“Good value for the money.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2012

I love RIU All-Inclusive Resorts. They feel a little more luxurious than others- except for this one. The resort looked old and outdated. There were bugs or fleas in my sisters' room in the sink area. There were fleas or bugs on all the lounge chairs around the pool and beach and the open theatre. We all got bit like crazy. This one felt like a regular resort.

But I do have to say that their service was great. All personnel was excellent and took care of all our needs. The food was excellent. Entertainment was excellent.

There was13 of us on this family vacation. All in all, we still had a great time and it was a good value for what we paid.

We booked a last minute trip to this resort. After reading the reviews we were a bit hesitant to book. They were either really good or really bad. As for the amount of locals...if you don't want to see Mexicans...don't go to Mexico! I agree that on the weekend it got quite crowded which in turn would make the resort less clean. However, during the week there was a good amount of guests. The shows did focus more on the locals and were not in English all the time but again...you're in Mexico so I'm not sure why you would expect any different.

My husband and I brought our 2 month old son. We found all the staff very accomodating and helpful. For the most part (besides the weekend) the resort was very clean and well kept.

As for the food...we did not enjoy the snack buffet on the beach as there were a lot of birds flying in the restaurant and near the food. However, at night when it turned into the steak house it was very nice. The rest of the restaurants and buffets were very good. We really enjoyed the food. The Brazilian restaurant was very good. The sports bar was nice and always empty. It was a great place to get a coffee and baileys in the morning and some snacks in the afternoon. It would be a great place to spend a rainy day if you get one while on vacation.

The rooms were clean and a good size. The liquor dispenser in the room was a nice change. The fridge was filled up sporadically but when needed we just called and it was filled. The pillows are not very comfortable but certainly not something that would ruin your trip.

The beach was nice and you were always able to get a beach chair. The weekends were a bit more challenging with all the people but you would always manage. My husband and I both saw sting rays in the water on seperate occasions which made me a bit nervous. The numerous amount of beautiful palm trees made the views just that much better. We watched the sunset almost everyday!

All in all it was a great holiday. We would return to this resort, we would just make sure to miss the weekend!

First trip to a Riu in Mexico and I was very happy with the service, the grounds and the beach. The room was very comfortable and spacious. Food was especially tasty. Great cooks. You can eat something different every day, especially the Brazillian a la carte. Waiters, waitresses and housekeeping staff just awesome. Thanks to the entertainment staff also. Can't wait to visit again.

I did read up on this hotel and the beauty of it won me over . Big mistake . The locals will ruin your trip . I had never been to mexico and will never go back. The hotel and staff were great and the food was good. Not great but better than Cuba. We go to Jamaica and Cuba every year and this trip to what was a high star resort was a big mistake. We got there on a friday night and the place was 80 per cent locals until Monday. Tues. through Thursday 50 per cent locals . Not nice sweet locals like other places nasty gross locals . Kids cleaned there drink cups in the pool , so many gross things going on in the pools and no rules. There was signs but they don`t even read them. Tons of screaming kids and 60 per swim in there street clothes. Even the Adults swim in shorts and tops and a few in pants. They eat almost in the pool even when it says no food in pool area. Fries were floating in the water .They butt in at the buffet and are just rude. Kids are left unattended and grap food with there hands and put things back. Too many things to list but you saw this every single day. How to ruin a good looking resort.

Beautiful all inclusive resort, handles crowds very well. We visited at the end of October for 9 days.
•A superb check in, gave our name and were given a package with all needed material in it and a welcome ice cold drink.
• A sticker with our room number was placed on our luggage and brought up by the bellboy.
•rooms nice, very clean, great air condoning.
•beds and pillows are a little too firm, but slept well regardless.
•balcony off each bedroom with chairs and a table
•because of the open design of the hotel the noise echoes badly from hallways into rooms. TAKE earplugs!!!
•staff did not expected tips at all, but when we did tip it was appreciated.
•best meals we've ever experienced on a holiday.
•every Friday to Monday the hotel becomes extremely busy with local people. Hotel handles all the people well but we were taken aback by the rudeness of the locals shown to us and to staff members. This is the only reason we will not go back to this resort WAY too overwhelming.
•beach was great, always enough chairs, yes you have to pay for an umbrella but there is enough shade under the massive palm trees on the beach if you that is what you desire.
•I would recommend this hotel to you if crowds do not bother you, you are deaf or you travel with ear plugs!

