“Beautiful Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

I am a travel agent and I recently visited this property. The hotel seemed to be exceptionally clean. The chandelliers in the main lobby sparkled. The grounds of this property definately gives you the feel of a tropical paradise. Looking out of the main lobby towards the beach, your view is of the gardens and then the fantastic pool. On the other side of the pool is the beach.
The rooms are all junior suite rooms. Most Riu resorts have the same rooms although these rooms have new, flat screen tv's. The beds are the same as in most Riu's as well, large, very firm beds.
They have a nice variety of restaurants. I am a very picky eater but I will say that I always find food I like at the Riu Resorts.
Want to treat yourself? Book a oceanfront jacuzzi suite. Beautiful with unbelievable views!
The minibars are stocked and the Riu always includes bottles of liquor in a cabinet that you can drink during your stay.
This resort is in a nice area of Riviera Nayarit.

Absolutley the nicest place I have ever stayed. Jose in the sports bar makes the trip from good to great. The restrooms are not placed the best around the resort but they are always super clean so its worth the extra walk.

Room Tip: Now that i have sayed here twice I do not believe there is a bad room in the place!

At first blush the hotel appears to be magnificent however, upon experiencing the property as a whole, DISAPPOINTING. No palapas or umbrellas on the beach, unless you want to rent one for $15-20/day.
The food is the same, over and over and over, unlike any of the BAHIA PRINCIPE chains, where there are considerable changes to the buffet based on a daily theme,
The rooms are really quite nice and some have an impressive ocean view. There are several things you have to pay extra, for example the pool table in the sports bar.
I would NOT return to this hotel and likely skip RIU altogether, given much better choices available throughout the carribean and mexico.
That's just my opinion, I could be wrong.....

We stayed at this all inclusive resort for a week in late February. The rooms were good size, very nice and room staff did a great job keeping our rooms cleaned and refrigerators stocked. Our room was on the 1st floor. Unfortunately from our balcony we couldn't see anything but the building next door. We visited friends on the 7th floor and they had a fabulous view. The resort had a small workout room with only 3 treadmills among other equipment and one treadmill was broken the entire time we were there, so it made for a race to the workout room when it opened in the morning. There were also saunas, massages, and a hot tub in the spa area, which we didn't take advantage of.

The pool was very nice with plenty of room and a 2 level bar with more hardworking employees. It was difficult to get a lounge chair near the pool as by the time the sun came up, there was a towel on each chair! The closest bathroom was near the spa, which was a bit of a walk depending on which side of the pool you were in. It would be a big improvement if the resort could add a bathroom nearer to the pool. The beach area was very nice. We were always able to find a lounge chair at the beach and bar service was good way out there. Plenty of sun and shade. We had people coming up trying to sell us trinkets contantly, which was kind of a pain, but it was no different anywhere we went that week.

There were 4 specialty restaurants on the premises, which were difficult to get reservations to. We were told that you could only make reservations 2 days, however when we went back to make a reservation first thing in the a.m, they were booked! hmmmm? The resort may want to revisit their reservation practice since friends told us each evening they went to a specialty restaurant MANY tables were empty the entire sitting. We were able to get into the Mexican restaurant, which was very good. There was also 1 or 2 buffet restaurants, which had theme nights and were also good.

Each evening there was a martini bar and a show at 10:00 nightly. We attended shows two evenings and they were ok; certainly not Broadway, but good. Riu employees performed in the shows.

There are 2 other Riu's within walking distance on the beach to which we at the Pacifico had priveleges to. Those staying at the Riu(s) Jalisico or Vallarta supposedly did not have privileges to ours, but we talked with customers at each and they had come and looked over the Pacifico and had drinks at the pool, no questions asked. We visited each of the other resorts, but decided that our's was definitely the nicest and newest of the three.

Going off the resort, it was approximately a $23 taxi ride into town each way, but a fun experience. I'd also recommend Vallarta Adventures for any excursions you may be interested in. I'd definitely stay at a Riu again and would recommend this resort to others.

Room Tip: Ask for an ocean view or a corner room on a higher floor. Ocean view is probably an upcharge. We c...

