“Good hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2014

I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. The transfers were excellent and the staff very friendly. I came in from India and therefore although by European standards the hotel was very good it lacked several features of a great 5 star or deluxe property. There was no honeymoon welcome, some of the rooms were basic although good value. Another problem was a view of some factory from a distance which may have taken away some of the Maldives charm of being secluded. Finally, price of activities and food was exceptionally high and felt a rip-off rather than genuine service.

Room Tip: Ocean front rooms

We are in Velassaru now celebrating New Year holidays (2adults+2kids 5-10 years). The resort is very good, but not luxurious nevertheless. We booked it for 7 nights as we liked the references, photos and the price was reasonable for these dates. Velassaru is located in 20min by speedboat from Male. It is one of the advantages if you travel with children. Other hotels are easily seen from Velassaru Island. Garbage recycling plant... yes, it is also seen! And it really belching smoke the most part of the day. But there is no smell and it is rather distant from the resort. We live in beach villa #208, it is opposite the reef, the opposite side of harbour. I sent the messsage to the hotel management to room us this way and they complied with my request. The staff work is very very very good, theya are almost invisible, very friendly and diligent!!! New Year dinner was excellent but we had to pay extra for it (about 500 $). Children are crazy about swimming in infinity pool. The whole impression is very good and we really enjoy our rest in Maldives!

Two ladies - both in zany jobs and needing a weeks R&R but with access back to the real world = Perfect. The (free) wifi in the villas, and even on the beach was stronger and faster than it is in the Cotswolds!

Rooms beautiful - we had a beach villa. Every TV channel you can imagine - huge array of DVDs for the odd rainy afternoons....

We both slept so soundly - our only worry was deciding where we would eat that night! Every iota was thought about and done to point on the plane on the way home we tried to find fault with *anything* from the best weeks holiday we'd had... we sat and thought long and hard. There really was nothing - everything was perfection... the food (we didn't go all inclusive - we did consider opting in but looking at what we were eating and drinking over a couple of days decided to stick to paying separately for it) was brilliant. Something for everyone - self service breakfast which knocks the socks of anything you'll ever have experienced before. Fresh fruits, yoghurts to pastrys, waffles/crepes to eggs of every variety and full English if you wanted.... I ate so cleanly and healthily it was more of a retreat......

The varying restaurants were terrific - we especially liked the Tepanyaki and watching the sharks around the jetty as the sunset bar (it was due to be refurbished as we left along with some of the water villas.... it was fab as it was so cannot imagine any improvement!)

Things to do? I was worried as I'd not done a "beach" holiday in years.... but we ran out of time.... the glass kayak is a must. As is snorkelling - we did the fishing for your supper boat trip as well as cocktail evenings......

Oh - as for the one thing each we made each other come up with? It was stormy the one day and our massage was moved inside the spa rather that outside and there was nothing to 'look at' aside the floor from the massage couch... maybe a bowl of water with petals or something? My partner said "and this morning the staff had changed over and I had to order our breakfast teas as we sat down for the first time since the morning we arrived..." (I told you were were scraping at the barrel!). Just incredible!

Off to Baros their sister island next year... but we will be back for sure....

My sister and I went for a week in October following the death of my mother-we wanted peace and tranquillity. This island delivered on both points and the service was second to none-however we have stayed on two other islands and it was disappointing that at the evening meal guests turned up in t shirts and swimming shorts. I know that a vast majority of guests come from the far east but a dress code would have been nice. What is the point of taking lovely evening wear when we could have turned up in anything for dinner? I would always choose the Maldives for that special break but I think that Baros would be my choice for a special time.

Great get away! we stayed in the water villa & was beautiful! Our breakfast was included & there was great selections ! The staff is great there & try to make children feel like their welcome I had my 3 month old son & 6 year old! there is no kids activities or childrens club I wish they open something because it would spike visitors to this island since its closer to the city. But Not one time have i been disappointed with the staff their very welcoming & care about their visitors. The prices at restaurants are not high at all their average in regarding to it being maldives,I read alot of reviews on here that were negative and none of them appeared to be true when we arrived go by the people that have the good reviews. The sea life was amazing we seen sting rays, sharks, beautiful fish :) Some things are pricey like the activities example renting a jet ski or big game fishing tours but if your just looking to get away from the city & relax i would recommend this resort :)

This small island close to Mahle is something to dream of. The welcome staff makes you feel like you have arrived on the Fantasy Island. The view of the white sand beach is really something REAL and not a photoshop picture.

Beautiful paradise island, spacious rooms- beach villa with pool was perfect for a honeymoon. Looks like a postcard! Staff is friendly and helpful. Would have liked more variety for the lunch menus and a convenience store. Teppanyaki and sand restaurants were good and the sashimi is a must! The spa was a treat!

Room Tip: Beach villa with pool was stunning
