“Paradise Setting - good for babies and toddlers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2013

Compared to out previous visit to the Maldives, the setting around the resort, in terms of the calm and crystal blue water and the house reef was simple stunning. Not a sound of a sea plane to be heard - it was just so peaceful. The beach and soft white sand was luxury. Very relaxing.

We took our baby girl with us who enjoyed the baby pool. The staff were only too kind and helpful especially with our little girl. There were plenty of other couples with babies and toddlers there too. Although there were many honeymoon couples, the resort is large enough that they can hide themselves away if need be.

We didn't go all inclusive and in the end - despite drinking a fair few champage cocktails, ordering a bottle of champage, having several massages and also dinner on the beach our bill worked out roughly 10% more than what we would have paid if we had gone all in. The seafood BBQ on the beach is highly worth it. It includes a bottle of champage too and lots of incredibly fresh seafood which you cook yourself.

The food was good for the most part, not as good as where we stayed before, but good none the less.

We were in the beach villas - which were 2 rooms upstairs and 2 rooms downstairs. These rooms were nice, a little dated, but nice however the marbles tiles had pot holes in them which had not been filled up so I caught my toe on it a few times and not great with a little one crawling around.

The spa was ok - for me the balinese massage was the best. The other massages were not as good and seemed a little rushed. My wife got a shiro dhara massage and was not given her full time and did it in the wrong order. When she complained the masseuse claimed she had got the full time and nothing was wrong however that was not right so I complained and they then rectified the matter by reducing the cost of her massage.

Its an expensive resort, compared to where we stayed previously but I don't think anything can beat the setting of the resort and the fact they were so helpful with a little one around made it all the better.

To start off, we booked this trip for our honeymoon and the maldives is a place I have always wanted to visit, and with the price ticket that comes with it, probably one I will not get to do again!

The resort looked exactly as it did in the photos, or even better, with the most beautiful shallow sea!

Room:
We were in Room 263 which was a Deluxe room, which are blocks of 4 apartments, 2 up 2 down. We were on the 2nd floor with a lovely balcony overlooking the lagoon side (sunrise) of the island. The views were fantastic and out of this world - it took us a couple of days to believe we were actually there as it was so beautiful! Our room seems to have the best view as we noticed many other blocks were hidden by palm trees so they would not have had the same view of the lagoon as us. Each balcony has a table and 2 chairs, and a day bed. Inside our room was a lovely four poster super kind size bed. The mattress was very firm but we like this and it was very good for our backs! The pillows were very comfortable. There is a flatscreen tv in the room and also a day bed at the end again - so 3 beds in total!
The only let down was our bathroom. It was very dated with horrible tiling and could be smelly at times. I thought this was a shame as all other rooms on the island had nice bathrooms with slate tiling, even the swimming pool and restaurant toilets we much much nicer than our own bathroom!
We had seen other people's water villas and thought it would be nice to upgrade as they were amazing, but apart from the toilet and being able to step straight into the sea, I felt that our room and view was as good as theres. If you have a chance to upgrade for a couple of days then go for it as we would have if there were any free!)

Pool:
We never really used the pools to sunbathe around as they were busier than the beach. Occassionally we went to the sunrise pool for a swim and a drink which was more chilled out. The infinity pool was amazing and we would go for the odd swim here but it was always busy at this pool!

Beach:
The beach was fantasic, especially the sunset side of the island. The sea on the lagoon side is nice and calm but the beach is not as nice, the sand is coarser and hurts your feet. The sunset side is definitely better, the sea is beautiful and you can access the reef this side. The sand is powder soft and there is a slight breeze to keep you cool! Our favourite spot was the top of the island right by the four spices restaurant. There never seems to be many people on the beach or out at all, even when the island is at full capacity! I don't know where people go! It is perfect as sometimes it felt like you had the whole beach/sea to yourself! A great opportunity to get some amazing photos! There never seemed to be a lack of sunbeds which was a plus!

Food:
The food was amazing and we never had the same thing twice in the entire 2 weeks we were there - we thought after a week the food would rotate but it didn't! The theme nights rotated weekly but the second week it was different things to the first week. One of our favourite nights was the Maldivian night - they had amazing curries! This is their speciality obviously and it was amazing. Italian night is also a must!
Sitting out on the decking in candle light for dinner was lovely.
Lunch was also lovely and you could sit out on the decking overlooking the sea. The sushi was our favourite and we are not usually a fan. You could get fresh sushi every day and the fish just melted in your mouth!
lagoon restaurant: disappointed with this as we had a 3 course dinner here as part of our honeymoon deal. There was no choice of food, the menu was completely set. My partner stuggles with some fish and the main was tuna and no meat option. It was nice food but every other couple on their honeymoon was having their meal too, there was no music and the atmosphere was lacking. It also took around half an hour to get a drink, and we were served our started before we got our drinks. We found this happened quite a lot and we would have liked to get our drink before we eat! For this meal I think the resort should make it more romantic and make it feel like it is just you two and no one else!
four spices: We paid to go to the ala carte restaurant and it was definitely worth it. The portions were good and the food amazing. This restaurant is set over the sea and they like the sea up so you can see all the fish, sharks and stingrays that are attracted!

