“Honeymoon Heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2010

After a wonderfully busy week in Sri Lanka, my husband and I were really looking forward to a week on a perfect 'Desert Island' to complete our honeymoon. I have to say it surpassed all expectations, and our expectations were pretty high. It's too difficult to list every reason why this resort is so wonderful because it is every single perfect detail that makes your experience a good one. However, highlights have to be the exclusivity of Cocoa (although the island is tiny you never feel like there are very many people around) and the out of this world service from staff and management. We also loved being able to snorkel off the back of our room, our scuba diving experiences and the food, which was some of the best food i've ever tasted (and the most expensive!). Our experience at Cocoa was faultless; we had the most amazing honeymoon and came away with some fantastic memories.

Should you ever be stranded on an island, let it be on Cocoa Island. Its a paradise island with all that you need. I have long heard and seen pictures of Maldive. Had often thought that they were too good to be true until my stay at Cocoa Island. Though a tiny island where one could walk from one end to another in less than 20mins, you can still never get enough of it. Apart from the spectacular view and unbelievable marine life right below your deck, literally, its certainly the cosiness and homeliness one feel while on the island. You do not feel that you are in a hotel but at home, away from home. The staff did an amazing job to make their guests feel so comfortably at home that you can truly feel relax. The wellness program including healthy foods thoughtfully designed, daily yoga classes, unparrelled Como Shambala spa treatment and the therapeutic hydro-pool, will rejuvenate and renew you by the time you leave. It's such a wonderful feeling to feel pampered and doted upon. We recommend this resort to anyone who wants to nurse their soul and renew their body and spirit. The serene and surreal surrounding will truly make you feel you are in paradise, except that it's real. We will definitely be back.

We stayed on Cocoa Island for 5 amazing nights and I cannot speak highly enough about it. We found the room/staff and island more than we could imagine. We did not do much and that suited us very well, lazing around and a lot of snorkelling, the coral/sealife right at the island was fantastic. We found the staff to be unobtrusive but the service was excellent with the room being cleaned twice a day and new towels/coffee/fruit available. The meals were also a highlight of the trip. From being picked up at Male to being dropped off at the airport everything was looked after for us. An amazing trip.

This delightful resort is very well-run, which is hardly surprising, seeing that it's owned by Singaporean Christina Ong and managed by Singaporean GM Felix Yeo. Efficiency is evident from reception at the airport, through the check-in at the resort to the eventual departure.
Understated elegance appears to be the theme on this island and the island has a pervasive sense of serenity.
Service on the whole is faultless and the staff are genuinely friendly.
Cocoa Island has easy access to a good number of dive sites (all within 30 minutes boat ride). We enjoyed 2 of the best dives ever during our stay: Cocoa Thila (shark cleaning station, challenging current) and Sand Dune (45 minutes of being up close and personal to Manta rays). We were pampered by the boat crew on all our dives and the DIs were knowledgeable and professional.
'Cost of living' on the island commensurates with the exclusivity of having just 33 rooms on the entire resort.

We decided on Cocoa Island after reading all the fantastic reviews on Trip Advisor.
We arrived in Male around 9 am and then once thru customs we were whisked away on a private covered boat with one other couple staying at Cocoa Island. We arrived before check in and our room was ready. Just in case the room wasn’t ready I had pre-booked a massage an hour and half before check in. We in turn did have time to go to our room which was a one bed-room villa ( Rm 1001) to unpack and relax before I went off for my treatment. This was heavenly. I can’t express enough how wonderful the treatments are here at Cocoa Island. It set the holiday off to a great start and I had 2 more during my one week stay with my husband joining me for the massage they offer for couples. Lovely.
The room was spacious and well appointed and the bathroom was huge. The decks on the one bedroom villas are very large as well. We had two rocking chairs, a small table for eating with 2 more chairs, as well as the prerequisite sun loungers with umbrella. Steps led down to the blue water and a short swim out to the house reef.
The coral was not the best on this house reef but the marine life was top notch. This was our third trip to the Maldives and it had terrific snorkelling. We did the catamaran snorkelling with our own private guide and went to an untouched coral reef teeming with marine life. We both loved this excursion and it is well worth it. We also did the speedboat snorkelling trip further away to an even more pristine reef but the marine life wasn’t as abundant but the coral was beautiful. The marine life here was a bit more unusual but less of it. We brought along with us two Canon Ixus 100 with underwater housing and this made underwater photography easy. (see pics) Beware of the huge titan fish.
The restaurant was great with stunning views over the pool and on to the sea. The food was good and would recommend the BBQ night. There were lots of fresh seafood to choose from including huge prawns and lobsters. The smoothies were delicious and the cocktails drinks in the bar were terrific and also very strong!
We did go to the huge water spa and this was also a great way to chat with other guests. My husband used the gym and he loved it. The daily yoga was also a big plus. All included.
The only negative about this resort is that there is an island that is not very attractive across the sand spit side (the side of the even numbered one bedroom villas) of the island that’s lit up at night and that it sits off of a thru way to Male. If you do go for one of the four one bedroom villas go for 1001 or 1003. These face another island resort along with all the other water dhonis and have a much better view.
The staff was absolutely great. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they made our stay unforgettable. All in all I would recommend Cocoa Island.
We really got the snorkelling bug with our new camera’s and have just booked Mirihi for March 201. I read on Trip Advisor that the reef and snorkelling are fantastic there. I love the Maldives.

I hv to say my Cocoa Island experience was simply magical. As a lover of boutique hotels, this place exceeded all expectations, with a team of staff that were warm, down to earth, personable & friendly. At the same time, I barely felt their presence - same goes for the other guests….I really felt like we had the whole island to ourselves which was fabulous, exclusive yet not at all snobby or pretentious.

Couple of examples of how the staff went out of their way to take care of us during our stay:
(i) I had a touch of food poisoning upon arrival & was unable to really eat anything. On their own initiative, the staff offered to specially whip up some chicken soup with fresh veggies (not offered on the menu) and it was the absolute perfect thing for my upset stomach. Was very grateful to the chef.

(ii) My boyfriend had plans to propose & needed a guitar to serenade me, however a string broke when he tried to tune it beforehand. Without hesitation, they rushed all the way back into town (45min boat ride) to pick up a new string for him! Special mention that the management team really went out of their way to help my bf in his plans to surprise me with the engagement (they all kept his secret for at least 3 days!) - which I think sets them apart from many other hotels & resorts.

To sum up, I highly recommend our Rm 830 as it was ideally located very close to the coral - perfect for daily snorkeling (you really can see so much marine life - its incredible) and it's also on the right side of e island, for you to catch the sunset. The Como Shambala massage was excellent, same goes for the Como range of toiletries - smells heavenly so don't bother bringing your own stuff.

Will definitely return one day. And having the GM remember my name makes it easy to choose Cocoa Island again! :)

Final quick note - we used "Atoll Paradise" for our transfers to & fro and were very happy with their service. We got a really decent deal, $100 voucher each day plus complimentary Airport Lounge free passes!
