Vlore is an up and coming Albanian beach town. The hotels are like those you would find at a low-end beach town in the U.S. The rooms are small, basic, uncomfy beds, few amenities, but right at the beach. New York had a decent restaurant and pool. While I was there a huge section lost electricity including the hotel so I had no hot water and little electricity. It's Albania - they're trying.
The beaches in Vlore range from busy to crowded. They are clean, which is most important. Some are sand, some rocks, some a combination. The water is clean and I swam. The nightlife in Vlore is good, as are the restaurants. Mostly this is a family-type destination.
Traffic was a huge pain. It took us 30-45 minutes to get to this hotel from the center of Vlore - 1 or 2 km away. There is the one seaside road and that's it.
Vlore itself is about 3.5 hours drive from Tirana on good roads. Perfect weekend getaway. There were lots of Europeans coming in from the ferries.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- At the edge of the magnificent coastline of Vlora, located in the fantastic city, near the tunnel where crystal waters flow for centuries through the greenery of pines, appears Hotel New York. Its location in the most beautiful part of Vlora bay known as The Cold Water, at the foot of Mount Shuschica make it a real miracle. The Hotel's bridge passes over the national road Vlore-Saranda and gives the impression of a ferry docked there forever. ... more less
