“Mediocre at best”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2010

Don't stay here! Little room, fairly not nice bathroom, very little “hot” (lukewarm-cool) water, cramped rooms, musty smell, mediocre food. We were told we'd have an extra bed set up but it wasn't (and really couldn't fit into the regular "deluxe" room anyway). If you can swing the few extra dollars, it really pays to stay at one of the luxury hotels nearby, we ate at one of them and it was delicious, and had them set up a boat ride because we trusted them more than the Coconut Creek people. (by the way, a two hour boat ride was the perfect time spent on a tour.)

We spent a relaxing two nights at the Coconut Creek Farm Homestay, which was a oasis of calm after the many chaotic charms of north India! We very much enjoyed the warm and welcoming atmosphere and the home cooked local cuisine was some of the best we tasted in all of India. The beautiful surroundings and the attentive staff made us feel most welcome and we were very glad to have selected this beautiful and peaceful homestay over one of the many souless resorts in the area.
As well as being an ideal starting point for a houseboat trip on the Backwaters, Coconut Creek Homestay was also conveniently located for the Bird Sanctuary, the Kathakali and Kalari Centre in Kumarakom and the incredible Driftwood Museum.

I enjoyed my stay with my family at coconut creek.
I stayed for 1 day at homestay. It was really nice experience
The room was very neat & clean, the garden was very nice & beautiful.
It was really homely experience. No variety in food as it is homestay.
The backwater is at walkable distance just 5 minutes from homestay.
Mr.Babu, the owner also booked houseboat for me, which was very nice. W also enjoyed our houseboat stay.
Overall it was really superb trip.

Coconut Creek is a small homestay with 3 large clean rooms. We enjoyed our stay there and the food was lovely. The surrounding area is beautiful but you are a long way from any major places. We spent a day seeing the backwaters but then were ready to move on.

One negative was that it didn't feel very sociable. Meals are served in sittings 2 people at a time so you don't sit and chat with the other residents. We didn't see anyone on the first night we stayed there and ending up having a very early night as there aren't many places to go after dark. The owner also had limited English and so it was a bit tricky trying to find out what there was to do locally.

We had a great time at coconut creek.Except for the humid weather,we enjoyed our stay at Kumarakom. The hospitality of Mr and Mrs.Babu and team(especially Lalchen)was commendable indeed.Nothing was too much trouble for them, they willingly met all our needs.

The only drawback was that the rooms were a bit too small and the shower in our room didn't drain well,so we had a mini flood there.

The houseboat experience was awesome. But it was sad to have missed the ride to Allepey backwaters where we were told the paddy fields are below water level. On hindsight we should have done the houseboat ride from Kumarakom to Allepey rather than Kumarakom to Kumarakom.

  • Liked — The homely food and hospitality
  • Disliked — The room space

During my first trip to Kerala in January 2010 I had booked “Kumarkom Honeymoon Package” (1 night Home stay and 1 night Houseboat stay) from Coconut Creek even I was not there for honeymoon. The best think about this booking is that, I have got reply of my every mail within 15 minutes even when I had sent my first mail to them at around 2 O’clock in the night. The entire booking process was simply done by sending mails and paying advance through net banking without a single phone call and involving any third party.
Every commitment made by them had been followed perfectly, timely and without any remainder. The car for pickup and drop was timely in place, the room and houseboat were made ready well in advance, and they served every meal in time, really very nice coordination and arrangement!
Firstly, the deluxe room at Coconut Creek was nicely decorated, well maintained, properly cleaned though not big enough. The area inside Coconut Creek is awesome. As this is a home stay you cannot expect any front desk or reception staff but you can get help at any time by simply pressing the bell. Also there is no menu card for food/drinks and most of the time you have to take whatever they cook. Taste of food varies man to man but I liked the fried fish they served, rests were average for me. There is no view of Vembanad Lake from this house. The bank of the lake is just 2 minutes walking from the house but I am not sure how much one can enjoy the lake from that place. There is nothing to do after sunset except watching TV. If you want to have some good view of lake from your room or balcony, than this is not the right place for you.
Next comes the houseboat stay of my package, I have very little word to explain those beautiful experiences. The boat was very clean with good enough interior decoration and of course ultimate hospitality from three on board staff. I will never forget… They prepared very good food. One of these was fried fish (They called it Lake Fish). Very yummy!!! The boat sailed through canals and lakes and I enjoyed the beauty of the surrounding. The full moon made that night more romantic for me.
As I stayed in two places (Home stay and Houseboat) in Coconut Creek and I have only one option to rate Coconut Creek in this website, my opinion is only for the home stay and not for the houseboat stay.

Our Stay in coconut creek kumarakom was a great experience.

The ambience was great, the surrounding peaceful and serene, food delicious, and the owners were more that helpful.

Especially with small children with us we had no trouble at all and it almost felt like home.

Would like to extend my heartiest thanks to Mrs & Mr. Babu (owners) for all their help and assistance.
