“Typical All-Inclusive, Good Value for the Cost”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2013

We stayed at the end of the complex closest to the ocean. The building is "U" shaped and both ends of the U are towards the ocean. We were on the 3rd floor and almost had a good view, but not quite.
The food was decent, plentiful and fresh, with a good selection of North American and local fare. There are booze dipensers in the room, but I found that it was stocked with what you might call no-name or knock-off brands, except for the tequila. If consuming alcohol is your thing, the RIU will definitely please (however the white wine served in the dining rooms was not so good).

The adult focussed entertainment was nothing special. Although we didn't have any kids with us, my wife and I took in the kids entertainment one night. It was actually really fun and the kids there had a blast. The staff and singers really got them up and going.

The two nicest things about our stay was (1) The ocean side buffet diner: the view, the breeze the sound of the occean - amazing. (2) The upstairs bar - a great place for a quiet night cap and chit chat. Also a great perch for people watching. Ramon in the upstairs bar is an awesome mixologist. I was amazed at what he knew how to make just from memory.

Room Tip: Get a room facing the ocean and higher than the third floor if you want an unobstructed view.

my friend and i stayed from dec 28-jan 4 2013 the hotel was beautiful, clean, well maintained inside and out ,,,the food was great with lots of variety... staff was friendly and accommodating..the beach was clean and a beautiful walk threw the manicured lawns and gardens.. we were abit leary of child noise.. but my goodness mexicans are probably the most attentive parents ive ever encountered.... the view from the beach was magnificent as were the sunsets

Room Tip: the rooms not facing court yard are preferable as they are quieter but the view is not as nice

Now for my review of this nice hotel
For one it is a riu & they have grown into one of the larger chains in the all inclusive Beach carribean Latin American market, with a great fit & finish no matter whether it is a basic riu or a Palace. Being my third Riu I knew I was in for a treat . Rooms clean and new with no musty smell . Stocked bar frig with water beer mixers. Fab staff as usual. A little smaller than the Palaces.
Plenty of big towels. Usual Riu granite & marble. Bars with bartenders that could make any drink ordered in fast fashion. Food was fresh varied & tasty at the buffets Even had Lobster but head waiter said they only get once in awhile. Pools crisp clean well kept not run down
Landscaping beautiful . This hotel is a "best buy" best of the 3
I have stayed in PVR . I guess some people can find fault with anything
Oh also an excellent beach No bar service at beach but a short walk
To bar. Flaws: ala carte not up to par with past 20'visits Mex Coasts
If you want perfect pay 50 %'more and go somewhere else
Most likely one of Riu's first Highly recommend for budget conscious

Listen , i traveled last march with 6 people. It was such an elegant beautiful resort with a nice long sandy beach.
The food is amazing , everything is up to your likings.
Even if youre picky theres a variety of stuff to eat , if you have kids the Riu Jalisco is the place to go with their fantastic kids club with their own pool and a beautiful ice cream thing located directly in the restaurant on the beach.
Its a big 5 star resort , the fun enternaiments everything is just 5star .
Im picky when it comes to dark sandded beaches i prefer more light white but i wasnt so picky on this one the water was hot and a perfect store wherenthey lend you so many things just for you to have fun.
If you have kids over about 10 years old, try bringing the, to play ping pong near the pool area. Its fantastic.
Get a good deal and go.
You wont regret it

Front desk staff rude and at times unable to understand or speak English, took up to 3 people to find one that could. Had a problem with our room at check in....was told that phone didn't work and they would not get it fixed. Told us we could get a different room but had to check out the following day by 11 a m and check back at 4 pm to see if new room would be ready. Checked out the next day and received a slightly better room. No upgrade or compensation was given to us for any inconvenience.
Next to impossible to get reservations at specialty restaurant's. Had to stand in line every morning before 8 am. Got reservations at steak house......what a mistake that was....steaks were over cooked and extremely tough. The local cat on the beach seemed to really enjoy them though!
Food at buffet was often cold and it took them a long time to replenish empty dishes. Coffee was usually cold because coffee decanters are left on tables and moved from one table to another.
Did enjoy the beach and pool. Pool chairs should however, be wiped down every morning because of bird droppings.
Sunwing reps pretended to care about concerns or issues.french speaking rep assisted french speaking guests first. For example....standing in line for the bus for snorkeling....she took boarding receipt from french speaking guests first and put them on bus before us(they were further down the line from us). Not impressed.
Mini bar was restocked every other day(3 cans of low grade beer at a time)...liquor dispenser was filled with very low grade of alcohol.....they all tasted and smelled like tequila.

We have stayed at the Riu Palace Mexico on the Mayan Riviera side on two occasions and loved it so decided to give the Riu Jalisco a try for Christmas 2012. We really enjoyed ourselves. The hotel is beautiful as are the grounds. It is a family resort and there is a younger crowd than at the Palace resort but the hotel and food was every bit as nice. There were no waitors around the pools or at the beach so getting your own drink was an activity. It gave you a chance to socialize. The food was fabulous at the buffets and we enjoyed a steak at the Brazilian restaurant. Beef is never something I would recommend in Mexico but this was a pleasant surprise. The Asian theme restaurant was buffet and very good, but service was not the best. We were familiar with the Riu layout and requested a room facing out rather than courtyard which I know can be loud. The rooms were clean and the staff friendly. I was particularly impressed with the head chef who seeked me out when he heard my husband was feeling ill and assured me he would be happy to prepare anything that my husband may want should I not find it at the buffet. All in all we enjoyed ourselves and the hotel met with all our expectations.

Room Tip: The courtyard rooms are louder, so if you like the quiet, request a room facing out.
