“Great Meeting Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2010

This was my second time staying at this resort. The first time was back in 2008 and I had a nice experience. This time my company had a very large meeting at the resort so most of my time was spent in their meeting space instead of on the golf course. The service and food during the meeting was very good, not your typical "rubber chicken" dinners. Since my last visit it appears the resort has renovated the rooms and other areas. I stayed in lodge 5 and the room was very comfortable and appeared to have been renovated compared to my last stay with all the usual amenities you would expect from a Marriott like a flat screen tv and comfortable bed. One big difference is they added a new bar just off the lobby which was very nice. We had a nice event out by the pool one evening and on another night our company sent us on a dine around to South Beach. The only down side was the trip to South Beach took about 30 minutes and our group decided to stick around and not join the group bus back to the resort. The cab fare was about $60. I would say the only down side was that in order to enjoy Miami's night life we had to travel pretty far to get there. On the bright side the hotel is very close to the airport. One other new change from my last visit is they renovated their fitness center and I believe moved it to a better location closer to the lobby and I must say one of the better fitness centers that I have experienced. The only down side was that there were several teenagers using it on one of the days I was there and they were pretty loud and obnoxious which tainted the experience a bit.

Starting 3 night stay at the Doral Resort as part of a business conference. First impression pulling through the circle was good. Clearly the main focus of this place is golf. Other than that, the lodges looked dated right off the bat so I was a bit worried. The lobby of course looks great and I was looking forward to the rooms being nice, but unfortunately wasn't the case.

So I actually waited an hour for my room to become "ready" while it was cleaned, so naturally I am expecting a "clean" room. Right off the bat, I put my things down and try to set up my computer to check some emails. As I pull the chair out, I see pieces of plastic wrap from a water bottle and other visible bits of trash on the floor. Try to set my computer down on the table but the table looks doesn't "look right." I take my finger and slide it along the glass top surface and find that there is a layer of dust on the table so clear that I can see the line where I touched the table. And the list just continues. Edge of the room by the balcony is flat out filthy. The water and temperature control on the shower is broken, shower tub doesn't drain so I am standing in a pool of water while showering.

Asked the front desk to switch rooms but was denied since "all rooms were accounted for." No apology or nothing. Needless to say I can't wait for this trip to end so I can not stay in this filthy room. Room is pre-paid for as part of the conference fee, otherwise I wouldn't stay here a minute longer than I need to. No possible way I would come back personally. It's too bad since the golf accommodations look great.

Thank you for posting your review on what appears to have been a very poor experience at our resort. Please accept our sincere apologies for the list of issues that you experienced.

We were glad to see that your first impression of the resort's grounds and lobby area were positive and disappointed for what you experienced for the balance of your stay. We have reviewed your comments with our housekeeping staff and it is obivious that we fell terribly short of the usually high standards for cleanliness of our guest rooms. In addition you should have promptly been moved to another room in close proximity of the first room.

We would like to speak to you directly to resolve this issue in an attempt to get you to return to our resort so that you can experience the service and ameniites at the usual high standards of a Marriott Resort. Please contact me directly at your earliest convenience at 305 591 6631.

Thank you again for your feedback.

This is my third year back.My friends-forth or fifth time.Rooms were great.Service was great. There are 5 courses that vary in difficulty so no matter how bad or good you are there is a challenge. We always use the restaurant our first night ,food and service is terrific. .Amenities after golf can't be beat; driving range, pool, spa, gym, out door restaurant overlooking 18th hole of blue monster, 15 minutes from South Beach(usually where we spend our other evenings) We go other places but always Come to Doral in the spring.

Thank you for your positive comments. Repeat customers are the best compliment a guest can give to a hotel. We are very fortunate to have great customers like you that continue to come back to Doral. Our owners continue to invest in the property and hopefully you were able to take advantage of our new Jim McLean Signature Course and stopped by the brand new Bossa Nova Lounge just off the lobby. We look forward to hosting you again at Doral next spring.

The hardest thing was getting to the airport. Doral is conviently located near Miami Airport. We left Hartford at 6:00AM annd were playing golf at noon! The service was wonderful, the rooms great, restaurants super.... the golf fantastic. The spa well, the ladies were well taken care of! They loved it. We were treated like royality from the time arived until the time we left.

We ended up here as emergency accomodation due to the volcano ash delays, courtesy of British Airways.
A high class hotel, spa and golf resort - 5 golf courses, 3 pools and huge spa - but all at a price. Smallest rooms about $200 a night, top golf course about $300 a round. The restaurants ranged from London West End standard and similar prices (Easily £60 per head plus drinks) to more basic (Clubhouse) food at £30 a head. Breakfast starts from £15 a head.
Facilities and rooms good, staff very helpful and friendly.
Golf courses excellent if rather expensive and the place revolves around the golf courses so it has to be done. Excellent gym too if you need to work off the food.
A little isolated if you want to go off site, but a car gives plenty of Miami options and only 15 mins from airport.

