My wife and I have traveled quite a bit. And we have stayed at dozens of hotels. We stayed at Hotel Alhambra in Changuinola, Panama in September of 2012. This review is all about the room in which we stayed at this hotel. I have seen cleaner gas station restroom than the room in which we had at this hotel. The only reason we stayed at this place, we had just arrived from Boquete via David and were tired and sleepy. Further, we had an early bus ride the next morning to San Jose, Costa Rica.
The room was filthy. Badly needed cleaning. The two bath towels they gave us for three people were older than the hotel itself. There was mold in the shower, permanent dry glue all over the bathroom floor and walls. Shower door does not keep water from flooding the bathroom floor. It appeared that the black colored toilet and sink had not been cleaned for some time. There is no security to our room. Anyone with a key could have entered our room while we slept as there was no way of locking ourselves in. No inside security lock on the door. Once in your room, you can hear your neighbors whispering in the room next door…thin walls.
Twenty minutes after we were in the room, the A/C stopped working. They told us the entire building had no A/C and that a technician was on the way. The unit to our room came back on in about fifteen minutes. There were no table, desk, or chairs in the room. One has to use the bed for seat. Early the morning before checking out, we tried using the internet, but to no avail. The internet goes down sometime during the evening and does not come on again until 8:am. About 4:am the morning, several men congregated outside our room in the hallway. They were loud and obnoxious, but no one from the hotel came to investigate and calm them down. Hope we will never again be put in such a situation where we would have to stay at this hotel.
