We visited The Water Villas for the second week of our two week honeymoon. Simply put it is absolute paradise.

From the moment we got there we were made to feel special. We got a sea taxi from Male and as soon as you land you are picked up by buggy and taken to the Water Villa reception where you are given a lovely welcome drink and towels to cool down. You are then taken to your room where you meet your personal 24hr butler (Nelson) and he shows you around the room and opens the already chilled bottle of Moet. After filling in a few forms he then took us on a tour of the rest of the island (Meedhupparu). This place is a dump unfortunately, but i am writing a separate review for it. We didn't need to visit the rest of the island often, apart from using the gym and the diving centre.

We were on a half board basis, which meant breakfast and dinner. Breakfast can literally be served at any time of the day, and we would normally go around 12/12.30 for an hour or so. You can also have it delivered to your room at no extra cost, but this wasn't what we wanted to do. You can choose between a large selection of freshly squeezed juices (mango, papaya, pineapple, orange, etc etc). It takes them 15 mins to prepare them as they literally do it from scratch. Then we would choose a bread basket, cheese platter, fried eggs, scrambled eggs, poached eggs, all with smoked salmon if you wanted. You could also choose tuna steaks, beef steaks, waffles and pancakes. And a fruit platter to end with. You can also order a traditional Maldivian breakfast (curry), but this has to be ordered the night before as it takes the chef 4 hours to cook. It would easily keep you going until dinner time. It was something to look forward to each morning.

For dinner it would be a 5 course meal (including sorbet). Each day you are given a menu with the columns. Every day the column on the left would be replaced with a new column on the right with new selections of food. Therefore meaning you know what you can choose from for the next 2/3 nights. There are 3 to choose from for your starter, soup and dessert course, and 6 items to choose from for your main course (3 fish and 3 meat). The food is absolutely stunning and some of the best we have ever eaten. It was presented beautifully and cooked to perfection. Apparently the chef has won awards and it is clear to see why. Every evening we would order a difference bottle of wine, with the cheapest starting from around $34, which is quite steep. However, considering this was all we spent each day we weren't to bothered, and quite enjoyed listening to the Sommeliers advice on certain bottles of wine. On our last evening we were offered to have our final meal on the beach. This was a lovely touch and we were also given a lovely bottle of red free of charge to celebrate. The perfect end to a perfect stay.

The room itself is beautiful. Not big, but everything is perfectly done. The bed is huge and looks straight out to the open sea. There is an LCD TV with DVD player and surround sound. You can borrow films from reception also, which was nice. The sun deck consists of a table and chairs, sun bed and Jacuzzi. All of them overlooking the crystal clear water. The room was cleaned twice a day and was kept sparkling. Every day at 6pm your butler would come round with canapés and every night when returning from the evening meal there would be 4 little chocolates. The bathroom was lovely and has a rain shower. They supply shower gel and shampoo, and you have a his and hers sink and mirror.

The Water Villas resort is cut off from the rest of the island and the 'normal' guests aren't allowed to come in. There is a lovely stretch of beach just for the Water Villas guests, an infinity pool, gardens (with tree house), Spa area, and the exclusive restaurant. When we were there we were told up to 17 of the 20 rooms were occupied. You would never have known as the beach was always empty, as was the pool. So at times it felt as though it was our own resort. This is true relaxation and something that the rest of Meedhupparu simply cannot get anywhere near recreating. The fact that they offer 'tours' to the normal guests shows just how good the Water Villas are. When you see people on a tour each day it really reminds you of how special the place makes you feel.

I did 2 dives with the dive school. They come across as slightly arrogant and unfriendly but weren't too bad on the actual dives. Each dive with full equipment hire comes to $112 roughly, which isn't too bad, and is a similar price to what i have paid before in the Maldives. On talking to one of the dive guys there doesn't appear to be a huge amount to see in this Atoll. On the 2 dives that i did we didn't see anything 'big', but the corals were pretty.

We used the gym facilities most days, which is free. Although the equipment is looking a little tired there was a decent selection of machines to use. Air con worked well in there which is needed in 30 degree heat.

This is now our 5th resort in 4 years (Summer Island, Kuredu, Meeru, Kuramathi and Meedhupparu) so please let us know if you have any questions about comparisons and recommendations.

In summary this place is absolutely stunning, everything about it is perfect and you are treated like royalty. Easily the best place we have visited in the Maldives. We wouldn't normally go back to a resort we've been to before, but this place would definitely be the exception.

Yes, the water villas are great and even the beach bungalows on that island arent bad. But be aware, the dive center rips you off.
E.g. if you want to make just one dive it costs approx 110US$. They force you to make a check you have to pay for it. They force you to sign a 3 weeks insurance (no matter how long you stay), Charge for boat, tank, etc. Plus a general service charge on top.... adds up to ca. 110US$!!!. Yes, they do offer you slightly beeter prices for package deals, but in either case, thats the most expensive in the Maledives I have ever seen. But not the best, its a normal dive center with a tendency to arrogance. So, if you go to the Maledives to dive, just take another island. You definitely find better and much cheaper places. If you dont go for any diving one can consider the island.

  • Disliked — Dive Center, separation of the 2 different hotels on the island, wave breaker (ugly wall from concrete)

I would like to explain what the Scuba Team is doing now.