Trips
We were quite lazy on this holiday as we wanted pure chill out! The only trip we went on was the sunset and dolphin cruise and it was worth it! There is only a 50% chance of seeing dolphins and we know other couple who didn't see any but we saw about 50! YOu also get a glass of champagne and canapes - not the best but a nice touch! We were so thrilled about seeing so many dolphins we thought the trip was priceless.

SPA
We had an hour head, back and neck massage and it was amazing. The women that work in there was thai, india and indonesian so the massages are amazing and they know what they are doing! My husband doesn't usually like massages but once he had one he was addicted!

Room boy
We never saw our room boy but the room was always cleaned morning and night. Even if we put do not disturb in the morning and missed him, whenver we would go out, be that 12 noon, he would come back and do it so it was done when we got back in the afternoon. In the evening there was a turn down service which was lovely as your room would be clean, bed sheets folded back ready for bed. You also got brand new beach towels every day - a real plus if you are tight on space in your suitcase!

Reef
The reef was amazing and we spend most days here. Make sure you take a good snorkelling set as it costs a lot to hire them. No need to go scuba diving as you can swim over the same areas as the scuba divers are for free. The sea is very shallow and then you hit the reef and can see amazing fish. The reef them drops down to the depth of the sea and it feels like your are flying over the reef. You can see sharks, stinky rays, manta rays, eels, and numerous amounts of brightly coloured fish.

Our favourite touches:
The management party on a wednesday and saturday. You get an invite to this every week and you get free cocktails from 6:30pm -7pm. They are amazing and it's lovely to have them as they are not included in the AI package. It is also lovely to socialise with the other people and staff on the island. we aren't usually very sociable but we made loads of friends!

Negatives: More needs to be included in the AI package. The holiday is so expensive and it would be nice to include cocktails and maybe a meal a week at the ala carte restauarant, free watersports, the usual things you expect in an AI package - but the maldives do not seem to supply that. We spend around £400 on extra which isn't that bad but we only had 1 meal out, a massive, and a dolphin trip. It is a one off trip so we did it but you can see how it could easily add up to thousands. We would have done more trips but some of them seemed extortionate, to put it into perspective, the sandbank island trip for a day was $2000 pp! yes per person! which was breakfast, lunch, dinner, massage and a cruise, all based around a sandbank in the middle of the sea. Sounds lovely but I don't understand how this price can be justified!

Tip for the girls - don't take any high heels! nearly everywhere is sand and all you need is flip flops!

Look out for: The fruit bats! they are in the trees near the sunrise bar and they are amazing! they are massive and swoop over the trees and hang in the frees eating the berries.

Recommened:
Watching the sunset at the Dhoni bar. We did this most evenings. Get there early to get nibbles at 'happy hour' and watch the sun go down, the pool is empty and it is very romantic. The sun sets are out of the world and you can get some amazing photos!

Sandbanks - when the tide is low, you can walk about a mile out into the sea - no exaggeration. The sandbanks are our past the jacuzzi water villas and presidential suites. You can just keep walking from sand bank to sand bank until the island is just a distance place! not many people seem to do it, maybe they are scared! but it was amazing and i don't know where else in the world you can do it! the sea is shallow and completely protected by the reef. The sea is very shallow even when the tide comes in, but when the tie is low the sea bed forms little sandbank islands. You feel like you have your own private island and it is amazing!

Camera tip: Underwater camera is a must - buy one just for the trip if you have to!

I am sure I could go on and on about how great this place is but you need to just go yourself! If you are debating whether to spend this much on a holiday (like I did!), then stop thinking and book it! You won't regret it!

Room Tip: Room 263 top floor has stunning views overlooking the lagoon. However the bathroom is a bit of a let...

Firstly, SIMPLY GOD'S WORK AT ITS BEST!
Maldives is an awesome place and I say it a must visit for everyone. No matter how you go, as a couple, friends, family, it is guaranteed to be a great trip!
We stayed at Olhuveli Beach Resort and just loved it there!
The place is exactly as seen in the photos here!! :) And in fact it is better...
We stayed for 4 nights, 2nights at Beach Villa and 2 nights at Jacuzzi water Villa. The rooms are well kept and management was up to date in house keeping. We had no complains, simply perfect!
The service of the staff is very friendly and helpful. They are prompt and fast. And try to do their best.
The food was very good. More of European style cuisine. So if Indians plan to go, don't expect the spicy tasty touch in food. And especially forget the "roti sabzi" menu. But nonetheless the food was good, with good variety and changing menu everyday. We read a lot about water being expensive, and they used to give 2litres complimentary everyday. Plus if you were to buy a water extra it would cost you about INR 100 per litre. We had taken an AI (All inclusive) package. They include your meals, water and beverages, except the cocktails and certain special drinks, and you having meal at a non-buffet restaurant. One can go for Half board plan too. It would cost about USD 30 per person per meal. Though I must say there is scope for improvement in this segment for the hotel as far as deciding the menu is considered.

