“Better inside.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

This is a simple hotel on the outskirts of Lier.
This was our second visit as it is clean and comfortable. The rooms are a good size with a huge bed and well laid out with good furniture. The bathroom amazing, we had a 2m shower cubicle! The only downside is the glass door into the bathroom. Even as a 45 year married couple we like our privacy, and I don't think we are alone.
Breakfast is quite poor, we came around 8.45, breakfast was 8 - 11, and yet there was no scrambled egg and only 4 small rashers of bacon. The bread was so thin I thought I had one slice when in fact I had 3. However we found that the same girl that manned the reception also had to sort the breakfast, so staff shortage definitely the problem here.
Just a short walk away is the town though where you have a fantastic choice of places to eat and drink. Lots to see - the old clock, church, town-hall, market square and much more and you can take a boat ride or a trip of the little tourist land train.
Although there is no restaurant in the hotel there is fabulous one very close. Just pop out the rear entrance, go down to the main road - cross over and there to your right is some of the best service and food in the area. Note the name - 't hoeveke.
So although it is not the most brilliant of hotels there is enough to make it worthwhile if you need a hotel in this area.
Need to add though - it is not very cheap at 120 Euros.
If you so wish you have the use of the pool, spa and fitness centre next door and no extra charge.

Stayed there on a Saturnday night while on a bike tour through Flanders. Just the average hotel/motel looking type of place from the outside but quite nice on the inside. Room and bed quality more than average, nice bathroom and overall very clean place. Breakfast was average. East-European staff helpful and correct.

Lier is a nice but hardly epic wee Flemish town and the Best Western is a business traveller/stopover motel. The exterior of the Hotel is sad, with weeds, empty beer bottles and broken lights in the car park. A thousand Euros would tidy the whole lot up, also freshen the garden and terrace furniture and pool area. Inside the Hotel is nicer. Our room was huge with a king size and a single. The bathroom was ferociously clean with a residual bleach smell of chemical war proportions. Breakfast, unlike some disparaging reviews, was more than ample by any standards. All in all, with a very pleasant Manager and staff, ample parking etc the Hotel was ideal for us a base in Flemish Belgium.

Which is your main reason to chose a Hotel?
In my case, cleanness, room comfortable and if it is possible nice fitness area, are the main reasons for me. In this case the hotel has fairly fitted them. However, if you are looking for a nice Hotel with amazing breakfast, nice views then you should forget it.

Good points: large room, hotel clean, friendly staff.
Bad points: safe broken, kettle broken, breakfast nothing to shout about but ok. Bar closed.
Stayed 2 nights. Had emailed hotel beforehand to enquire about the safe, wasn't told they were all broken and they haven't got a master key to fix them. Was offered a replacement kettle with a warning that I might get electrocuted because it was dripping wet! I don't think so! Also didn't realise that 1st November is a bank holiday and absolutely no where is open. Nothing to entertain the kids.

Good location to walk into Lier with plenty of large parking places. Newish hotel, friendly staff on reception, room was large and quite nice but nothing special. Breakfast was basic but adequate. We would return as the location was so good (we don't mind a few minutes stroll into the centre) and Lier itself is a very pretty town with nice bars serving excellent beer!