Well for a Mexico- all inclusive vacation this is pretty good value for the money. Anytime you can get from Toronto to Mexico all incl 4-5 star for under $1100-1000 is good value in my mind.

Before we get to the hotel part, it is important to make note of the hustlers in the airport. No matter what any of them say to you just say no thank you and keep moving. They will try to separate you from the group you are with then intimidate you into paying them for something (carrying your bags, a shutttle bus to your hotel, etc). Some of them will even try to grab your bag out of our hands, so you have to be very direct and stick together as a group! I don't beleive they are dangerous they are just VERY aggressive, and look to take advantage of people.

Once we arrived at the hotel, the food was good, loads of great tortillas, guacamole, fajita's. Always very fresh. The beach bar/restaurant was our fave for lunch as it was easy and convenient to grab lunch there and head back to your lounge chair to soak up more sun. The a la carte's were ok, the steakhouse one was the best. If you can go there multiple nights I would, the brazilian really wasnt that great, and the asian was ok.

The drinks were ok. They were not the best I've ever had on a vacation, nor were they they worst. The rooms have all incl booze dispensers in your room which is nice if you want to continue drinking after you've returned to your room. We didnt really take advantage of these too much, but it was a nice feature.

The room itself was decent sized. The only complaint was that the beds were hard like rocks (which isnt totally uncommon in all incl vacations whether it be mexico, DR, Cuba, etc) however our room smelled very musty and moldy. This was less than enjoyable, but we figured since we were only sleeping in there we could suck it up. It might not have been such a good idea in hindsight because we both got very sick with a cold/stuffed up nose/sore throat which may have been attributed to the moldy room.

The weather was fantastic, not a drop of rain, and very hot most days between 33-35. The pool was very chlorine like and all the chairs by the pool were always taken so we spent our days at the beach and there was never a shortage of chairs down there. There were loads of beach vendors but they were not obnoxious, they had a good sense of humour and you could joke around or negotiate with them for a deal, or simply tell them no thank you that you werent interested. Some of them had good deals, and in the nearby town of Bucerias there was a little market with some great shops especially for pottery and vanilla. Also in town haggling and negotiating is a must. And if you dont like the price just walk away they will more often than not negotiate to get you to come back and buy from them.

All in all we had a great time!

We visited October 25-October 5th. The airport was horrendous with the time share people and really made a sour start to the vacation...big tip, just walk right past them and outside to your Sunwing Rep. Would have been great to have known that from the beginning as we almost missed the bus to the hotel.

Once we were on the bus everything was great....Alberto was amazing and very helpful the entire trip. Dinner reservations were difficult to get to the Brazilian and we wanted to try the Mexican but it was closed the entire time we were there. We did manage reservations for the Steakhouse though...and honestly the buffets were better.

Had no issues with locals that were there as they were all very friendly. There is one member of the entertainment staff that got on my nerves the entire time as when he was performing he catered to the locals. He would not translate a lot of what he said so we had no idea what was going on...he only hosted two nights thankfully though and the other hosts did amazing. The dancing show was phenomenal...great show. The rest were good for laughs.

The kids program seemed great and a lot of fun. Definitely would return with my two children.

Our room was very clean at all times, just be forewarned that there is not a lot of water pressure and it goes from hot to cold with no notice regardless of what temperature you have it on. Air conditioning in the room was great.

There was a man in the mornings making tacos outside and he was by far my favourite at the resort...very friendly and went out of his way to make you laugh, always a nice start to the morning! He wasn't there at the end of our trip, there was another man in his place and he didn't do as great a job with the cooking and the experience.

We lived on the beach and didn't do any of the tours...but did walk the beach every morning. They could make sure to keep the beach a bit more tidy in the morning after the tide has gone back out, but was not that bad at all. There were tons of chairs always available on the beach as well as at the pool (the pool has more of a fraternity atmosphere vs the beach which was relaxing).

The bed was ok....the pillows were not that great at all though.

The pools close rather early. Would have been nice to be able to go for a night swim.

Room Tip: We were on the 2nd floor right at the courtyard with a balcony...just off the elevator. It got loud...
