“honeymoon heaven !!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

My husband & I stayed in the Lux for 8 days at the end of June for our honeymoon & loved every minute of it !!!!!!!!

As it was a special occassion we spent a lot of time researching hotels in the Maldives and picked this one after all the good reviews and because it had such a big selection of bars & restaurants so we didnt get bored.

Words cant do our holiday justice ... it was pure heaven ! We were treated like VIPS the whole trip - welcomed with cold flannels and drinks, shown the island before being taken to our beach pool with a swimming pool and its own private garden and piece of beach out the front ! The bed was very comfy and we loved that we had two showers (outside), one in a cubicle and one unclosed. The colour of the water & sand is really amazing & photos dont do it justice !!

We tried all the restaurants and literally couldnt fault anything about them ! Our favourite was Senses ( Indian style food ) , the nan breads & chicken tikka were heavenly and enjoyed at our dining table on the beach surrounded by lanterns . The food on offer is unreal - try the crab chowder and sushi !Special mention also for the breakfast where u could pick from the large selection of foods on offer or have pancakes / Omlettes / waffles made fresh for u but again all the restaurants were great - We could not fault anything about the quality of food or the selection . For us it worked out better going all inclusive as the alcohol/ food is so expensive out there .

As honeymooners we were again treated like royalty and often found our bed / bath covered in rose petals with notes left for us , a sunset boat tour on board a traditional fishing boat with little beds on the roof so you could lie down , cocktail making class & dinner on the beach , bottle of champagne and fruit platter amongst other things ! We would not hesitate to go back here and even though the hotel was at full capacity for our first two days , we barely saw anyone about so we really felt secluded ! We enjoyed ' screening on the beach ' when a cinema is set up on the sand with bean bags and arm chairs to relax in - very romantic with the stars above you , popcorn machine in the background and a makeshift bar set up to help youself. We didnt get bored once and the island is full of little touches like 'swings' and hidden bars , home made icecream & a fab spa ( we had couples massage in a water villa - which was very relaxing) .

For the last 2 nights we paid to upgrade to a prestigue water villa just so we could try a water villa & it was beautiful 2 . Opening the blinds in the morning to the bluest water is something we will never forget ! We only experienced one day of bad weather out of 8 days, we woke up to thunder and lightning on the 5th day - but it was a real experience & quite romantic after that the rest of the holiday went back to sunshine so would not put us off returning in June .

The island is also fumegated every day at 5pm and we are lucky to report we didnt get bitten once ! ( something i was worried about as i arrived with 2 cans of spray ! ) - seriously go to Lux and dont listen to very rare negative reports on here - the staff go out of their way to make this a holiday of a lifetime and it is one we will never forget !!!!!!! The best complement i can give the Lux is that the Sea Plane Pilot /co-pilot were staying in our hotel before making his return journey to Male at 6am with very depressed holiday makers and he said he has stayed on a lot of the islands over the years and this is one of the best !!!!!!!

Room Tip: We loved the combination of beach villa with swimming pool and then a couple of nights in a prestigu...

First of all allow me to thank you on behalf of all the islanders for posting about your experience at LUX* Maldives on TripAdvisor.

I am very pleased to see that you had a great holiday with us and you enjoyed every moment of your honeymoon in our paradise.

A good vacation cannot go without good food and I am pleased to see that you enjoyed the wide array of food and beverage. It is very important for us to ensure the most comfort and the best quality service to all our guests.

The island is indeed quite big compared to other islands here in Maldives and we have tried to take full advantage of that by offering a wide array of activities to our guests. I am delighted to see that you enjoyed your Spa, our screen on the beach, our homemade ice creams as well as your sunset cruise.

What makes us extra special is the friendliness and passion of our team members. It is indeed true that our “staff go out of their way to make our guest’s stay a holiday of a lifetime and I am happy to know that your holiday with us is the one that you will never forget!”

It is always good to know that the seaplane pilots are ambassadors for us :-)

The entire team and I are glad that you had a wonderful stay with us. We all look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

On behalf of all the islanders, congratulations again to you both!

we are a family of 3, with a 9 year old boy. we stayed at a water villa and in one word our 10 days in LUX were perfect, could be better if we get a longer stay :)

the water villas are very good, and they fit 3 easily, and you can always wait for surprises at your back door... like baby sharks, sting rays, turtles... and many many fishes

the resort provides everything that has been promised and much more. the people in the island do their best all day long to make the stay pleasant and enjoyable.
we got an "all inclusive package" and the deal is very clear, the beverage menus in all bars are good very comprehensive.

the diving center is also very good with many different locations for diving close by, so if you are staying for a week we can good different locations everyday.

for snorkelling, there are snorkelling safaris every day for free, what is perfect for the kids.

regarding the restaurants, for our taste the best one is Senses, an Arabic / Indian restaurant... delicious... by the way... all the restaurants have kids menu, so if you are traveling with kids you will not face any challenge to keep the kids happy.