I'm at the RIU palace right now! Day 5 of a 7 day trip. We ate at the Japanese ala carte last night, it was horrible! The worst meal ever stay away, the buffet is great. Another table of four got up and left when they were served. My father has been sick all night and day, and has not left his room. The prior 5 days we have had staff ask how the trip is going and how can they help. Today I have talked to customer service and front desk with the same answer a manager will call you. Well so far no call. Leaves me with the feeling of only tell us if we are doing OK. Pools a deep not child friendly. We upgraded rooms when we got here, and received a call as soon as we checked in to make sure we liked the room, but 12 hrs later still no call re: the food! I will post again to update.

The property is beautiful and clean but the food and drinks were very disappointing. The steak at the steak house could be compared to apple bees and the Lobster was burnt. The buffet was like eating at The Golden Corral. Good luck trying to get reservation to eat at one of the five restaurants. The rules for that change daily. I don't know who they are trying to full by saying top shelf liquor. They ran out of Jack went into a room behind the bar and came out with a half full bottle..how does that work. Every thing tasted like it was mixed with tequila. I realize were in Mexico but really. I did a taste test of the liquor in the room....it all had the same taste. Would not recommend staying here if you are looking forward to excellent food and drinks.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2013

We stayed 6 days the beginning of March 2013. Our flight and airport transportation were a breeze. (apple vacations). Check-in at the hotel was also a breeze. Our room looked just like the pictures posted. We didn't go on vacation to dwell on the little things other travelers have complained about... Such as not having a exhaust fan in the bathroom (we never shut or bathroom door anyway). If your spending more time in your room besides sleeping at night & changing clothes you’d better be sick.

The food buffet was good. If you can't find something good to eat or satisfy your appetite you'll never be satisfied. They have a lot of selection and variety. We booked the Japanese restaurant one night. It was really good! Go in with an open mind. If you don't like it you can always go to the buffet after.

The drinks were great. They have top shelf, many American brands. (not American beer obviously).

Pool entertainment was weak. Friends of ours were at the Vallarta, we spent two afternoons at their pool. It seemed more guests got involved in the entertainment.
I noticed that at the Palace the pool was a giant toilet. Most everyone that sat in the pool all afternoon never got out to relieve themselves. By mid-afternoon there was foam and garbage accumulating in the corners of the pool. It was disgusting. I couldn't get myself to go in it after seeing that. (it was like that everyday). I really wish there was a way that the water would change blue when someone pee's in it because that whole pool would of been glowing. But with that being said we were fine spending our relaxing time at the beach. They come around with drinks constantly. The bathrooms are to far away though!!!

Twice we walked to Bucerias (suburb about 3 miles down the beach). They say it’s only a mile down the beach – LIES. I'd recommend walking there at least once and having a drink and/or lunch at the big orange restaurant. (besides everyone needs exercise!) Step outside the resort. Awesome food. We tried out another little restaurant (hockey bar) on the back side of the orange bar. There is a flea market in that same area. Plenty of people to harass you and sell you their garbage if your into bringing trinkets home for others. I'd recommend having a few drinks before going in there though!

The entire beach is public so the vendors are going to try and sell you their junk. Kindly say NO THANKS if your not interested they will walk away. No need to be rude.

If you take a left down the beach from the Palace and walk a block there is a massage place. It doesn't look like much but it's by far one of the best massages we've had! $50.00 a couple well spent.

Our 3rd day we did an ATV excursion in the morning (booked through hotel). It was a good way to see the outskirts of town. It was very dusty but we didn't care and were prepared. They make you wear goggles and dust masks along w/ a helmet.

I can't review the hotels nightly entertainment. Sad but true that after drinking and in the sun all day we were tucked in our beds for the night by 9:30.

My advice, “Don’t expect perfect, you’ll be disappointed.” We loved our vacation and would highly recommend the RIU to others. Apple Vacations were very accommodating. I'd be happy to answer any questions any other travelers may have!

Room Tip: Our room view was nothing to ride home about. But once again we weren't in the room enough to ca...
