“Simply Stunning on every level”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

We have just recently returned from this truly gorgeous island. It really felt like paradise from the moment we arrived. I can not recommend the wonderful staff, delicious food and just what was a really beautiful island highly enough. Even though the island was at full capacity, it never felt busy just wonderfully calm, the sea is simply stunning and excellent for snorkelling. We ate at the Four Spices one night as we were on All Inclusive and it was simply stunning. The spa treatments are superb too and I highly recommend the Signature Spa treatments.

A wonderful experience and now we need to plan our return. Highly highly recommended.

As soon as we arrived at the airport, the service began! We were greeted by our representative Conchy, who was extremely polite and knowledgable. Our luggage was taken and we waited for the boat, this was a fantastic experience, crystal clear waters and fresh air after a 10 hour flight was more than welcome. The short ride lasted about 40 minutes and the crew were very friendly. On arrival at the pier we were greeted by the resort staff and shown to reception where our rooms were allocated.
We had a deluxe beach hut which was lovely, the foilage was however as some people have mentioned but there is a reason for this. the room was spacious, clean and the air conditioning gave a great relief from the high temperatures. We were lucky and managed to upgrade to a Water villa which really was fantastic and a must if you have the opportunity, this was all handled excellently by Conchy who was a font of knowledge and extremly approachable.
The restaurants were great, different food every day with a wide variety, we were never short of things to try!.
We did a couple of the trips, the dolphin and sunset cruise was a really great one, we saw many dolphins and a fantastic sunset - really good value fior money and something I would highly reccomend.
The house reef offered some fantastic snorkelling, lots of fish to look at, in the evening the pier offered viewing of Manta rays, again a brilliant experience.
The watersports on offer were really good, we did jet sking, which was very enjoyable, although i felt a tad pricey, Sailing the catamarans for me was a highlight of the trip.
The whole resort was clean and there was a great deal to do, the pools, were great and if you wanted to escape the sun for a while the pool room at the sun rise bar was refreshingly chilly, nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Im sure that anyone going here will have a great time.
Thanks for a amazing trip!!

Room Tip: Go for a water villa!!!

Dear Guest,

It was a great pleasure welcoming you to Olhuveli Beach & Spa Resort, Maldives and we are delighted to learn that you spent a most wonderful holiday with us.

We are proud that our island sits at the edge of the atoll and is privy to spectacular marine migration of big fish and other creatures. The house reef is teeming with multi colored fish and corals and is perfect for a first dive or snorkeling experience. Further, we are glad to read that you had fantastic experience during the Dolphin & Sunset Cruise and enjoyed the Watersports World activities as Olhuveli is well-known among the watersports lovers.

Your generous praise of our resort and wonderful feedback will be definitely shared with Conchy and the entire team at the resort. Thank you for sharing your memorable holiday experience with us and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

My husband and I went for our honeymoon in March 2013. We booked it quite a few months in advance, and were assured that our room would be ready when we arrived at about 9.30am. However the day we arrived the resort was fully booked and we had to wait until 1.45pm for our room. However, once we had unpacked and had a chance to look around the island it was beautiful and picture postcard! The staff in Dhoni bar, Lagoon restaurant and the Sunset restaurant were extremely helpful and polite.

Some advice would be, it wasn't made clear what was included in the AI package, for example cocktails and snacks were extra, and spa treatments and excursions were very expensive. I do think if the prices were lowered it would definatly generate alot more business.

The food was lovely and very fresh, with quite alot of variety.

the A La Carte restaurants were very nice, but it was a shame you had to pay extra (as they were very expensive) maybe one complimentary meal per 7 days would have been a nice touch.

We were talking to one couple who had been there once before, and were therefore were a returning couple. They appeared to have more perks than us that were a honeymoon couple. We had been to Oman on the way to the Maldives, and we received more honeymoon gifts staying in hotels for 1 or 2 nights as opposed to 10 days.

Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, just a few things that could be tweaked to enjoy the say even more.

Room Tip: We stayed in a Deluxe water villa, which was lovely, and fairly near all the facilities (compared to...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for choosing Olhuveli Beach & Spa Resort as your honeymoon destination in the Maldives and for sharing your experience on Trip Advisor.

We are pleased to learn that you loved the island and enjoyed your stay with us even though we were unable to live up to the expectations entirely. It is a regret when especially we strive to offer our guests with outstanding services. In response to your feedback with regards to the delayed check-in, I would like to highlight that as per hotel policies normal check-in time is 1400 hrs with the option to pre-book an early check-in, although where availability permits at all we do our utmost to do a pre-check-in on arrival.

It is a delighted to know that our chefs could tantalize your taste buds with their varied gastronomic offerings and you had amazing dining experience at The Four Spices Restaurant which is our flagship outlet with genuine Asian Cuisine touches. As for pricing, considering the logistics, location and such unavoidable factors we do offer reasonably priced a-la carte options, spa experiences, a wide range of excursions for a 4* Deluxe property in the Maldives.

Once again, we appreciate the opportunity given to review and the feedback received is very instrumental in our attempts to enhance the services offered to our valuable guests. It is our hope that we will have the opportunity to be of service once again.

