“Honeymoon bliss”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

We stayed for three nights at the tail end of our honeymoon road trip and it was the highlight of our trip. Peaceful and relaxing hardly begins to describe it, a really special part of the world enhanced by the tasteful and cosy cottage decor. We loved every minute of it, the braai, the plunge pool, the walks, the dam, the hot springs down the road. So special and very romantic indeed. Thank you John!

Room Tip: Stonehaven was perfect for couples

I think my companion and I were the first people to stay in Stonehaven cottage who aren't a couple and the incredibly helpful and efficient John and Hedley offered to put in another bed for our three nights to go alongside the double. They warned us it would look odd but when we arrived and opened the door we found that the enormous beautiful room that is the interior of the cottage easily absorbed the extra bed. The room is barn style, with an open roof space to the rafters. Absolutely everything you need is thought of and accommodated and the decor and arrangement is completely user-friendly and easy on the eye.

The Petersfield Farm Cottages website promotes the cottage especially for couples and one can see why - it is a fabulous totally private spot with all manner of romantic possibilities including an in-room corner bath and an outdoor bath way into the fynbos under the skies. But there is also a wonderful large and stylish shower room (albeit with somewhat erratically behaved bottled gas-heated water) which makes the cottage totally practicable for two people not romantically involved. And one doesn't have to be romantically involved to appreciate the privacy and the stunning location.

We took full advantage of all the wonderful walking trails over the farm property, flopping into the cottage's plunge pool to cool down on a particularly hot day. The verandah (stoep) has a to-die for view and hours can be spent lying on garden chairs watching the sky and listening to the fabulous birds - and following the progress of the swallows building nests in the verandah roof. At the end of the day what could be nicer than to sip wine while preparing the built-in braai with the generous supply of prepared wood that is provided.

I can think of only one thing I would have liked to have that wasn't provided and that was a really good bird book. Oh and possibly two more towels for using around the plunge pool. But these are tiny comments when compared with everything else. It was an unforgettable visit that we will savour when we return soon to an English winter ...

We went with our 3 Dogs again to Petersfield. This time at De Kom. This Cottage is fully fenced, so even with dogs very relaxing. The position of this Cottage is nice! You look into a Valley, they called basin. A lovelly view with lots of flowers (Sept.). There a great walking or hiking pathes. AND the dam. :)) In summer inviting for a swim, in case the pool is to small. Even in times, when you dont want to walk, its so relaxing to sit on the pool, listen to the birds and reading a good book. The evenings are so lovely, sitting together at the fire and chating.
For any question or problem John Ross was there to help. He has a lot Information, e.g. what you can visit outside from Petersfield.
We are sooo looking forward to our next stay. :)

Room Tip: If you travel with dogs take De Kom, but the other Cottages are very nice as well.

My mate and i visited RSA last month and made it a point to visit the Cederberg Area to see the wildflowers and based ourselves at Citrusdal. Right from the beginning of the online booking process, John Ross was exceptionally helpful, informative and downright friendly and answered all our questions in great detail (we have a lot of questions too this being our first time to South Africa!!). Once we arrived at the farm we were blown away by the beauty and tranquility of the farm, the front part was planted in all kinds of citruses and rooibos tea, while the back half of the farm (where the chalets are) were kept in their natural fynbos vegetation. John was there to meet and greet us and we chatted for a while over cups of Rooibos tea before he directed us to our chalet with a bag full of complimentary oranges right from his farm =) We stayed at the stonehaven chalet, although its probably more suited for couples on honeymoon my mate and i made the most of it. it was well equipped, very comfortable and had the most amazing views. The fireplace came in handy on our second night when it was cold & pouring outside, coupled with the flickering lights from the oil lamps it was just fantastic. we didnt bother with the electric lights at all, we only use the iPod dock to charge our phones and played some music as well as making full use of the kitchen and cooked our own meals there. We didnt get a chance to use the little pool or the outdoor bathtub out the back due to the cold but im sure in summer the pool would be sublime. in the early mornings we walked all around the farm, amongst the fynbos and citrus trees taking lots of photos along the way. I highly recommend a stay at Petersfield farm especially if you're from Cape Town as its only 2.5hours away. We came all the way from New Zealand and enjoyed every moment we spent there, the only regret we had was that we couldn't stay longer. thank you very much John & Hedley for your wonderful hospitality, we hope to come back again one day.

Room Tip: all chalets were great, spread far apart from each other so totally secluded and private.

We stayed in Stonehaven for four nights.

It was really special. The cottage is on the hill, with a 1km dirt road to get there, and totally secluded. It has everything you might need, including a fireplace inside and a braai on the stoep. At the end of the four days, I wished that we had booked for a week!

It was flower time, and the flowers on the farm is beautiful.

I can highly recommend Petersfield farm.

Room Tip: We had a quick look at some of the other cottages, and they all seem very nice. For a couple I can r...

Thanks to Stonehaven cottage. It is simply great. Watching the sunrise or the stars next to the little pool or the sunset in the bath tube! The bath tube in the cottage with lots of candles around is also wonderful. And there is really nobody else around! We'll be back!

We had a 3 day stay in Stonehaven. Pure awesome bliss. Romance x 500%. Total privacy except for the birds that saw everything! I still want to experience a winter weekend there.
