I am a Hyatt lover and when I found out there was a new Park Hyatt in the Maldives I was keen to investigate.
From Doha, the Maldives is a four hour flight. This resort is truly remote - involving another hour flight from Male and then a full on James Bond style boat ride to the hotel. It is further than some other resorts but worth it for the solitude.
This was formerly another resort and Hyatt recently took it over, bringing up the standards to those we had come to expect. Booked into the water villas, we had uninterrupted views of the ocean and the sounds of the water lapping below the stilts to lull us to sleep.
Each water villa has an outdoor lounging area as well as a bathroom the size of many apartments with a lovely large bath. Each villa, (there are pool and beach villas also on the island) has a personal butler who organizes everything you need. For example, it was my birthday so we organized some lovely canapes and champagne on the deck of my villa. They also have free wifi - a particular bonus for those who don't like to be too remote!
The island has a resident marine biologist who is not only an expert on the reef's fish, but will take you on guided dives and snorkeling trips. Be aware these guided trips come at at extra cost, so ask beforehand.
the island has two restaurants - one all day dining with a diverse menu and one more in keeping with local and regional cuisine, as well as a bar.
Day trips can be organized and we were fortunate to be accompanied by the GM on a dolphin spotting cruise . Knowing I was a keen foodie, the chef and his team conducted a cooking class in their small vegetable garden using local ingredients o cook some traditional curries. A memorable experience!
Staff are knowledgable and attentive and work hard to give you a great experience.
This is a lovely resort, truly remote and one well worth the trip and the cost.
