“Nice hotel with a good location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2012

Choices in this town are few, and at the time of my stay back in May this was the best available hotel. I think that a new more modern hotel has recently opened. This was just a one night stop for our group after 3 nights in Tanjung Puting National Park. So, we were excited to find such 'luxury' after 3 days in the jungle. The lobby is 4 star and the rooms are 3.5 star, but all was great. The staff were wonderful and helpful. There are 2 floors of rooms, but no elevator. Not a problem, as porters can assist with the luggage.

Rooms have TV and A/C, and the bathrooms came with all the usual toiletries. Free WiFi in the lobby, and cold drinks in the minibar (no alcohol). There are some market shops just outside if you need to buy food / snacks / water / etc. This place is also not a far walk from the center where there are a couple of decent restaurants (though I never had time to try them out).

There is a school next door, so you will not be able to sleep in past 8am as the roll call and announcements begin. But, this did not seem to bother anyone in our group. The hotel restaurant is downstairs, and not very attractive! BUT, they arranged an excellent dinner for my group.. so I give this place 'thumbs up'. All in all we had a great stay!

The hotel hall is impressive, but it looks as if they ran out of budget after building it.

Considering the price, the rooms are poor, specially the bathroom.

This hotel was a good location, the rooms were comfortable and the price was very reasonable. We had dinner in the hotel and it was nice food. The breakfast was good also. The staff were really friendly and very helpful. If you needed anything you just had to ask and they were more than willing to help. We stayed one night as we were going off the next day to the National Park to see the Orangutans and I thought it was a great location for this. I would recommend this hotel if you need to stop over for your tours.

Bear in mind the location you are in when you first see this hotel, the town it is in is a thriving town by Borneo standards and it is used as a base to all the other areas of interest in the island.

When you bear that in mind, the hotel might as well be the Ritz!

The lobby is impressive and has helpful staff at check in, speak slowly and with a smile and everything gets done pretty quick and to a good standard. Check out was a bit slow and it seems multi tasking is not grasped yet, but if you know this in advance, just go with the easy going flow, and enjoy your welcome drink of ice tea

The room were a good size with comfortable beds and good hot showers, you even get some toiltries in there too (including toothbrush and paste) and fresh towels everyday. If you want more towels just as at reception.

There is no internet in the rooms, but then there is free wireless internet in the lobby which is great, and of pretty good speed too.

The food was very tasty, the restaurant area could do with a lick of paint, but after being there for a few days you realize the humidity just strips it away and tends to make things look more tired that they actually are.

The waiters were very helpful in explaining the food and getting you want you need. Breakfast has great coffee with it. the egg station made good omelets and poached eggs, but again bear in mind that multi tasking is just not going to happen. one egg at a time, so make sure you are not starving when you get down there ;)

We also used the laundry service which was very good and well priced, great for when you were out all day in wet and dirty clothes!

Overall we liked the hotel and we would recommend it for what it is, a base for you to explore the surrounding area.

Room Tip: Try to avoid room 306 as it is right below the gym area and it can be a bit noisy sometimes.

We stayed at the Blue Kecubung Hotel for one night before going into the National Park to see Orang-utans. Our experience of the hotel was very different to the previous reviewer who mentioned to "avoid the hotel at all costs".

We found the staff friendly, polite and willing to carry our bags to our upstairs room without us asking. The room was basic but comfortable and clean. The air-conditioning was excellent. The bathroom was also clean, athough the door did not shut properly. There was only 2 small towels available (no bathmat, hand towel etc), although this seems to be the norm in basic hotels in Indonesia.

Good location - we walked down to the river in 5 mins and spent time with local kids and visited the markets.

We did not eat at the hotel so cannot comment on this.
