My husband and me stayed here for 2 nights and we loved it. We stayed in the canal view room, and contrary to what a few travellers experienced, the canal definitely was not stinking. The staff was extremely helpful. The room was beautiful, a bit elevated and all the while it smelt fresh with some Ayurved perfume. We didn't find any roaches or lizards, the linen was clean. We strolled around the property, in the bird sanctuary, it was refreshing. The view was awesome, specially when it drizzled a bit. We loved the pool too. I would love to return to waterscapes again, great amenities at a lower price.

Room Tip: Lake facing rooms would be better.

The property is simply beautiful. The location is easily the best in the vicinity. The ideas and the planning of the resort are simple and the lakefront cottages are the best. It's as if you are on the lake with nothing in between you and nature. You can spend the day lazing in the pool which is adjacent to the lake watching the boats go by . The birds keep you company and the entire effect at sunset is just out if this world. The restaurant is built on the lake on stilts and you have to constantly remind yourself that this in India. The furniture in the restaurant is also in tune with the ambience and the morning breakfast watching the birds and the boats is awesome. The staff is also pleasant and unobtrusive. We did not budge out of the hotel for 2 nights and were not bored for a minute. The bird sanctuary is right next door and it is worthwhile taking a walk there. Early mornings are better although we never made it very early. It's a bird watcher's paradise.

The property could be better maintained; for ex the water around the restaurant was not very clean with plastic bottles, rubbish etc. Ktdc does not have boats of its own and has an arrangement with an external boat operator. They arrange boats if required. The property could be put to better use if they have some other water based activities. For now, they say that you can either go boating or go to the sanctuary or go visiting a drift wood museum.

Overall, very quiet , clean and a must see place.

Room Tip: Choose the superior lake front cottages; the priciest , but also easily the best

all the cottages are as if u are in jungle enjoying nature and on top of the tree.
the bird sanctuary is in its limit & taj property next to it. ppl enjoying nature & birds chirping will surely enjoy.
after reading the negative reviews of bats/lizards & rats in the cottage, I thought I should write my exp also, as I did not see anything like that. All though there were bats in the sanctuary but not in our cottage, we wer in canal view cottage (canals were clean, no stinking smell)- ac, refrigerator, gyser, tv was working fine. infact they had a small decoration in both the rooms we booked.
we enjoyed the swiming pool & its location/ view. room service, hospitality was fine.
I do recommend ppl to visit the resort if they visit Kumarakom.

A relaxing natural retreat well tucked in among lush marshlands. That would be the best way to describe waterscapes Kumarokam. One should note that this resort was built on top of thick and pristine marshlands, and hence every care has been taken not to disturb the natural habitat of the abundant fauna which calls this place as home.

Why u should come here : lovely feel of jungle cottages laid amidst marshlands(virtually on top of them), Lots of bird species co-habiting with you, the bird sanctuary right next door and a short walk away and dont be surprised to find a few turtles lazing around outside your cottages at night as u walk back to your rooms from the restaurant..!!!

Positives : 5 stars to this place for the great location. Food quality does deserve a thumbs up. The menu range on offer is wide and the Juices and soups served are freshly made and not tetrapack stuff. Efficient House keeping and Room Service. Staff are polite and courteous.

Things to do - laze around in your love nest if you are a couch potato or newly married love birds. Else if u r more into activities, there is always a early morning walk inside the bird sanctuary next door, and a ayurvedic spa with a range of massage treatments on offer, boat rides up the creeks on the vembanad lake and ofcourse the lake side swimming pool to wade through and relax. (The pool is just 4ft depth max. hence non swimmers too can float on..)

Eyesores - The lakefront adjoining the resort could be maintained better. Its a eyesore with lots of floating plastics.

PS - Have seen many contributors complain about the dirty streams. Just to point out marshlands rarely have clear water, but have lots of moss and fern and algae in them. so consider it as in its natural form. The only dirtiness to them comes by the waste which we as visitors throw in them such as plastic bottles and other personal stuff. I even saw a few pieces of lingerie floating in them. Sad Really..!!

Room Tip: Cottages Close to the Swimming pool and the lake are definitely much better.

Just loved the way the rooms are built here.. Individual cottages raised at a 1st floor level. The welcome was pleasant and the rooms clean and hygienic.
Would recommend a stay in this resort. It is located inside the limits of Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary. So every morning, as early as 5-7 am you can just walk the defined track (approx 2kms one-way) and reach a bird-watch tower.. You can also hire a guide with the hotel's help the previous evening. The guide can easily help you identify the many varieties of migratory birds that you can see from the watch tower.

Room Tip: By paying a few extra bucks, you can choose a room facing the beach. It's an experience out of t...

Lacks maintenance totally. For us it was a horrible experience. When we first entered the room it was smelling and there were lizards At night when we switched off the lights, bats who were already residing in the cottage started flying. When we complained, the staff said that it is common thing in that area since the resort is beside the bird sanctuary. However they gave us another cottage. This was around 1130 at night. Next day we were explaining about the situation and about maintenance of cottages at the reception(in english) there were two ladies who were shamelessly laughing. Don't know whether it was because of language problem or whatever. The food quality was average. The canals are stinky. In total it was very bad experience.