Paradise

From the minute we arrived to the minute we left, we thought the place was paradise. We landed and we were taken on to a speed boat. The speed boat driver spotted some dolphins on the journey and stopped to allow us to take photos.. what a great start to the holiday. We arrived to the resort around 11am, and were told that our room was ready.
We were staying in a Jacuzzi water Villa, and had requested a villa on the midway point. We were given room 306. This is on the sunset side. The room itself was fantastic, nice size bedroom/bathroom. One thing to note is that there was not a lot of marine life near our villa. And I recommend that you take a pair of reef shoes if staying in the water villas as it is rocky around the area.
Not only was the island stunning, all the staff we met were great. They all made sure we had a fantastic break. On the first morning we woke up an hour late as our clocks were still set to Male time (olhuveli time is an hour forward). We thought we had missed breakfast, so we ran to four spices just after 10am, breakfast finishes at 10. We saw they were packing everything away, luckily I explained the situation to the manager Raja, and he stopped his staff from packing everything away and made sure we had our breakfast! What can I say - service with a smile.
We were on the half board plan as this suited us. This included Breakfast and Dinner, we ended up grabbing lunch as and when we needed it. We spent a total of $700 dollars including 2 excursions.
Dinner was at the buffet restaurant, we are vegetarian, and Aslam made sure we were ok with the food every night, also made us a curry when we requested an alternatives. Food itself was fantastic, even for us vegetarians. lots of variety. They had a fresh fruit station both at breakfast and dinner. You select the fruits you want and they chop them up for you.
The house reef was great, we saw a variety of fish, and reef sharks. We also saw Sting rays and reef sharks just off the beach on a daily basis. Do take your own snorkel kit with you as rental charges are on the high side.
We ended up spending most of our time on the sunset side of the beach, parts of the beach were rough, but there were large patches that were like talcum powder. We only went around the island once and preferred the sunset side. We just loved the colour of the ocean.
Regarding the internet – wifi is around $150 dollars for a week.. Very expensive, however we picked up a couple of mobile sim cards at the airport, I think they were $17 for 1gb of data and some call time. These worked all over the island and lasted us all week.
We went on two excursions – and both were fantastic. We went on the Dolphin Sunset Cruise - $65 + taxes. They do not guarantee that we see dolphins, but I’m so glad we went. Our boat spotted a large pod of dolphins around 30 minutes in to the journey, then spent the next 40 minutes cruising besides them. We had dolphins all around the boat – an experience we all always remember. We also went on the snorkeling trip – they take you to three large reefs. The trip itself was good, however the staff on the trip were very very helpful. My Wife panicked at the first stop and had to get back on to the boat. She isn't the strongest swimmer. One of the guides, then came back out with us and made my wife feel more comfortable. He made sure she was ok throughout the whole excursion.
Finally I have to mention the manta point. We went to the manta point every night. It was a fantastic site, watching the Mantas swim by. One night we had 7 manta’s together.

We had booked to stay at the new centara ras fushi resort but were let down at the last minute and subsequently moved to Olhuveli. We were a little concerned at first because centara is a brand new resort and olhuveli did look a bit tired on the photos.Dont let this put you off,we can all find faults if we want to we just didnt bother because we had such a fantastic holiday and the time just flew by. The speedboat trip from the airport took 50 mins and was great fun although a little bumpy now and again, check in was a joy...they sit you at tables in the shade where you fill in all the relevant forms and then escort you to your rooms ,no queuing no jostling just peace and harmony from the first minute you arrive.
The rooms themselves were adequate a little dark maybe with a nice large bathroom (shower only in the beach vllas) with a fairly comfortable four poster bed (too hard for my personal taste) with flat screen tv(we never turned it on!!) tea and coffee making facilities and air con plus ceiling fan.
Leading out from the room at the rear is a a small terrace with a wonderful shaded area with table/ chairs and a exterior double sun bed ....heaven in the afternoon when temps reach the 90s...it does get extremely hot so
beware ,we used factor 30 then moved down to 15 after a week.
The hotel itself was wonderful but not 5 star, what it lacks in finnesse it certainly makes up for with the surroundings, wonderful blue seas where you can walk out for half a mile and the water doesnt even cover your knees...bliss.
The food we found to be excellent, with a good all round choice. We were on AI so only dined in the buffet everynight but do be aware drinks are expensive and between four of us the bar bill would have amounted to over $5000 for 9 nights(you cannot take alcohol into the Maldives it will be confiscated at the airport)A little tip if you like wine, the hotel house wines include chablis/pinot noir but you have to ask for it or youll get the boxed wine!! The hotel has a relaxed dining code smart casual..smart shorts accepted.
We found all the staff to be warm and friendly especailly at the sunset bar where everyone was exceptional non more so than Arun and young Ali(although he supports Man Utd).
Our room was on the sunset side of the hotel which we thought was quieter with nicer beaches and if you walk to the very end of the beach and sit in the last concrete jetty the amount of sea life was amazing ,just be patient...we saw rays, turtles, small sharks and conga eels etc etc all with a lovely breeze.(best spot for sun bathing without a bed)As suggested before ,dont miss the rays at night at the end of the pier near the snorkeling centre, usually about 2100 ...great to watch.
On the whole we had a wonderful time and would go back without hesitation, its the first holiday where weve never used our sunbeds or ipods we just ventured out and explored the island

Room Tip: The far end where the staff quarters are can be quite noisy with a persistant hum from a generator s...

