“Nice stay but food is expensive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

This was a nice home stay. Though the room is very small, garden attracts a lot. Food is quiet expensive. I was surprised to see 700/- bill (more than a buffet dinner @ big hotels) for the dinner. The cost per plate is Rs.200/- and each fish piece is Rs.150/- extra.

Hi,

Thanks a lots for mentioning Coconut creek is a nice kerala bed and breakfast in kumarakom and homestay stay ambiance are very beautiful.

We are offering MENU in each room and do not say after getting the bill you have surprised with price. Now a days none of the guest are with out asking price or with out seeing menu foods are ordering. So when the time of ordering you knew the price.

Also we have served UNLIMITED Kerala Sadya meal with Kumarakom KARIMEEN Fish fry for 4 pax not for just one person.

As you said buffet lunch is cheaper in hotels..But you do not know the reason why it is..The hotels have minimum 12 rooms, open restaurants for public not only for in house guest (room guest),banquet hall, conference function etc .So for all these the hotels make quantity of food. When you make quantity of food it would be very cheaper. They use same dishes with different style for lunch and dinner buffet .Also they can use same food for different function in their hotels. They have new preservation technology too.
But homestays has only maximum 3 to 4 rooms (Approved homestay with license) .There is no open restaurants for public.Food serve only for in house guest. So the homestays are making only very less quantity food. That also after the guest order. So the expense will be huge than hotels bz the quantity is less. Also the homestays could use the food for different functions for different guest.

Just a TIP Before Choosing homestays; you must know homestays has lots limitation than hotels. But the local and heritage experience you will get only in homestays not in any kind of properties.

First of all I'd like to thank Mr Ullas Babu for making my vacation a memorable one. We were a pretty big group and stayed at Coconut Creek for a day and house boat the next day. Mr Babu arranged the house boat stay aswell. I booked Cocunut creek purely by going through the reviews from Tripadvisor and people were not wrong. We had a great stay at the farm house and our kids had a great time in the lawn and the swings outdoor. Babu's chef was able to accomodate any last minute request to prepare the type of food we requested. The food was EXCELLENT !! Next..Houseboat was a great experience. We took a 4 bedroom houseboat and everything was great from the food served to rooms.
Mr Babu helped us in arranging all the transportation from pick up to going to house boat and arranging a day trip to Cochin for shopping...
We will surely go back to Coconut Creek if we ever vist Kumarakom again ...

Room Tip: Check with Mr Babu in advance for the food prepared to request for the food you want.

I stayed with family for a day. We are vegetarian. Food was awesome. All dishes were keralian.
Rooms and bathroom were clean. We had a great time. Lake is at walking distance from this place. Kumarakom has less options to visit. Alleppey is better in our view. But if you want a lazy stay with good food. Stay here you will be having great time.

A lovely friendly homestay in the middle of a village and close for village walks and canoeing on the lake. The deluxe room was very comfortable (the basic one less so with poor ventilation)) and the food was excellent. We were made very welcome and our hosts and their staff couldn't have been more helpful. Thank you for a lovely stay

Room Tip: Book the Deluxe room

Hi,

This review has written of a grudge against us bz we didn't offer a complimentary air condition to this guest .
1. The review says coconut creek is difficult to find out . As per our google address and tripadvisor address every one can find that we are between Radisson (Zuri) 5 star resort and Whispering palms(abad) 4 star resorts which is the most popular 2 resorts in kumarakom. This a resorts lane road in kumarakom which is familiar to every one
2. The review says old name was different. For the public information we have uploaded our license photo in management photos section and any one can check it .Coconut creek has stared in 2007 and since 2007 we have only one name.So please don't fake it.
3.We have good enough ventilation and please check the photos by guest in tripadvisor
4.This guest need every thing free including air condition . So the people like him/her we have to take the money first. None of the reviews says that we are taking the money first from the guest. The guest is always paying the bill in check out only .
5.This guest room is non a/c then how he/she is complain about air condition. Also we didn't offer the complimentary a/c also for this guest.
6.We the budget homestays in kerala for the proof that only we have been awarded the best homestay in kerala by kerala state tourism department in 2009-2010 . Please avoid critics that we are money minting persons
7. Thanks for mentioning our staff and foods are good.

regards

First of all i have to thank my travel agency to book a room here in this home stay.

We had a stay here @ Jan 2013. Stay was very very pleasent.

It hosts a separate kitchen with all needed utincils. if you want to cook you can use it.

But the room is very small compared to other resorts which we stayed in the trip. ( A/C Std ).
There is no restautents nearby.. you have to depend on them or you have to cook yourselves ;-)

This is the best location if you are going as a family and want a relaxing stay.....

We got the most out of what we paid...

Secret: Raw Mangoes from the mango trees here are tooooo good to eat..... mouth watering...

Overall.. this is a home away from home...

Room Tip: Go for a Bigger room...

We stayed in the homestay for a day(17th to 18th october), as per the reviews a good place to stay and unwind in this nice village, food is really nice and the staff is nice and courteous and there is ofcourse a personal touch, just 2 recommendations for improvement 1. the money charged for the food could have been lesser as its a homestay and its houldn't be as of a 4 star hotel. 2. the houseboat booked for evening could have been better.

Dear Sir/Madam,
Warm greetingsssssssssssss

Thanks lots for your good review about us with the title Nice and Comfortable kumarakom homestay. This kind of reviews give us positiveness reach our.As you have mentioned the total food cost in kerala becoming little high.As per the recent economic survey; Kerala is the costliest state in India for daily usage items and consumer durable items. This conditions force us to increase our meal price since after 2 year with fair pricing policy.

Regarding houseboat your total booking was through makemytrip.com with 100% payment on arrival. So after arriving you have booked houseboat. It was dasara holidays week and all the luxury houseboat had already booked. So with your interest we had offered you deluxe houseboat with budget pricing for evening cruise. So with budget price we are able to offer you only deluxe category houseboat.

We are hearty welcome back you and your family to kumarakom & coconut creek budget hotel .
Have a great time ahead!!!