My husband and I stayed for 10 nights at the Lux Maldives in March 2013. We had a fabulous stay which could not have been better. Right from the start when we were picked up from the airport by seaplane, and landing outside the hotel, we were blown away by the sheer beauty of the hotel's location.

Our room was spacious, tastefully decorated with a fantastic outdoor bathroom. It was serviced twice a day and always kept clean and tidy - most days we had a beautiful flower arrangement or decorative animal made out of towels left on our bed. A really special touch and such a skill!

The choice of food was excellent with plenty of a la carte restaurants to choose from. The nice thing about this hotel is that the restaurants are spread over the island and so it feels like you are going out to a different place each night. So for those who like variety and space, it does not feel like you are staying on a hotel complex. The standard of presentation of the food was like eating in a Michelin starred restaurant and we were particularly well looked after by staff in Allegria - the chef even treated us to a personalised 4 course meal on our last night which really made it special.

We used to like watching the stingray feeding at 5 pm each night by the bar, and going on the snorkelling trips too. We did a whale shark trip but were not lucky enough to see any unfortunately but this is definitely recommended. The hotel will organise anything you wish to do and the staff were really helpful and professional.

We stayed on the sunrise side of the island - very quiet and secluded so ideal for couples and honeymooners. The sunset side had more families. But it really depends on your preference - we would be happy to stay on either side. If you are looking for a beach room, we suggest having one near to the reception as some rooms are quite far away on the island and you need a buggy to get around so that might feel a little isolated.

It would be hard to imagine finding a better hotel in the Maldives - service, food, and activities offered were all first class. We will definitely go back.

Room Tip: We sought suggest having a room near to the reception which is much closer to the activities and the...

I would like to thank all the contributors for their input on Lux resort as without it , I may have not chosen this delightful resort to spend 7 days with my wife and 3 children (15,13 and 3 years old). I had only been to Maldives 15 years ago and was looking for a perfect resort for myfamily. Thankfully I found it.

I visited the island from June 28-July 5 2013. To get there, we had to take a sea plane for 25 minutes from Male airport where we experienced breath taking views of Maldives till we reached the island. The staff were perfect and welcomed us with cold towels and juice as we deplaned and were led straight to the reception. We had taken a water villa and a beach villa and both were perfect. Exactly what I had expected from a luxurious 5* resort!!. Lots of sea life visible as we walked to the water villa with shark feeding and ray feeding every day from 5pm.

I am generally very picky with hotels and I really don’t have any complaints instead have commendations for all the staff that made my and my family’s stay so enjoyable. The island is very kid friendly and the staff always smiling and ready to engage in a conversation and go out of their way wherever possible. Many thanks to the resort manager Mamoun who was always there to ensure everything was perfect. We spent 7 fantastic days where we had great weather and visited the whole island using cart, bicycle and foot. Favorite restaurant was the Japanese where we sat at the teppanyaki table and the food was delicious and the chef entertained us with his many skills.

If you are planning to visit Maldives, don’t give it a second thought, check out Lux and you will not be disappointed. I definitely will be back again soon!! 10 out of 10 from a seasoned traveler who has seen it all!

We were needing some serious relaxing vacations as my husband and I were exhausted of the work life. We actually had a few choices in mind and after a few weeks searching the Internet we’ve chosen the Lux Maldives for our holidays from end of May until beginning of June 2013. Lux Maldives gave us a pretty good impression on how well the explanation in their website is but moreover how good the reviews from other guest match.

At the airport a Lux representative guided us to the air taxi terminal, where Lux has a dedicated waiting lounge. Half an hour flight from Male airport and we arrived at out holiday resort.

We stayed for 13 days at a beach villa facing the sun set side. This was the very right choice for us. The villas offer a beautiful patio with a view to the more or less private beach. Even though there where neighboring villas around us, being at the beach in front of our villa, we had the impression of being on our own, deserted island. An awesome feeling and amazing view!

The love for details at the island is remarkable. Even though the island is fairly big, we have not found a single spot where we would have thought that more consideration was needed.

Since we have been there for almost two weeks, it helped that the resort offers lots of activities. There are daily tours for snorkeling at the house reef and also for going to other reefs in the area. Sport classes and Yoga activities were offered free of charge and on a daily basis. We loved the snorkeling tours and the snorkeling at the house riff, as well as the open-air cinema under the stars and the manta and baby shark feeding in the evening. There is always something to do on the island, from the different activities the resort offers to the various restaurants, which every day offered a variety of choices with an extraordinary taste.

