“Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

We stayed in a water villa for 14 nights for our honeymoon at the beginning of October 2012. When we arrived, as we were a honeymoon couple our villa had been specially decorated and we were given a free bottle of bubbly and cakes. It was a lovely way of welcoming us.

Our villa was lovely and, we felt, not at all sparsely decorated as some reviews have suggested. The balcony was the perfect place to sunbathe and did not feel at all close to other villas, as lying on the loungers, facing the sea, the sea was the only thing to see and we could not see or hear anything from other villas. The walk to the water villas at night was particularly lovely, as the stars were so bright. We also got to walk through the trees to the restaurant for meals. The only downside was the air conditioning, which was at times not very cold, but at other times worked really well. There were plenty of fish to see in the sea outside our villa and all round the island. We also saw a turtle, rays and lots of little sharks.

We were all inclusive and did not find what we could and could not have at all confusing - on check in it was explained and we were given a leaflet. What was included was really generous. We did not feel that the water provided to the villa was at all lacking and we often had some left over, having had 1 litre bottles at our table ar breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The food was really nice and the variety great. The staff and waiters were always helpful and friendly.

We hired snorkels from the dive shop (quite cheap) and went on the sunset fishing trip (included in the all inclusive package) and the dolphin watching. Both trips were excellent and the fish which we caught was served to us in the restaurant the next day.

Downsides: I did get bitten by mosquitos although I know that the island is sprayed. The library is also not stocked with many books in English so bring plenty with you. We also ran out of suntan lotion and bought some from the shop - $49 for normal sized bottle! So we recommend taking plenty of that with you as well!

All in all, we had a perfect honeymoon and could not have asked for more. The staff were all so friendly and accomodating. I would definitely recommend the island for a honeymoon couple or other couple. We also saw several families there too.

We found the weather in general was really hot and sunny. We did have a few days where it was windy and overcast, and there were a few showers. Umbrellas were provided in the villa which was really handy for the walk to the restaurant!

Room Tip: We asked for a villa on the sunset side, which we got.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for staying at Medhufushi Island Resort and we are glad that you enjoyed your Honeymoon with us. Thank you for highlighting the issue of all insclusive as we do get a few guests who have mentioned their concerns.

We do appologixze for the airconditioning but hope that this was rectified when required. As for the mosquitos, we do endevour to fog at least twice a week and also to remove anything that collects water that can be a breeding place for mosquitos. Unfortunetly we are also located close to local islands and cant seem to completely arest this.

We are glad that you found Medhufushi a Paradise and we hope that you again choose Medhufushi for another vacation. Thank you.

We stayed in a water villa and must say that this Island is gorgeous. From the moment you land to the moment we left a week later we were welcomed by everyone with a friendly smile and "good morning, evening etc" by every single member of staff on the Island. Nothing is ever to much for any of the staff.

We landed on our 2nd leg of our honeymoon having just had a long 4 flights from Cape Town, but the moment we landed we soon forgot how tired we were. The water villa's are simply stunning, we woke up every morning to a view to die for, Heaven! - There's nothing like just opening the doors and walking out onto your private balcony and down the stairs into the ocean - beautiful. We were given a complimentary bottle of champagne and flowers and a congratulations chocolate cake on our arrival as it was our honeymoon, beautiful touch we thought.

Do the Dolphin trip, well worth it as we saw over 100 swimming in their natural habitat. Also, the Lobster sunset meal on the beach, the food was amazing.

We would go back in a heart beat, thank you for making our honeymoon so special.

True Paradise. From the moment you step off the sea plan you enter paradise. The island is so beautiful and relaxing.

All of the staff are friendly and polite and really help to make the holiday.

We stayed in a water bungalow and I would highly recommend it. It's the perfect setting with very nice rooms.

The food is great. Every day there was a different choice with all the food being freshly prepared. Having a delay arriving at the resort due to weather at Male we were also very lucky to be provided with an evening in the non buffet restaraunt, again amazing .

I was a bit worried about some of the reviews around all inclusive. For us it was great. It's clear what is included and not included so I fail to see how others have got confused.

Overall I could not fault this resort and would defiantly go back.

Thanks for an amazing holiday.

It has taken me a while to write this review as I visited Medhufushi a while ago. We stayed here 10 nights and had the experience of 7 nights in the beach villa and 3 nights in the water villa. Both rooms very comfortable and clean. For us what really stood out was the food, we are food lovers and this was the perfect place (when we went). Every night there was a different theme and the variety was huge. The restaurant staff making the food were fantastic, the waiters on the other hand were ok. The island itself is kept clean however don't expect perfect white sand or clear crystal water.
We didn't have a great experience with the diving company, I opted for a initiation dive and to be frankly honest it was awful, they take you in the shallow water just near the restaurant where the water is the worst, you can't see anything - it is a shame because you would expect to be taken in the nice water where you can at least see a fish! we did complain about that but there was not any response from them. My partner who is an experienced diver and took his advanced course had a similar experience when taking part of his course. So my advice - take your initiation diving course elsewhere :)
Also be aware of some cheeky staff who make you watch them cutting a coconut and then forcing you to give them a tip.
Overall we had a wonderful time, we enjoyed doing some of their activities, for example going fishng in the sunset, spa experience lovely sometimes they do a special package deal, lookout for those. We also enjoyed a beautiful lobster dinner outdoor BUT please be aware take some insect repellent, I got bitten many times ! Hope you found this review useful if you have questions let me know.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for choosing Medhufushi Island Resort for your last vacation and for now taking your precious time to comment on your stay with us on TripAdvisor.

