We visited very recently for an engagement meal, which had been booked for many weeks and deposits paid in advance. The happy couple booked the whole of the upstairs, as there were 39 booked for food. Were told by staff this wouldn't be a problem.
On the night, when we arrived we found that they had given away two of the pre-booked tables to another party and were trying to squeeze 34 of us onto tables that were meant for 25 or so people! Trying to squeeze 6 people onto every table meant for 4, leaving no room for people to be able to eat their food comfortably.
There were still people to arrive when I got there and they couldn’t even seat us, let alone the people that were to follow.
When the couple questioned the owner about this, he was VERY unhelpful and didn't do much to try to rectify the situation other than moving the tables even closer together. This would have meant the people sitting by the wall would have had to either climb under the table or have everyone their side get up if they needed the bathroom. It also didn't actually make any more room than previously as the tables were different heights so unless people wanted to eat their food with their plate at an angle and wobbling every time they tried to cut something, it didn't solve the seating issue.
In the end, it was only when we said we were going to leave that the other party were asked to move and we were given the tables that had been originally booked. The owner obviously realised just how much money his awful behaviour was going to cost him!
The owner was very rude and wouldn’t listen to anybody other than himself.
To be fair to the waitress, she was trying her best to help us but the owner wouldn't let her help and kept sending her away. She did apologize profusely later on, but I did not see the owner apologise once for the fact that his greed cause stress and upset to the couple.
The food was OK; I've been previously and had nicer food. I had the lamb shank, which was cooked quite well, but it could have done with some more mash potato and gravy as it was a bit dry at the end.
They were understaffed on the night, which considering this large party had been booked for weeks previously shouldn't have been an issue. The waitress and waiter did try their best to keep up and were constantly on the go, as they also had to service guests on the ground floor.
The waiter seemed to constantly supply jugs of sangria, which cost £12 a jug (it was only after we ordered one that we had the chance to query the price) Very overpriced in my opinion as it wasn't even that nice!
To sum up:
Owner's attitude sucked, clearly just about the money and not about happy customers.
Food average, not as good as it has been in the past.
Drinks over priced.
Won't be going back again after this experience.
Waitress is clearly underpaid as she is the only one who seems to want to have happy customers!
