My one night stay was my initiation to the South African bush, and I couldn't have asked for a more splendid first experience! As others have said, I sing Laura's praises for the delicious food...I arrived half starving, and a gorgeous meal awaited me within moments. The lodge itself is a stunning oasis in the middle of dense green bush. Highlights include the lodge's proximity to the Oliphants river where sundowners and wildlife viewing are enjoyed; Mike and Laura's extensive knowledge and love of natural history and culture; and the bon fire made of the lodge's namesake, the lead wood tree. The view from the expansive wood deck surrounding the infinity pool looks out over Muweti's domain and is intoxicating to the eye. I watched a bright yellow weaver industriously making its grass nest as I ate a delicious cold breakfast with coffee followed by eggs cooked to my specification with bacon and toast. Tent chalets are appointed with luxurious beds draped with netting and a full bath with charming fittings. Thanks Mike and Laura...Can't wait to return!
