“Decent place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012 via mobile

Lovely location and looks quite classy. Food is standard Italian fare. €13.50 for nice chopped scallops and spaghetti dish of a good size. Cheap house wine was nice. Service a little slow but fine. Great spot for lunch I'd say

“Lovely view, fresh seafood”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2012

We had lunch outside on the small pier overlooking a canal in Murano. Delicious fresh seafood-I had grilled shrimp that were a foot long and my husband had the misto-calamari and shrimp. We didn't order salads, but they did look pretty mediocre. We also had to seek out the waiter for our check, but the blue sky and ocean breezes made the wait bearable. As mentioned previously, there is a coperto (cover charge) of 2.50euro per person. It is pricey, but this is Venice. Everything in Venice is expensive!

“Pleasant Al Fresco Dining with a View”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2012

Temperature on the day we visited Murano was up in the 90’s F. The outdoor area of Ai Frati, being right on the canal, a little further in from the main drag, offered a nice respite of cooling breeze and quietness.
Food was adequate at the Ai Frati. The bowl of mixed salad consisted of fresh baby lettuce leaves and a good portion of shaved carrot plus a couple of cherry tomatoes, though it felt a bit pricy at 6 euro. The spaghetti alle vongole, in comparison, was a better deal, double the size of what would normally have been main dish portion in US. We heard that this dish originated in Venice thanks to the abundance of clams available locally. Our dish testified this must be true, as we had a heaping plateful of those little sweet clams - a reversal of US versions of the dish where you'd find mostly spaghetti with only a dozen or so clams. And all for just approximately double the salad price!!
Service was fine, unlike the experience of the previous reviewer. There was a cover charge of $2.50/person. Near the end of our meal, we were entertained by a musician with accordion playing tango songs for small changes.

“The worst meal that I have ever had in my life”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2012

After more misses than hits with our dining experiences in Venice we decided to try Ai Frati in Murano as the setting was lovely. We waited ages before somebody acknowldged us and led us to a table (a lady in front of us actually gave up waiting and left). The waiter kindly informed us that they had run out of many dishes but we decided to stay anyway as we waited so long. The starter of shrimps (16E) was literally a small plate with the tinest boiled shrimp that you could imagine plonkled in the middle, no dressing, garnish etc. We then ordered a fish risotto for 2 for 36E. When it arrived it resembled a small plate of rice pudding (again no garnish etc) and tasted like rice boiled in fish stock-cube. There was no visible fish at all. The first time in my life that I sent something back and refused to pay for it. We were told that the fish was in the sauce! Good things about the restaurant-nice house wine and lovely setting.