First impressions ...WOW - this like many was our first trip to the maldives - also like many this was our honeymoon.
Every thing you expect from the desert island fantasy is here, clear warm waters, clear blue sky, white sand beaches, there is an actual deserted island just off the sunrise side of the island (well really a sandbank with palm trees) but still a great oppotunity to fulfill one of lifes little fantasies, if you can bring yourself to explore all this place has to offer.
Staff
Everyone pleasant, happy to assit & cater to our requirments.
Accomodation
We opted for the water jacuzzi villa & were not disapointed - serviced every day morning & evening turn down service, good quality fixtures & fittings - fantastic jacuzzi with the sunset & beer in hand.
Food
Like most opted for the AI option which was fantastic - lots of choice great local fish & curry options.
Bars & Pools
Spent most of our time at the sunrise pool despite the Dhoni being the nearest - fantastic views mornings & Dhoni for evening sunsets
Watersports
All team members cheerful & pleasant - great choice of activities
Spa
Superb - couple of treatments over the few weeks at the resort - quite expensive - but worth it.
Thompson travel rep (Concy, i think)
Very knowledgable, any thing we needed to know he had the answer - has hints & tips for every thing to do with the island.

Me and my fiancee were on this island from the 1st-10th March 2013 and have mixed reviews. It is the 4th island i personally have been to in the Maldives. We were suppose to go to a new island Fushi Centara but it had not opened on time so got moved here.

SERVICE:
Considering it's meant to be 5* was extremely poor at times. A certain staff member walked past us when we spoke to him asking for a table & he ignored us looking straight at us & then told another staff member to deal with us. We sometimes had to wait a long time to get served at the bar & had to go up to the bar ourselves which in a 5* resort you expect the service to be better. Even though we were english & spoke clearly we had to repeat our drinks up to 3 times sometimes and they would still come wrong. The All inclusive options were ok but a bit poor, you picture yourself on holiday with fresh juices, cocktails and none of these are on the AI option and cost $8 for fresh juice & cocktails $12-$20 without tax & service included! So we spent around £300 on food/drinks having a treat meal & cocktail every now and then. The Dhoni bar where we spent most of our day chilling out on the sunbeds by the pool again service could be better. You have to go the bar to order most of the time & our glasses from the morning were often not cleared away until later on in the afternoon. Our waiter at the sunset AI restaurant though was very good he was called 'Shareef' and looked after us very well, always smiling.

FOOD:
There was always a good range of food and it was of a very good standard but i feel the desserts could be better the cakes were often quite bland tasting but i just put lot's of chocolate sauce on them so made it better!

ACCOMMODATION:
We had a deluxe beach villa & it was not as good as other islands i have been on. It was nice but the rooms/bathroom were a bit dark and the bathroom was a lot smaller then other resorts i have stayed at. The bed was lovely and very comfortable. We were ground floor.....You have neighbours above you and next to you so you have to be lucky with who your next to. We occasionally had noisey neighbours as there are a lot of chinese people on the island and they like to shout a lot. Most of the time though it was peaceful. The island as others have said did feel quite quiet a lot of the time which was nice. Room was cleaned x2 daily but he never seemed to wipe our bathroom side?? The same grime marks were there all week as we wanted to see if he would wipe it but he didn't.

LOCATION:
You are in the Maldives so of course it is perfect! The beach was beautiful and always very well maintained as were the gardens and grounds. Snorkelling wasn't the best i have experienced as there was only one section for snorkelling but it was still good and a lot of the time it is luck as to what you see. I saw someone wrote they were with dolphins and we were on the beach on this day and saw them swimming along the reef edge jumping out of the water. Saw a few sting rays in the lagoon area.

Spa:
Had x2 massages, a bit pricey $95 for 1 hour aromatherapy. But i guess you are in the Maldives. Beautiful spa though.

We did complain about the service ti the food & bev manager 'Kay'. He was very good & gave us a free meal at the non AI restaurant. HOWEVER we went there and the chefs started fighting and one was chacing the other down the jetty!!!! VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!!!! We went staright back to Kay and walked out the restaurant as were not comfortable with this happening in front of us. The members of staff we were told were sacked for their actions. We were due to go home the next day so instead of a meal we got a free extended room late checkout.

We were suppose to get the boat at 6pm but it had been moved to 8pm. No one bothered to inform us though so we ended up sat in reception waiting around. Obviously our AI ended so we had to pay for our dinner then and any drinks. Communictation in the reception area of the resort could definitely be better. If you complained about something and they felt uncomfortable they just laughed at you which wasn't very good.

The sunset fishing trip was very good and we really enjoyed that. Would we go back?? To that island? No. The Maldives though- yes.

Room Tip: Not near the end where staff rooms/generator is