I can guarantee that the actual team is friendly and very professional, personally I went several times for dive with them (it is an outsource company) and the attention that they give to our guest is great, they give a real personal attention to every single guest, since I am working here I had only nice comments from the actual team, It is true that now we are in 2012 and your comment was 4 years ago, but from my point of view come to Maldives and don't make snorkeling with mantas and scuba diving is a crime.

A single dive by boat, if you have your own gear is less than 80$ incl. SC and GST, prices per dive drop from 6 dives, from 12 dives and so on

A Check Dive is a normal dive including 2 skills, and charged as a normal dive

They offer insurance via DAN as an extra Service, if people do not have Insurances that cover diving. This is Non Profit, and 18.66 $ for up to 3 weeks incl SC and GST

Seriously: They provide guided dives with normally groups to a maximum of 6 guests per guide, to make sure everybody is safe and has fun, in other Dive Centers you pay extra for this e.g.

We have been planning our Honeymoon for a long time..We went through several options covering almost all the famous honeymoon destinations in the world but finally decided on Maldives which happens to be quite close to India. Actually, that was one of the deciding factors. We wanted to minimize travel as much as possible...and boy, am I glad we chose this divine place!

Once we froze on maldives, I spent a further 3 months on deciding on the right resort..my fiance called me paranoid, but I was quite determined to make our HM as close to perfect as possible! :)

Oh..and how my efforts paid off...we had the most perfect HM that we could have ever hoped for! Adaaran Prestige was nothing short of paradise! I just have to close my eyes to feel the gentle sound of the sea lapping the shores. Its was so peaceful and private that sometimes the only sound you can hear is the sea and your partner's voice! amazing isnt it?

Adaaran is part of Meedhupparu island. Its sectioned off from the main island and has been created into a five star property. It has 20 water villas with 2 villas built into one cottage. But not to worry...you wont be disturbed at all by the adjoining villa. total privacy is guaranteed on that front.

You reach the island itself via sea plane and the journey was amazing. Its my first trip on a sea plane and I loved every moment of it (well not the stomach churning part) . You get to see scores of small islands from your plane and you can also spot several resorts with their water villas spread out enticingly.

You get an excellent reception at the resort with a VIP check in and a golf buggy to escort you through to the reception. You are allocated your butler who shows you around the resort and your villa explianing all the facilities provided for your benefit. Start your holiday with the complimentary champagne. (we, unfortnately are teetotallers)

Facilities/pluses that caught my attention:

1) Probably one of the few resorts in Maldies which provides butler service..makes you feel pampered really - Our butler/friend Julian was amazing. Thanks Julian- for making our stay extra perfect.

2)A jacuzzi in the back balcony - although make sure you get a villa in the middle as the villas in the extremes dont have privacy in the balconies. One can see you in your jacuzzi from the restaurant or the 'fish-feeding'pier too easily.

3) Private sea water infinity pool - i say private because at any point of time, you will be able to see only a handful of people around...unlike the meedhupparu pool which is always full.

4) Beautiful view from your balcony - you can see a dozen small uninhabited islands and then just blue-green ocean everywhr.

5) amazing restaurant- we are vegetarians and the chef went out of his way to cook us vegetarian delights which were not a part of the menu. Btw..the set menu happens to be more costly than a la carte.. ;)

6) good snorkelling - i read in several reviews that most resorts do not have good coral. prestige water villas scores well on that front. You can see scores of fish from above just while walking from the restaurant to your villa. particulalry at night when the lights are on near the stilts, you can see several beautiful fish swimming around quite busily .

Btw, dont miss out on the pet manta rays that have made the waters under the restaurant their home. We also enjoyed the massage facilities by going in for a couple massage which cost us 250 USD . This was a 90 min massage including body massage and hot stone massage.

We also went for a snorkelling excursion. Although we both cant swim well, we enjoyed the excursion immensely. WE used life jackets to stay afloat and kept close to the excursion guide.. let me tell you, the snorkelling excursion was one of the best things I had done in my life. The first dip i took into the sea and saw about a thousand fish floating to my left....I will never forget that moment in my life. I recommend everyone to take this trip, costs just 25 USD a person. The trip lasts about an hour.

Also, pls make sure you go to maldives in the peak season..although its expensive, its worthwhile. You dont want to be going there in the monsoon and face a chopping sea where you cant enjoy good snorkelling. We had a day's rain during our trip (unseasonal, we were told) and it was obvious the sea had become dangerous!

There are several other little surprises that Prestige Water Villas puts in front of its pampered guests, and I think thats what they should be..surprises! So, I am keeping out several aspects of our stay which I think you should find out urself. :)

Ok, some readers might wonder why I havent pointed out even a single fault in this resort..maybe becoz i didnt find any! :) ok ok..let me think..if i try to be really really finicky, i would say a fresh water infinity pool in place of the salt water one would be cool!

If you have chosen Adaaran Prestige Water Villas as your destinatin, dont think twice! You have made a wonderful choice and enjoy your stay. we would love to go back there tomo if we can, but there are so many other places that we are yet to see in this world..and Maldives isnt that affordable unfortunately.. :(

I hope this review helps..and excuse a lack of good flow as I had written this in a hurry. This review has been long overdue...

  • Liked — the luxurious interiors and the 2 times a day cleaning service
  • Disliked — it rained for a day (unseasonal rain)- not the resort's fault really