We are happy that you found our food amazing, and the services satisfactory and we hope that you had a good time with us. Please note that the clarity of the water depend on the season and also the weather and currents at the time you were here.

I have brought your comments with regards to the initiation dive to the attention of the Dive Center and they will be required to give us an explanation. With regards to your comments on Mosquito's, we do Fog the entire island twice weekly and weekly cleanups are held to also make sure that there is no stagnant water for them to breed. We will therefore try to do a bit of misting in between foggings in order to rectify this.

Thank you also for your comment regarding your spa treatments, private dinner and excursions, we appreciate your positive comments. Thank you and we hope that you will once again choose to stay with us on your next trip to the Maldives.

What truly makes a 5 star resort/hotel is the attention to details and the Medhufushi is missing a lot of details...
One that I will mention because I find it unacceptable is related to the drinking water. We were paying USD$500 a night on All Inclusive plan and couldn't take any drinking water to the room! Well, I could but would have to pay extra USD$5 per bottle!
I was told that I could drink 10 or more litres of water at the bar/restaurant for 'free' but I couldn't take 1L bottle to my room...
Honestly, staying on a 5 star resort with these prices, I was actually expecting the water to be delivered to my room with a smile...

Don't get me wrong, it's a lovely place and we really enjoyed our time there

Tips:
-Think carefully if ALL INCLUSIVE is for you. You'll be limited to low quality drinks and buffet meals every day. A La Carte restaurant serves main meals for average USD$35
-Take your snorkeling gear. Resort has them but you need to rent it
-Take waterproof shoes. This way you'll be able to walk on loose coral and don't cut yourself, specially when tide goes out
-Book your boat trips well in advance or you might miss out as it gets full quickly
-Take a small travel medical kit with basics
-When getting the Seaplane, keep the camera in your pocket as all hand luggage is stored at back of plane. Beautiful photos from the top

Water Villa vs Beach Villa vs Semi-dettached Villa
I booked a Semi-Dettached Villa as all the rest was full
When we got to the resort, we were told that a Water Villa was available if we wanted. We went to see it and were glad that we didn't book it. Let me explain:
-Decoration is very basic. I guess they think the feature is the ocean (which it is) but it feels very boring inside
-No trees. I much rather wake up and walk outside with a few coconut trees protecting me from the Sun. The Water Villas have nothing
-Since there are no trees around, all the area is very hot. During this time of the year, the West side villas get the full breeze coming in. This sounds nice but it can be quite strong
-All the Water Villas are very close to each other. Since there is no other place to seat/lay than the front balcony, it does feel very crowded
-Not very safe if you have a young kid

Semi-dettached Villas have paper thin walls with your 'neighbour' so you can hear litterally everything

Beach Villas are private, protected and have a warm decoration. Also, 5 metres away the beach/ocean is waiting for you..

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for taking the time to comment on your stay in TripAdvisor. Yes, Our All Inclusive at the present moment is only for beverages served by the glass. Please do note that we do give one, one liter bottle of Medhufushi water per day to all guest rooms.

A bottle of Medhufushi water 1 liter is at USD 3.50 and after service charge and tax USD 4.08 other branded waters are at USD 5.00 and above. We are looking at coming up with a better AI Package to include water and a few cocktails but as stated before this will only be realized in our next contract end 2013 to 2014.

We are glad that you had a good time with us and enjoyed your vacation. We thank you for your patronage and hopefully the next time you are with us, the AI would be more suitable. Thank you again for your comments and tips on TripAdvisor.

Everything was perfect about the hotel and the island. I strongly reccomend to join diving activities which is totally free. You just have to have a schnorchel and a diving glass with you. There are 2 types of rooms which one of them are on the sea and the other ones are on the beach. There is a price difference which beach villas are a bit cheaper. We stayed in this type and it was perfect.

So I stayed here for 2 Nights, and the staff made my stay an Amazing One. Kelly who received us at the jetty Area was so Kind. So explained to us about the property and the various activities on the Island. I didnt have to worry about my baggage as they resort guys delivered it to my room. i stayed at the beach villa and the room was Brilliant. The shower area was something I have never experienced in any of the countries I have visited. The Dining Hall was exceptional as we had a table reserved for us throughout our stay. The Food was sumptuous. From a Variety of Veg, Non Veg, Desserts, Fruits Etc my Heart was content with the food i ate. We did the Dolphin watching and the Island Hopping along with Snorkeling. Snorkeling in 30 feet deep sea area was a really good adventure. Something i have never done before. We also did Canoeing and it was brilliant. All in All Medhufushi made our stay a comfortable one, something like never before, and i would sure love to visit them Again. Thank You!!!