Thank you for your positive review. We are extremely pleased that you enjoyed your time at the resort. In regards to the pricing comments in your review, we would like to suggest that upon your next visit to Doral that you look into our Golf and Spa Packages. When you add together the total components of these packages you will find that you can save up to 30% off of what you would have paid for them seperately. We do shop other resorts in the South Florida market and find that our prices are very competitive. One other tip, you can find better values during the spring, summer and fall at Doral.

As we were a group of four golfers and have visited TPC Scottsdale, TPC Sawgrass, and many other "high end" golf facilities we were hoping that what we had read as complaints could not be true, but low and behold they were! The trip advisory previous comments by some 20 comments said to be prepared for room access cards and parking access cards that continually don't work, work for an hour, work at the front desk but when you get to your room they don't work! 100% true, we had two rooms and after a total of 10 new access cards "each", trips back and forth to the lobby each time, we were tired of the excuses and trying to blame us for carrying the cards next to another card! We had received new cards when we left the lobby after dinner and by the time we returned back to the room, they didn't work! The Asst. Front Desk Manager who i made aware that Doral Golf Resort was becomming a laughing stock on the internet didn"t seem to care and the fact that she said that they would have a technician re-configure the code via a hand held device, well they had done this five or six times already! The truth was that when a Security Officer who had this device came to our room "once again" to reprogram the door, he told us "off the record" that he reprograms the doors in the Lodges bascially his entire shift, "every day"! The front desk tried to make it sound like it was a minor problem when in fact you could hear alot of the patrons around the pool talking about the same thing! The pool was hotter, about 103 degrees, than the tiny little hot tub, three person tub at most! The Resturants (Champions) was okay but the food became tiring! We were deciding if we should go outside of the resort to find another place to eat, the hotel worker gave us a few places to go and her comments were" yes the place i am recommending is in a "safe area" to go, BUT do not go to these other areas unless you are in a "large group" NOT what we wanted to hear when staying in this proported nice resort! When we originally booked our golf package the whole intent was to play the "Blue monster", the famed course, however as we followed the requirements that you could not lock in the tee off time until 60 days prior to arrival we were nicely told that the Blue Monster was now booked, as was the next best course so we had no choice than to play the "gold course"! Save your money, this course winds throughout the homes and if you don't mind cars driving around some of the tee decks while your in your back swing driving to their home or don"t mind roads running right along side the fairways, knock yourself out! The $405.00 per person the stay and play, was a complete waste! We played Harbour Town in Hilton Head, TPC Sawgrass and had "forecaddies" included as part of the package which made the experince a great time, not the case here! As the previous reveiws had stated the elevators are very old and noisy, so make sure you don't get a room by the elevator! The washrooms are old, tiny and tired and as far as exhaust fans in the washroom, well the mens washroom near the Champions bar never seemed to have any exhuast, as the Saturday evening with a wedding going on, the two main courses having a golf tournament could not handle the odors, not pleasant! No courtesy bottled water on the golf cart and ironically when we teed off we had to be prepared for the "club members" in front of us who made it a practice to hit a "small bucket" on every couple of holes until they liked the shot! No marshall ever showed up and its funny, special rules must be in place for these members as they drove their golf carts as close as they wanted to the greens! Also be "aware" check your bill very, very carefully, both of our bills had to be adjusted because they had "outgoing calls" charged from each of our rooms when in fact at the times the calls were made there was no one in the rooms, so obviously staff have a number that they use to call their friends or family, charge your room and then when we questioned it, again this Asst Front desk manager made us feel like she was doing us a favour by taking the "phatom phone calls" off our bill! If you happen to be a cigar smoker, they did have some excellent choices however be prepared to wait a while to receive the cigar as they could not find the key to open up the humidor until a serach party found them, and be prepared for this great line if your eating in the Champions bar, they drop the menus off and will tell you that they will be right back! (ha,ha) Right back means a minimum of 10 minutes! We also filled out a "comment card" and again i was assured that we would receive a reply, well its been over a week and no reply, but you will see that once this review gets filed that they will take all of ten seconds to press the number 2, 3 or 4 on their computer and we will receive a "computer generated" sorry! They should start listening to people and do something about these issues! We were not given any suggestion about some form of compensation from the Asst Front desk manager, she bascially punched our bill out as quick as possible so the other people checking in would not see that this Resort is not all its cranked up to be! We were asked by her, she hoped we would come back, point blank, "NEVER" ! For all of you out there please read these Trip Advisor, in most cases they are correct!

BA put us here during the Volcano fiasco and its a very impressive resort , wonderful grounds , great pool/lagoon area , great gold courses , impressive reception and restaurants . However its was badly let down by the accomodation which is basically 10 unattended 3 star motel blocks surrounding the main hotel/reception bulildings , dated bathroom , antiquated shower , 2 inch gap under the door . We came back to our room after breakfast and got covered in paint after they decided to paint the front door of our room , room did not get cleaned until 8pm one day and were told by reception was normal !! , requests for extra coffee took 4 phone calls . One suspects that this is a short term golf and convention hotel and does not really cater for people on vacation .
