“Relaxing island experience, close to nature and locals”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2013

Great family experience in a beautiful location. We loved the authentic accommodation in island fares, the friendly service by management and staff, and the proximity to nature. Kim and Terry were the perfect hosts, and we enjoyed the lively discussions at mealtime. The diving and snorkelling was sublime, kayaking, caving and bushwalking was excellent, and we fell in love with the local villagers. Our two week visit was barely sufficient to experience all Moso Island had to offer.

My family and I stayed here for two weeks, and for us it definitely was our best holiday we have ever had. The views were stunning, and the water was crystal clear. There was amazing snorkelling right in front of the fares. Even better snorkelling spots were just a kayak away, and lunch was packed for us if we were out for the whole day. The managers Kim and Terry were fantastic company at meal times, and great diving instructors. You can see they put a lot of effort into the place, and I would recommend Tranquillity to anyone and everyone. I know I'm going back!

We have just spent a week relaxing on the island over Christmas and had a great time. The diving was wonderful with healthy corals, clear water and lots of tropical fish - seeing dugongs whilst snorkelling before breakfast was a bonus! The accomodation whilst basic was all we needed and the food was plentiful & tasty. Thanks to everyone for making our stay relaxing & fun.

We had been wanting to visit Tranquillity for several years. We weren't disappointed after our 7 night stay.

From our first contact on-line the office staff were excellent, facilitating the our booking process efficiently and promptly. We were met on schedule at the airport and taken to the office to finalise everything. We were taken to a supermarket to stock up on a few things and then transferred by road and boat to Moso Island and the resort.

On arrival we were welcomed by Kim and given a comprehensive briefing of how our stay was organised. We met Terry, Kim's husband, at dinner on the first night. They are excellent hosts and managers with a huge knowledge base of diving and the resort, which they were always keen to pass on to us. They ate all their meals with us and nothing was too much for them.

Our Fare was lovely with a reasonably comfortable bed and plenty of space for our belongings. The ensuite bathroom was adequate and the fare was cleaned daily and bed sheets were changed every 2 days. There is no air conditioning or ceiling fans but there is good ventilation with plentiful insect screened windows and door as well as a screened air gap between the walls and thatched roof. This ensures that every scrap of breeze can cool the fare down. The bed is also fully screened. We had no insect issues at all. Water to the fare is tank supplied and can run out, but with in a few minutes of letting Kim or Terry know, the back up supply was on line! Perfect!

For the divers, there is power in the evening and morning to enable batteries to be recharged and Terry ensured that our batteries had adequate time to recharge. There was only one double power point (three pin Australian style) in the bathroom, so we were pleased that we had a power board to plug our army of chargers in to! Each fare has it's own solar electricity for lighting 24/7. As the fares aren't lockable, Kim and Terry have a safe in their house if you need money etc., locked away. We didn't bother and our trust in the staff and other guests was vindicated.

Apart from dietary requirements, there was no choice of meals. All the meals were wonderful and different on a daily basis. Tasty, plentiful and fresh! Thomas and Douglas did a great job in the neat, clean kitchen at The Beach House and Hensley worked wonders with lunch on Island Diver, their dive boat.

The Hawksbill Turtle rookery was wonderful. The tanks are cleaned daily and it's great to see the obvious pride Kim and Terry ( Terry in particular has made them his project) have in this essential conservation project for this critically endangered species.

My partner and I are both fully qualified and experienced divers and have travelled widely to dive in some exotic locations. We can confidently say the diving offered around Moso is truely world class. From the easy Coral Gardens in front of the resort, the spectacular almost pristine corals of Owen's and Tabletop reefs, the thermal vents at Bottle Fish reef, the Moso Caves (caverns actually) and the two wrecks, the MV Belama at 20m and the MV Roimata at 40m and for only experienced divers, there is truly something for everyone. Terry and I are both qualified decompression divers and we made good use of these skills for 2 extended dives on the Roimata. The water was crystal clear and on our first two days, visibility was better than 40m! it was amazing to splash in and see the Roimata at 40m depth from the surface! Currents can be strong but there's plenty of coral to hide behind.

From a safety perspective, it was great to see a large oxygen cylinder, first aid kits and resuscitation kits on the boat. Briefings were thorough and safety a priority. Well done to Kim and Terry and DM Tommy for a great and safe dive experience.

