“Awesome hotel with excellent location, Hospitality and service in reasonable prices..worth it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2014

West view is a heritage hotel owned by lady based in Delhi which is also my city. I have been to West View for 2 days from 11-Jul-14 to 13-Jul-14 with my 4 friends and my experience has been more than awesome. The best thing of the hotel is its location. Away from busy roads and noise It is surrounded by beautiful pine trees forest which makes one feel very close to nature. One can enjoy a walk in the morning or evening walk in the forest which is mesmerizing.
If i talk about the rooms and ambiance I can easily say that it is close to perfect. Rooms are well maintained, spacious and gives you a glimpse of British era. The second best thing about the hotel is its staff and hospitality. Staff is very nice, helpful. We all were girls and staff members and the manager over there (Mr Tanwal) helped us to get any stuff if we wanted from the main market and also guided us about the places to visit nearby. Staff like Mr Bachharam accompanied us for a walk in the evening in to the forest to ensure our security and safety. All these small gestures made us feel at home. Food is hygienic and of good quality and the restaurant staff (Mr. Prakash and team) is so active when it comes to serve the food that they will place the required item on your table before you could ask for it.
Though the hotel does not serves alcohol but it is not a problem for those who wants to have it as the main market is just 3-4 km from hotel from where you can easily get it and you will be allowed to bring it in the hotel provided you have it within your room.
Last but not the least the two wonderful dogs (Jay and Jimmi) who are very playful and friendly they will even accompany you in the forest and will add more adventure to your trip if you are a pet lover.
Overall I would suggest if you ever plan a trip to Ranikhet then West View would be the best choice you should go for.

Room Tip: Corner suites will help you to have more privacy and a easy walk in to the forest.

I have a huge grouse against the owner/manager of West View. Obviously Ms. Raikhy can't take positive criticism. I am usually easy to please, never have i been treated so badly by an arrogant woman lacking basic courtesy and manners.
Hence this urge to put down the facts of an interlude with THE most rude person, 2nd to none!!
No doubt the property is what it says, a heritage property, grand in it's time. A sorry state today though.
It started with us being served a very mediocre dinner and breakfast, which was part of the package
The lunch we had on arrival IN the dinning room was such a lovely treat! NOT part of the package and NOT served as a cold buffet in a room with dirty tablecloths.
I requested to meet with the woman who ran/owned the place. but as i walked past the reception, i saw the receptionist walk around his desk to call me in. I think he was told not to as he turned back to his station.
In i went anyway, and very nicely told her how lovely the place was. And what a nice lunch we had.
What she didn't like hearing was that we were served Nutralite NOT butter. Nutralite is not good for my stomach, (margarine usually has artificial trans fat).
She didn't like hearing that the table linen was dirty, the container of dirty dishes left by people who had finished their meal was right at the entrance to the dinning area (note NOT dinning room) which made you nauseous as you walked past.
Or that the food was not of the standard one is used to from such a highly recommended hotel. On Tripadvisor, too!
Coffee was watery, bakedbeans were, well, not baked beans as one knows them to be. Fruit, bananas, were over ripe. Oily deep fried breakfast items served.
Now the accommodation..........i didn't see any " Queen Annes style –Luxury Personified!"
Worn out, torn, dirty upholstery and damaged furniture. Dirty & unhygienic blankets.
Bathroom may have been cleaned, but didn't look it. Just talking/writing about it makes me feel sick!
The photos, hopefully will say a lot more than i have!
I didn't even realised there was a "The sit out Café". There was a cafe, but never anyone inside!
As for the nice staff....i think it was more a case of the iron hand that ruled them and thus they served you, rather than a happy lot of helpers.
The madam in charge more than once tried to dismiss me by saying," thank you very much", with that look as if to say, you don't know a thing about good service, get lost!!
She doesn't know a thing about customer service, nor does she have a clue about being a gentlewoman running a heritage property.

I think the problem with her and the hotel is, they may not see too many of the clientèle who have seen really top class hotels. Also Ranikhet is probably not a 1st choice for those with discerning taste. I don't mean to sound like a snob, i'm not!
Hope someone pays attention to my 'positive criticism'. And i did notice many of the reviews had something negative to say.

West view is a beautiful property. Rooms are nice, bathrooms are clean, service and food is great. One can also enjoy nature walk from the hotel itself. A small family trekking if I may call it. I would love to visit this property again. I was also touched with their service where in they took care of small things after over hearing our conversations. A must visit property.

The property as is well known is a heritage property inherited by some Indian from Britishers. All I could say about my experience to this property is that it s being run just for making money. The tariff are at par with the 3 star property but not even a 1 star in services. The rooms are good and give you the feeling of experiencing the old days. But it has nothing else as commendable. I don't know for what purpose they have provided a full fledged door in the bathroom and not even a single ventilator for proper ventilation. The overall bathroom size was very good but again the bathing area was reduced to an obstructing space of around 3 x 4 sq-ft.

The kids play ground was provided in the backyard just adjacent to the huge valley endangering the life and safety of your child. See-saw and other similar small games were broken. But they have compensated it with the dressing stool provided in the room which will give you enough to lurch to and fro. The tariff is of 3 star but the quality and variety and taste of food is even poor than a local Dhaba. They will not let you gain weight by eating too much on MAP basis as they will not serve you the Chapatis oh... oh ......sorry....... Naan (prepared from cheap raw material called maida) on time and your hunger would eventually ripe off from the time you extend in waiting for them.

Moreover, there is no space for your Driver so its better to be ready to pay hefty amount for your Driver too, quite disturbing.

From recreational area point of view, they provide you a badminton court with three rackets (whose grips are ripped off) and an old shuttle. Apart from this, there was a Samantham Boutique, dont know from where it derived its Name but its a small room of around 5 x 7 sq-ft with an old mirror and some futile scapegoats for your money.

Room Tip: I gave you a good reason to choose your accommodation.