Spending a vacation in a Maldivian resort, beside enjoying doing nothing or taking part in the activities the resort plans the guests, enjoying the food is definitely something you are looking forward to and in this respect the restaurants, their fabulous service and their delicious food have been gone beyond the expectations we had before. The service was remarkable, not just friendly but the fact that in many cases the Executive Chef came out to ask how we were doing and if everything was fine, is something that you don’t see that often. Beside from beach bars, there are two buffet restaurants and three a la card restaurants at the island.

We did not book the all-inclusive package on purpose just because we wanted to be free in when we want to eat and what we want to eat. So we had the opportunity to visit all restaurants. Without exaggerating every day we had an amazing experience at dinner at the resort, which made our stay not just special but unique and really unforgettable.

One of the dinners will definitely stay in our mind, offered and let by the Executive Chef of the resort, Jonathan Duiker, who - because of his awesome service, attention and really interest in the well being of his guest - became a person of our trust to whom we enjoyed talking to from time to time. This particular 6-course dinner was right at the beach of the Alegria restaurant with 5 other couples. This was not just a delicious Gourmet Food with utmost care and refinement; almost elevating it to the level of art, but the night was also fun. We got to meet other people, tasted some South African wine and enjoyed the night in front of the beach under the light of he stars.

Another day, the Sences restaurant chef Alu prepared a delicious Indian food, we will certainly not forget. A 7-course menu specially made for us. We shared with the Executive chef how we were enjoying the food and the next day along with Alu he came up with an Indian 7 course menu specially created for the both of us. WOW! We both were speechless, the food was incredible good, and the price was really fair. We did not believe this kind of personalized service we were receiving. I have to say, that I have not experienced something like this before.

At the Umami restaurant you must not miss the live cooking by Chef Alfie. An outstanding experience and he made us a fan of the Japanese kitchen on our last night. We were pleased to enjoy at the Teppanyaki table the real art of the Japanese kitchen. Awesome!

Once again, Lux resort exceeded our expectations of personalized service, quality, and attention. With a great eye for detail and observation for customer satisfaction, this is a resort which I definitely will recommend for anyone looking for relax, enjoy of a high cuisine, but also for an extraordinary service at any time, any day, and with the best disposition to do things right.

If we come back there would not be another resort we would like to stay at. This has been more than a normal vacation; Lux resort and its Management Team have made our trip a perfect holiday!!!!

Room Tip: Get a Beach Villa in the sun set side. You will love it! :-)

I would recommend this hotel/resort to anybody wanting to go over to the Maldives. from the moment we landed at the international airport in Male till the second we took off on our way home the resort management team and the staff did everything possible to make our trip comfortable and relaxing for us.

A special thanks would have to go to Mode (Mohammed) who was our assigned room service/maid.

The all inclusive package would be highly recommended as it saves you the hassle of worrying about how much money to take or how much to carry on you.

Most days me and my wife would leave the room with just our camera and that would be it.

Try and get yourself a overwater bungalow as the views are amazing and the room it self is totally stunning!

A perfect 5* resort for 3* prices!

Room Tip: Rooms facing the ocean are perfect

I believe everything has already been said but as we were on holiday with a lady in a wheelchair I thought I would say WOW what a holiday.

Our friend wanted a holiday somewhere hot and as we had been to Lux before then I thought this was an ideal setting. We stayed in beach bungalows and although I say she requires a wheelchair she is able to walk short distances.

Reception - I emailed the resort before we went and informed them we were bringing someone who needed a wheelchair and the response was even though they are not geared towards people who have a mobility disability they would help us out as much as they could - never a truer word spoken

Restaurants - as soon as they saw us coming staff were there to help with the wheelchair and walk my friend to a seat, they were all so helpful. The food was outstanding and even though steak was not on the buffet one night they still went out of the way to get some for us. I recommend the pancakes - pure delight.

Boat trip- I have always wanted to swim with a whale shark and my dream came true. The guys on the boat even helped my friend in/ out of the boat so she could swim in the sea (I am sure in the UK they would have broken every rule with regards to moving and handling but thank you).

Bars- I am sure I went through the cocktail list and was slightly tipsy after learning how to make them, they even had pimms - perfect.

Spa -amazing massage, one of the best I have ever had and I was given some flowers from the ladies at the spa as it was my birthday

Managers fantastic, the resort manager every day asked us how things were and one night he pushed my friend back to the bungalow. Dominic was on hoilday when we arrived at the island but on his return he even came and sought us.

I could go on and on but all I will say is life is not a trial run and if you can afford it then please visit this beautiful island or the Maldives.