Our only criticisms of the whole experience at Tranquillity is that the resort and dive operation needs an injection of cash. After a hard day diving, the only comfortable place to relax was on the bed. Some well padded cushions for the chairs would make a huge difference and wouldn't cost much money. Also, sadly, the lovely Island Diver has become quite run down. She needs new carpets. The existing are worn out, slippery and loose and have holes ready to trip you up. They are, in fact, quite dangerous. She also needs to be slipped, cleaned and repainted. I've been a boat owner for more than 30 years and I know that boat maintenance is not cheap. However, it's much preferable to the cost of replacing such an asset as Island Diver if it is allowed to deteriorate any further.

Would we go back and recommend to friends? Absolutely! We loved our time there.

I spent 4 days at the resort (19 to 22 November) and managed to get 7 dives done in that time. Kim and Terry are great hosts and Tommy is one of the better dive instructors I met on my many dive trips around the globe. If the opportunity arrives I will go back there for sure. Diving around Moso island is just great, dived the MV Belama, Owens Reef, Moso maze, Coral gardens the house reef a few times and an interesting cave dive.

Room Tip: The fares are right on the beach! Visibility was when I was there more then 30 meters.

Don't come here expecting luxury accommodation. This is not what this place is about. However, if you want some of the best ever snorkelling straight off your own private beach, with no-one else in sight, then come to Tranquility. We have snorkelled and dived at some of the best locations in the world and this is more than a match. Walk off your private beach and in less than a metre of water, you can see colourful corals and fish. Swim out a bit further and the variety and density of the coral is the best we have ever seen. Because this place is not on the mainland, the coral is undamaged by unwitting tourists and boat anchors.

We stayed in Fare 6 for five nights, which included ensuite toilet and shower. The Fare is basic, but clean with hot water and solar lighting. There is a bit of a walk to the Beach House (where food and drink are served), but it is a beautiful stroll through the trees, and what have you got to rush for? We loved walking back at night by torchlight, trying to avoid stepping on all the coconut crabs.

Food consists of simple and tasty home cooked meals and there is plenty of it. Any dietary requirements can be taken care of easily.

The hosts, Terry and Kim, are great people. Very welcoming and easy going and nothing is too much trouble for them. They won’t let you lift a finger to help. One day the regular cruise (Coongoola) to the island wasn’t running (because of elections on the mainland), so they packed their dive boat with a bbq picnic lunch and took all the guests (only seven of us at the time) round to the other side of the island for the day. It was lovely to have the entire beach to ourselves (half the group stayed on the beach, the other half took the boat out for a couple of dives).

Terry and Kim also maintain the turtle sanctuary on the island. A previous review mentions that the tanks smelled badly. We didn’t notice this and observed that the tanks were emptied and refilled every day. We, and the other guests, all had the amazing opportunity to take part in releasing turtles back into the ocean.

Tranquility Dive Resort is a relaxed and peaceful place with nothing to do except snorkel, swim, dive, kayak, eat, drink and relax in beautiful surroundings. Perfect.

A big thanks to Kim, Terry and the rest of the staff

This place is all you need and more!

Accommodation : basic and constructed out of local resources such as palm fronds, dead coral and local trees. Simply a bed in a room with solar powered lighting or candles with the sound of the sea lapping at your doorstep to sing you to sleep. I preferred our toilet and shower being separate from the fare itself as it adds to the adventure.

Food: Delicious, hearty, home cooked meals! Loads of fruit. The local fruit and vegetables are full of flavour and goodness!

Team Tranquility: Hosts, Terry and Kim, and the Tranquility team made us feel at home on the island. Very professional when it comes to dive instructing and their aim is to make your stay the best they can possibly make it.

Diving: Visibility was incredible!!! 20m+ Its the picture you envision when you think of scuba diving! Colourful, healthy reefs and plenty fish!

Location: Paradise! You are on a lush green Island surrounded by crystal waters away from civilisation with all you need! You forget about all the other overrated and unnecessary stuff we humans have come to obsess over and go back to basics. It really allows you to relax and reflect.

I didn't want to leave.

Room Tip: I can only speak for Fare 4 as its the only one we stayed in. I really loved it. There is a bit of...
