“Serene Views. Pristine Nature. Great Hospitality.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

We had a very refreshing experience at Kalmatia Sangam. Stayed in the Himalayan Magpie. Room was clean and decent. Views were breathtaking. Loved the outdoor seating even though it was a bit nippy. Staff were very courteous and helpful. Food was great. Narendra Roy, the manager has done an exceptional job in managing the place and making the guests feel ever so welcome. Mornings were a bit chilly to get out of bed even though the fireplace was stoked. Would recommend the resort to add heated electric mattress pads to the beds - at least for the winters.

For those interested in treks, the downhill hike is recommended to enjoy the wilderness and rural life. Ensure that you carry a snack and a bottle of water.

Room Tip: Loved the patio at the Himalayan Magpie. Floors get cold in the winter - ensure to carry slippers. B...

Peaceful, Serene & Sublime is what comes to mind when we recount and remember our experience in Kalmatia Sangam. Settled amidst princely pines and mist the resort offers a breathtaking view of the Nanda Devi Range. We spent 2 nights and 3 days starting 26th September 2013 in the resort and were blessed to have taken a correct decision in deciding the place of stay. We stayed in the "Cuckoo" & were delighted with the size, space, location and the view offered from the cottage. The resort also offers other tastefully done up cottages with all the facilities for a comfortable stay and each with it's own view of the pristine nature and the snow clad mountain range. The staff was very helpful and also looked into many of our special requirements as I had my 1 year old daughter accompanying me. The small library and sitting area has been very ornately done up to cater to all the needs of the guests. The food served is very well made leaving the guest looking forward to the next meal. For the outgoing types like my family they also provide very sumptuous baskets as takeaway meals on your picnic and touring rounds. The best part is that the advice and guidance provided by Mr Narendar Roy (Resort Manager) is very accurate and practical. People who would like to enjoy their “Drink” are however suggested to carry the liquor of their choice with themselves as they would face an issue in availability of the same in the property and even in Almora.

Overall, I look forward to returning to the property once again and that I believe sums up the quality of my experience.

Kalmatia Sangam was managed by a German couple till a recent takeover by a PPharma. company. Every cottage has a balcony or main door opening to a view of the silvery Himalayas. Although September is considered non-season, we managed to get a glimpse of the pristine mountains on two days. The weather was fantastic and so was the service. The manager, Narender, is very helpful, and has some helpful map guides for you for the different scenic treks that the place has to offer. The eagle's nest cottage has the best view. The food was amazing and we had Lebanese, Indian, continental cuisine choices on different days. They even offer packed lunch for your treks. Here are some tips to help you
1.There are no proper signs leading to the hotel and we found our way only because of the GPS on the phone.
2. There is a lot of walking between cottages and dining. If you have a problem you can request for a cottage close to the dining area
3. Dining timing is a small window, so inform the staff if you want an early or late meal
4. You will have to switch on the water heating system whenever you need hot water.
5. The staff will bring logs for the fireplace on request
6. There are massages available on request. A spa is currently in the planning stage
7. Google has very inaccurate information regarding travel time regarding the mountains. Please enquire road accessibility and distance details from the staff before you plan a trek.
8. Once in a while, there is a rogue man eater around these areas. Be careful to stick to the local pathways
9. Vehicles like Tata indigo is quite useless around these areas. Be careful when choosing your taxi
10. Local vehicles are better for the mountains

We visited the place in December 2012 and spent the new year with our family there. Kalmatia is a nice quiet resort near Almora with a fantastic view of Nanda Devi. If you love a green place with good homemade food and great service, this is the palce to visit with your family and friends. The place makes you forget the noisy world and you wish that you stayed there forever

Our family of three had a great 5 day stay in Eagles Nest Cottage in Kalmatia Sangam during August 2013.

This resort is a gem nestled in Kumaon Himalayas with acres of thick foliage interspersed with handful of cottages.

Fabulous food, great treks, awesome views and some ancient temples - there is enough in the vicinity for a five day holiday.

Despite the anxiety around travelling in the mountains in the region during the rains our trip was safe all the way and the mountains were gorgeous and green.

The staff is professional and friendly. The service is world class. And Imogen was a great host, we took all her recommendations for the treks and we these proved to be great experience.

We hope to be back again sometime.

I was bit apprehensive travelling this part of hills since lot of bad news about weather and tragedy at Uttarakhand . All of my apprehension proved wrong the day we landed at Kalmatia Sangam . I went there with my family My wife sarika , Daugter Tavishka 8 year and son Reyansh 1.5 year old , and we had a very relaxing stress free 5 days at the resort .

Its a nicely built property with 10 cottage and we stayed at a cottage Cukkoo .Place has a very nice setting amidst nature and birds chirping in the morning and great view of the Himalayas .

Service was good and staff very friendly . Imogen who is a certified therapist was good in arranging our outing , advising and taking care of our comfort .Me and my wife also had nice therapy session with her and she was good .

Only negative point was food which was little bland and not upto my fiery north indian taste buds . There is not much to do for small children .

Nature walk in the property is must as its very soothing experience .
