“Deplorable Hotel”

I am here now, 2/19/12, and the Pros will be here on 3/7, so this place is as good as it gets right now and it is deplorable! Ratty carpet and furnishings. Decrepit walkways and broken curbing. Diseased plants. Raingutter is hanging off the building in Lodge 1. Toilet backs up at the floor drain in front of the sink in the ladies bathroom at the patio restaurant. Trump needs to buy it, blow it up and start over.

In all fairness, I do not golf, but I assume golf would be the only reason to come here. My husband said the meeting rooms were good. The spa had a facelift and seems pretty nice on the inside, but the pools and exterior are trashed. The restaurant at the spa is terrible! Food at Mesazul was delicious. There is nothing to do around here.

Came to doral for my boyfriends 50th. According to him the golf course was superior. He was thrilled. I was disappointed. The room was old. The bed sheets were scratchy. Hair in the bathroom. Spa services were nice but a little pricey.

Just completed three painful nights at Doral. I spent over 70 nights at Marriotts last year and this was by far the worst one. The good news is that I was able to leave two days early.

The rooms at this facility are far outdated, the plumbing was a problem, my balcony door did not open and the room location left me feeling like I was staying in a cave. This is my fourth time staying here for a conference, I pleaded with the front desk for a decent room with some light or a partial view. I got a bunch of bad excuses an a room next to the elevator.

I understand the the buildings a old, but the people are not and they could be much more accommodating. On my way to the airport one of the valets hooked me up with a cab that went twenty miles out of his way and charge me 110 to go to fort lauderdale airport.

Hopefully I will never have to stay here again as most people at the conference are fed up with the facility and the committee is looking for a better venue.

Room Tip: Stay at another hotel

So me and my friends decided to stay at the resort for one night so we can play at the bluemonster the next day. Now we certainly wish we shouldn't had switched at the first place.

The worst:
Double charge my credit card and my friend's credit card, even though we made it absolutely clear during check-in that we want all charges to be put on my friend's credit card. The staff at frontdesk was fully aware of that as well.

The bad:
Old room and furnitures.
Bad shower
Overpriced and slow Internet
Stained beds
No hairdryer
Noise of people peeing upstairs
self-park is a nightmare
Expensive green fee for mediocre golf course. the conditions were really soso for $300 price tag

The good
Friendly staffs

Tips for staying in the area
Avoid this one and stay at the Marriott villas

I've been at Doral Resort for 4 nights. Rooms are comfortable (need some cosmetic renovations, though, and the showers are bad). Service is great. Staff polite. Golf and spa facilities very nice (overpriced spa treatments). Restaurants are nice and they have a sort of starbucks branch that is very convenient. The only problem is the distance to Miami main areas (20/30 minutes whithout traffic). I enjoyed my stay.

Room Tip: Try a room close to the main buiding/lobby.

I went down for a golf weekend with some friends.
Guys, golf, cigars.
I don't think it could have been a bad weekend.
The hotel grounds are huge and spacious. Tropical and lush. Golf-centric but with plenty of pool and non-golf stuff to go around.
The hotel was slightly dated, but still very nice comfortable and clean.

Stayed here last week. For a Marriott property, it certainly didn't live up to the Marriott standards when comparing rooms for prices paid. I paid $259/night plus taxes, parking, internet which was a conference special rate.

Here were a few of the problems I encountered:

There was no water pressure in shower.
The Hair dryer had no power to it and was really cheap.
Carpet was worn.
End of bed cover was dingy and stained with spots.
Parking was far from rooms -- had to take a golf cart and pay for self parking. Double the cost if want valet parking.
It is a very tired property and dated furniture and furnishings in rooms.
The conference center was updated, but rooms need a lot of help.
Service in the restaurant that served breakfast was extremely slow.
There was no pen in the room and no full length mirror.
Nowhere to walk to -- need to eat at resort if you don't have a car or want to take a taxi.

Additionally, internet is 12.95 per day

I was here for a conference and had no free time to golf, so can't judge the golf facilities which this resort seemed to be all about.

My room was huge.

Overall I was extremely disappointed.
