“A little paradise in the middle of the bush”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2013

This was one of our best stays ever. The apartments are very comfortable, clean and spacious with large verandas to enjoy the peace in the middle of the nature. Every night was relaxing and at the same time exciting, having a wine while listening to the sounds of the wild animals. During the day, when we wanted to relax, we stayed at the park next to the swimming pool. On other days we went for Safari trips at the Kruger Park, which is just 20 minutes away. We also did the Panorama route, which is a great opportunity to see the beautiful landscape of South Africa, including the impressive Blyde River Canyon. The staff is very friendly, respecting the nature and its wildlife complete and they have lots of insider tips on what to do/where to go in and around Phalabowra. For whoever likes to be in the nature and would like to have their own luxury private accommodation, we highly recommend this little paradise in the middle of the bush…

we stayed about a week at Silonque and would have loved to stay longer. such a peaceful place. you can sit on the veranda with a glass of wine, looking and listening to the wildlife. unfortunately we did not see the resident elefants, but warthogs and impalas were present. The house was spacious and had everything you need. the management is very, very friendly and helpful, they even organised a braai for us at arrival. you can go for day trips into Kruger, or just stay at the estate. Phalaborwa is about 8 km away where you can buy your food and any other items you want. there are 2 swimming pools, which we did not use as it was too cold. looking into the sky at night and seeing so many stars left us with long lasting memories.

Dear SeppSydney,

Thank you for your personal response! The elephant also felt sorry that he didn’t see you when you were here. We think he was a little shy. Luckily you made a lot of pictures of the big 5 in the different game parks nearby.

Best regards,
Silonque Bush Estate team

We went to Phalaborwa because it has the easiest access to Kruger National Park. Staying at Silonque meant we could be at the gate within 20 minutes AND we also had the added bonus of animals on the estate. First night; drinks on a beautiful terrace overlooking a dam and a giraffe appeared, followed by a family of waterbuck. The houses are real African luxury; the housekeeping superb; the management friendly and helpful. We got a double dose of animals and we loved it. Coming home to a family of warthogs every afternoon after a day in Kruger puts a smile on your face.

I had an excellent stay in Silonque. Houses and rooms are spacious an give you all the confort you need. Very good bathrooms with shower and bath. Very clean and good housekeeping.
Houses are situated in the bush. You can't be closer to nature!
The luxery level is far higher than the lodges in the Krugerpark.
There are also two nice swimmingpools and an open space breakfast and dining area.
The spa and health center are still under construction.
But I didn't really miss them.
And not to forget: the lodge has implemented a sustainability program and employs very friendly locals!

This is truly a great place to stay if you are looking for accommodation near Kruger Park. The chalet I was staying in had a balcony literally overlooking Kruger Park, with the Phalaborwa gate only a short distance away. There's also tons of other things nearby to see and do. Management and staff are very friendly and helpful, and, from what I've seen, the chalets are of high quality and comfort. The absolute quiet of the surrounding bush helped me to spend a few very relaxing days. And a nice 'braai' on your own 'stoep 'is not to be missed. All in all, I'd say, highly recommended!

Dear Niels,

Thank you for your great review! We are honored that you gave us such a great recommendation. The view from ‘your’ house is great at the moment, there are a little less leaves on the trees (because of the dry season), so you can see the waterhole very clearly now. We will put a nice picture of the view on Tripadvisor soon, so you can still enjoy a little of the view!
