“Bad service, so so rooms, crazy resort layout, and HORRIBLE food”

Stayed here for three nights on business with 5 associates (6 rooms.) While the place seemed nice at first glance, the entire experience was less than desirable. My room in Lodge 3 was spacious with a large balcony, and decent furnishings, but the bathroom was small and cramped with a horrible shower head. The food for breakfast was pretty bad, and you had to beg to get coffee. Don't the wait staff realize that people want coffee as soon as they sit down for breakfast? If Denny's gets this concept, certainly the Trump people could. Food for lunch was mediocre and very expensive. Restaurant staff was clueless--set the table without forks and then seemed truly puzzled when we asked for forks. The pool is nice, but you have to walk down the middle of a busy driveway to get to it. The checkout experience was a nightmare, with a huge wait (one overwhelmed person working the desk--her colleague was 'trying to send a fax, but the fax machine wasn't working.) Simple tasks like splitting out mini bar charges for separate payment required calls to accounting and 15 minutes to figure out. Most of the staff seemed undertrained and overwhelmed, and certainly not empowered to find solutions to problems.

Also, the hotel is right by the airport, so you get a lot of aircraft noise.

Having read all of the recent negative reviews concerning the disruption in service due to the ongoing renovations, we were quite worried that we, too, would be disappointed in our 5 day stay at this resort. Could not have been more wrong! We had an amazingly wonderful experience here and would highly recommend the resort to anyone looking for a great golf getaway. The staff, particularly Frank (front desk manager) but also every other employee we had the pleasure to interact with, went above and beyond throughout our stay to make sure we were happy - they truly exceeded our expectations at every turn. The pool staff was outstanding (and the drinks were inventive and delicious), the golf shop and course staff were extremely accommodating and the front desk personnel (especially Catrina and Buck) were terrific. The staff has been through the ringer with all of the negativity surrounding the renovations (Mr. Trump's company apparently didn't see fit to inform people making reservations that there would be service disruptions over the last several months and left the poor staff to deal with a lot of unhappy guests as a result. I would have understood if they were weary from all of the abuse, but they honestly could not have been more kind and professional).

We played 3 rounds of golf and enjoyed the courses. The Red course is currently being rebuilt, so the beauty of the place was marred a bit by that activity, but it didn't stop us from enjoying our rounds and we are looking forward to going back when the work is complete. The newly completed pool area is lovely and luxurious and the restaurant there serves terrific appetizers (especially loved the Acapulco style shrimp, fried calamari, and the tomato and mozz lavash), salads (Ivanka salad and crispy shrimp salad were dynamite) and sandwiches (especially loved the steak ciabatta).

We stayed in a newly renovated villa and the room was beautiful, well-appointed, and had fabulous beds and bedding. The robes were the most luxurious I've ever been offered at a hotel.

So the bottom line is to understand that the most impactful parts of the renovation are complete and give this place a visit. They are continuing to renovate the aging parts of the resort, but the infrastructure seems to be back in place and the key areas of the resort are fantastic. The staff makes for a wonderful experience and will do everything they can to make you happy.

Read the reviews from February 2014 and you get the general idea. Horrid experience. Trump came in to oversee the remodeling/construction and had lunch at table next to ours. Anyone with concern for customer satisfaction would have bought lunches for those in the area to minimize the disruption all the construction activity created for paying guests. I can only assume he realized there was nothing that could remedy the total disregard for the hotel guests comfort during renovations. Don't even get me started on the banquet for 200+ guest we attended. Shameful! Donald (you no longer earn the respect of being called Mr. Trump) , every one of your employees that had to endure constant complaints for circumstances beyond their control should be given a bonus.

Please see my pictures. They were taken in front of the pool, main guest areas, and check in areas....NOT in some obscure location on the resort.

Stayed at the Trump National Doral for 5 nights for a medical conference (feb 25 - March 2nd). The resort bills itself (and changes rates in line with) a five star resort. However, the hotel was under significant construction while we were there. I can't believe they would allow guests during this type of renovation. The front entrance was not open so we had to use the spa entrance down the street from the main gate. The staff, the only saving grace, were wonderful, apologetic, and tried to make us happy, however they had little to work with.

If you chose to walk around the resort, you had to walk down the middle of the road (dodging fresh sticky asphalt), as the sidewalks were not entirely paved or covered by workers tools (see pictures). Several holes of the gold course were under renovation. Construction workers were working throughout the day and night with large portable lights and generators, (presumably to get ready for the championship the following weekend). Large trucks were driving on the main resort areas all the time. The only place in the whole resort open for dinner was the pool bar, with a small menu (hope you like hamburgers!) and plastic cups. The rooms are large, but most are in need of renovation!

I understand that these renovations need to happen, however I do not know why a resort that advertises itself as a "trump 5 star" joint can put up guests during this time period. Especially for 300+ dollars a night ($260 PLUS 13% taxes). This was my first experience at a Trump resort. I usually prefer other brands, but decided to try this out because my conference was held here. I don't think I will ever stay at another Trump resort again. Shameful!

I'm sure the infrastructure will be fantastic when it's finished but it's the service that needs a bigger upgrade at Trump Doral Resort. The $30 we were charged for cold scrambled eggs at the breakfast buffet and nearly 2 hours waiting for a pool-side lunch order are unacceptable at any resort, let alone one that has Mr. Trump's name on it.

We experienced the hotel as it was in it's final stages of preparedness for the Open. We stayed in Lodge 5 in a very nice room with a huge balcony. Room 540.
The room has not been updated yet, however the bathroom was beautiful marble, the room large and airy.
We were invited to the pool opening as a guests. Lots of fun with synchronized swimmers, mermaids, apps and champagne. Very nice.
We also rented a cabana for the day, which we started with business meetings, enjoying the warm FLA weather.
It was absolutely crazy time, the staff remained extremely friendly and accomodating.

The location is beautiful, the staff is very pleasant, but the service is lacking. We had major issues with room, restaurant, and housekeeping services. First, my friend and I were there for three nights and not once was our coffee station replenished or clean, in-room glasses replaced. We ordered room service breakfast one morning and when we returned that evening the dirty dishes were still in the room even though housekeeping had been there earlier.
Our second issue was with the room service food: the bagels were stale and hard, there were not enough dishes for two (specified when we ordered), and the 'fresh squeezed' orange juice was horrible. Awful food and poor service is not a good way to begin a day!
The final insult was when we dined at the restaurant by the main pool. We ordered a bottle of champagne (about $200) and when the waitress brought it to the table she brought plastic solo cups with it. Yep, plastic solo cups! We were told there was no glass allowed in the pool area. We were at least 50 feet away from the pool and did mention it was a bottle of champagne? We told her to take it back and drank iced tea instead. But as we were heading back to our room, we noticed the staff setting up for a poolside party complete with a full bar (bottles), glass votives, and glass cigar ashtrays on the tables . The party tables were no more than 10-15 feet away from the pool!
I really expected more from a place as nice as this one. We are from Florida and my husband wants to take me back there to stay and play golf. I am going to try and talk him out of it. I would rather travel a little farther and get better service for the money.
