“Wonderful stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2014

My husband and I had a wonderful stay in this beautiful Chateau in Amboise in mid May. The service was excellent and the building and gardens delightful. If you can make a reservation in their restaurant do so as it is a not to be missed experience. We could not recommend this hotel more highly.

Just ate at the restaurant. Food sublime, atmosphere the right mix of quality and service without being over the top. Langoustine main course achived perfect balance of adding complementary flavours without overwhelming the langoustine.

Hello,

I recently stayed with you and a couple of my clients. The scenery was fantastic, the food was very good, and our rooms were incredible. My room was a perfect mix of old style charm, and modern comforts.

I have only one critique. My clients being affluent Americans, they were accustomed to slightly more present and available wait staff. Several times, the waiter or waitress would look at our table for such a quick second, we were unable to get their attention to order drinks or dinner. We would try to raise a hand only to see the waiter scurry away before he noticed us. Only after a few attempts did we manage to get our drinks order in.

Apart from that, everything was absolutely wonderful. Food, decor, scenery, comfort; all top notch.

Thanks again, and I will be sure to return next time I have clients request a tour of the Loire Valley.

We stayed at Chateau de Pray for 2 nights. It was too expensive for what they offer. We stayed outside the hotel, in the room Pavillon (4 people). It is not really a Chateau experience. We colud not even visit the Chateau inside. When we arrived in less than 5 minutes they showed us the restaurant, coffee room and back yard (we tried to go to the backyard twice, but it was always closed). The restaurant was always full, and you have to book one night before if you want breakfast (we did not had breakfast there). The room is large, modern bathroom. Close to Amboise, but you need a car to get there.

Room Tip: If you want a Chateau experience, do not stay in the rooms "outside".

This was a bit of a splurge for us, but well worth it. Hospitality was super--we got to choose between three rooms. All were lovely, and we got one on first floor with a door out to the garden and its lovely view.

Super weather never hurts. We had stopped at a local winery and bought some wine, and when we got here sat out in the garden (see pic) with it lovely view and just enjoying everything--us, the view, and the wine. Indeed, we were all alone out there from 5 till 6 or so and it was like we were the owners!

We did NOT have the breakfast as it was a bit pricey, but wow, it looked super. We were sorry we stayed on a Monday when the dining room was closed for dinner, but they confirmed our choice of the restaurant at hotel La Breche was a good one--in fact they sent another traveler there as well.

The location was great with a car. Five minutes into Amboise. I buzzed in there to take a job along the Loire at dawn, then we returned to stroll around this lovely town and have a bit of petit dejeuner.

It was clearly pricey to stay in your own Chateau, but worth the splurge without question.

Room Tip: Get the first floor room with door to the garden

Leading up to our visit the staff were helpful and prompt with their correspondence. My two young daughters loved exploring the gardens and it really was like a dream to sit in the beautiful chateau grounds with cheese and local wine watching the girls play. The hotel organised some bikes for us to hire and had these delivered to the hotel, and on another occasion organised for a local babysitter while we dined in the restaurant - the girls loved their sitter, and we loved the restaurant!! The breakfast had everything we needed and was served in the beautiful l'ongerie. All of the staff were friendly and so accommodating of our needs and of my daughters, even cooking a special meal for them. Such wonderful memories - it wasn't a dream!!

Room Tip: The family room has two bedrooms (one with king bed and one with two single beds) and two bathrooms...

I stayed here for 3 nights with my mum & dad, sister and 2 young nieces (7 years old and 20 months old). The gardens are superb and the service exuded nothing but excellence. We ate at the restaurant for 2 out of 3 nights, and the service was exquisite. I cannot recommend this establishment highly enough. I dream of the day when I can visit again.