The island and the property and excellent! The house reef is fantastic! Its a live Discovery channel! We got to see Lion fish at the jetty itself! We got to see many sting rays and reef sharks! Probably the turtles were the only ones missing in the house reef! Those who are very much into snorkeling should get their own equipment and come, that would save you some dollars.
We also went for snorkeling safari. They took us to three different reefs, and yes the corals were beautiful there! We saw turtles there... Snorkeling safari is a must for any one who visits Maldives.
We wanted to go for Submarine drive, an excursion at this resort in which they take you deep under water in an actual submarine. But it is a little costly, and there were not sufficient people enrolled for the activity, and the staff had to cancel it. We missed this...

The island is simply perfect, with a small island near by, where one can go by canoeing or sailing! The beach is maintained and cleaned properly. The every night events are great chill out and fun. I would suggest to have some beach side sports also to be encouraged and arranged by the Olhuveli team. It can add more fun and joy to the stay.

We had a great experience and a beautiful stay at Olhuveli and we recommend anyone to go for it! We have beautiful memories and we thank the Olhuveli team for their great service. There is a lot more great things and experience to share, but its not possible to have it in words... Just go there to enjoy it!! :)

Room Tip: For Beach Villas, you can choose any! For Jacuzzi Water Villas you can try for those on the father s...

We had our first experience of the Maldives at the Olhuveli Spa Resort, courtesey of friends, the Island is a complete paradise, we stayed in a jacuzzi villa, and dipped in the cool waters on a regular basis. You are greeted from your speed boat on the jetty by very friendly staff offering you a nice cool towel. The villas are superb and have every thing you need, hairdryer, mini bar, etc. We were with 12 friends and joined up for breakfast, dinner and evening meals not necessary all together all the time, we all had the most amazing holiday at the Olhuveli, drinks to finish the night off in the Dhoni bar. Watch the fish under the villa on our return late in the evening, and also a trip down to the diving centre to watch the huge Manta Rays, a sight not to be missed. The most relaxing holiday we ever had. The staff were lovely, and really greeted you well on all occasions (meals etc). Our room attendant was a very friendly and smiley young man called Amjahd, he dressed out our bed in an amazing and very artistic way with real petals and his designs with towels were unbelievable (very clever) and a very nice young man. All in all our holiday at the Olhuveli was fantastic, and we had no complaints at all. Our friends had an amazing time doing cannoeing, snorkeling, etc. My partner and I who were a lot older than our friends just enjoyed the relaxation of this island, we were all inclusive, and the food was to die for, no complaints there. We had the very first water villa (301) so were almost next to the Four spices restaurant, were we enjoyed a superb breakfast every morning, the chef there prepared me the most delicious plate of fresh fruits to finish off after our cooked breakfast. You could not fault this place as far as we were concerned, if only we could visit again soon, I wish. Thank you Olhuveli, and thank you to our other friends who also made it amazing. And a big thank you to the two who made it possible Ross and Ali.

Points in order of how strongly I felt about them:
- room: we had deluxe room on the sunrise side. The view was beautiful and only steps away from the beach, BUT the room was in desperate need of an update. Green mould in bathroom, disgusting shower curtain, very smelly drains, the loo which kept leaking water.. We actually changed from another room where the smell of drains was totally unbearable. However, it seems to be a common problem, at least for deluxe rooms. We saw the jacuzzi water villas which were better , and the water villas which were also pretty grim... The bath tub in the water villa was brownish in colour from how old it was
+ the setting is amazing. It was my first time in Maldives and it was exactly how you imagine it looking at pictures.. Youll have your white sand and your crystal clear water
- all inclusive: only includes basic spirits and VERY AWFUL house wine, no cocktails.. We ended up running up a bill for extra drinks..
+ food is good, both in the buffet restaurant and the four spices. Good variety, plenty of fresh fruits and veg. But please please management, remove the evil lady who tells you off for taking chips from the kids section. Seriously, just make enough chips
+ service is good, everyone is really friendly and helpful
+ swimming pools are very nice, beach is long and wide and you always find space
+ water sports are a nice extra: not cheap, but you can snorkel or windsurf or kite surf etc etc
+ spa is beautiful but the staff need training.. They don't leave the room when you get on the massage table and don't give you a few mins to relax after massage which is the done thing normally..
+ they organise weekly drinks by the sunset for all guests - nice touch
Overall, we had a wonderful time and really enjoyed the stay. But when I ask myself if I would come back, I'd say no. I will come back to the Maldives, but to a different hotel, mainly because the room really wasn't great and the mould was a deal breaker for me.
