meal there asap just in case of unavailability for the night you may request. the rep advises you of that during the chat but some people have said on tripadvisor it is a pointless longwinded chat. i mean i admit youre tired possibly jet lagged and dying to change your clothes but its such a useful chat they just explain how things work food wise and give you a map of the island, they also briefly cover what excursions etc are available so it isnt as its been suggested by others a complete waste of time.

we stayed in beach villa 163, so handy to literally everything its in the middle of the island close to the lily maa buffet restaurant and everything else as well. its not near staff accomodation so you wont as some others have said hear much noise, to be fair we'd walk every night around the island and i can honestly say i never heard rowdyness or excessive noise from the staff area but maybe if you stayed in a lagoon villa you'd hear something but even then its not anything like a nuisance level of noise to be fair.

now the staff, yes ive read the reviews where people say theyre hit and miss or dont say hello please or thank you but ill tell you what i experienced. the staff are for the mostpart amazing polite helpful people who do their best to cater to everyone. like i said some people have said theyre rude texting on phones and dont clean your room or fill the mini bar regularly....i didnt go through any of this, if you said hello good morning how are you ..every single staff member would answer you back in an equally polite manner. if you treat them as human beings who are doing a difficult job with little thanks you wont experience any problems, i mean when asking for a menu or a drink, to say please is just good manners. when your drink or menu arrives to say thankyou shockingly enough is good manners.

some who have written reviews would have you think that the staff are ignorant unhelpful and uninterested ..thats not what i saw what i did see though was how even when spoken to or treated like 'the help' the staff still smiled said no problem sir goodnight madam. polite, helpful and truly capable people who do a damn good job, but like i said earlier they cant cater for everyone right?

so our room was cleaned twice a day once in the morning at once at night, i dont know where the reviews are coming from that it was at weird times. we went for breakfast at around 8-9everyday and when we came back our room was clean. at night we went to dinner around 7-8 and when we came back our roomwas clean. i did see a plate outside the villa next to ours for 2 days but to be fair our neighbours were disgusting and frequently brought buckets of food smuggled from the buffet back to the room, which technically you dont need to do.

the minibar was filled daily,we dont drink so i cant comment on how good the wine is or whatever but soft drinks pringles etc all replaced as and when youve used then, ours was usually restocked at around 1pm every day.

i saw someone had been quite rude about the staff at the aqua bar, again i cant speak for their experince but ours was polar opposite. we went there for lunch most days but after day 2 our waiter joseph christopher knew what drinks we'd like without having to ask, he gave us a menu but pretty much knew we'd take any 1 of 5 things. the day after we got engaged he brought us a beautiful ice cream sundae ( which he did of his own accord) we never had to god forbid ask for our own menu , i know this mustbe difficult for some people having to speak to the 'hired folk' and say can i have a menu please- we found them competent and helpful at all times though.

the spa? yes its a bit expensive but hey you are on an island in the middle of the ocean you cant expect to pay as i heard one fellow guest say '14 dollars for a full body massage like at home' oh you can email lily ahead of time and ask them for a price list though for the spa if its something you think you may use thats what we did so we werent shocked when we got there price wise.

you dont pay for anything or tell anyone your room number on the island, unless you want a spa treatment or to go on an excursion your wallet doesnt come out at all.

the food is great at the buffet lily maa you may have to wait for food to be replenished at v busy times but im talking a minute, you can get everything else on yuor plate then come back the the chicken or fish that will be ready by then.

i will say we ate at vibes once not because we didnt enjoy our lunch there but mainly because it was proper night on the town dinner time food served at lunch, it was gorgeous but just too much for us at lunchtime. in truth you could eat in ay of the restaurants theyre all beautiful- special note though we learned that the fruit sculptures in the lily maa buffet restaurant were done by a guy who won the award for the best fruit sculptures--- im just saying theyre exceptional and you ll walk past them every time you go to get food and not notice but theyre immense!

ok so we did ask if we could stay in a water villa for one night, we were told itd be $800, needless to say we decided not too but if you book it at home or ask ahead of time via email i dont knowmaybe you can get it a bit cheaper.

on the whole it was peaceful beautiful and the most relaxing holiday ive ever been on.
we will b going back for our honeymoon in two years time for 4 weeks maybe 2 weeks in the water villa and 2 weeks in the beach villas so i cant wait!

oh one last thing there are some reviewers whove said all you hear all day is seaplanes... i mean you hear them fly overhead but it lasts a few minutes and it isnt heathrow airport theres maybe 3 or 4 a day and they dont even necessarily land at lily so youll barely notice.

oh and the bar staff leave coolers around the island near the loungers every 10 feet or so... we didnt realise thats what it was but it saves you skipping back to the room mini bar or going to aqua to get a drink, not that theyre far from you but the coolers are left right at the loungers.

a bit longwinded i know but while i can see where people are coming from with certain observations our experience was just perfect and we dont have any reason not to go back to lily beach again and again.

hope this has been helpful, enjoy your break wherever you decide on... ahem cough lily beach!!!

Room Tip: 163 beach villa so central to everything and you can see the beach and ocean through the gap in the...

Dear Laura,

Thank you for the wonderful review you gave us. All the team is really thankful to you to take the time to share your memories with us. We are so pleased that you found the resort to exceed your expectations. We appreciate the helpful tips to all future and returning guests regarding the transportation from the airport and the Resort’s facilities.

We are so happy that you enjoyed the food from our restaurants, especially Lily Maa, which you had relaxing experience in our Tamara Spa and appreciate the cooler box on the beach. It is true that is perfect to have a soft drink without going in the bars or back in the room.

“Amazing, polite, helpful people” We are very honor by the lovely words you gave to our team members. Lily will never be the same Resort without them. The team is the spirit of the island. They try their best every single day to make all guests stay perfect. So thank you, all the team appreciates that, from the talented fruit sculptor to the friendly and caring waiter, the polite good morning of the gardener, the carefulness of the house keeper until all the team working in the back, all are involved in the success of Lily Beach.

As you said, you cannot wait to return to our resort, and we cannot wait to have you back. We are very glad and honor to see that you choose to spend your honeymoon with us and longer this time!

Excellent. We have been to LB twice before, before the upgrade. We noticed some aspects the same, but a lot was different - all in a good way. Lagoon villa great (especially champagne in the jacuzzi). Food superb. But if anything we will remember the staff - brilliant.
