We felt so privileged to be the first guests in this perfect place. We had to keep pinching ourselves to realise we were there! The house is hidden away on the peninsula overlooking the lake and surrounded by the lake at 3 sides so you feel like you are on your own island. The pool deserves a special mention as it is the most amazing pool we have even been in - granite infinity pool with the most beautiful view. Truly paradise! There are no resorts close by so it really is very private. The house only has 2 bedrooms and we would recommend you book the place to yourself.
Accomodation: the highest standard. The house has been renovated sympathetically to keep the character but also modernised to make it very luxurious. The house is actually 450 years old in places and has a fascinating story which makes it really feel part of Kerala's history (it has even been in a film!). Both the house and garden provide numerous places to relax. We especially liked the big swings. The bathroom is outside which works well with the climate!
First class service: Vinod (our house steward) looked after us so well. Plentiful supply of water, drinks/food when we wanted them, arranging us a boat trip with only a few hours notice. Nothing is ever too much hassle. As we were the first guests the staff we were almost a 'trial' but the service was seamless. There is also a security guard so you feel very safe and a chef (Babu) who let us experience some true Keralan flavours.
Food: we had breakfast/dinner included. There are no restaurants to walk to but the food is both full of Keralan flavour and presented beautifully. The Keralan breakfasts were a treat, lighter food such as salads & tandoori chicken for lunch (they have a water filtration system so no worries about dodgy water) and either flavoursome Keralan curries or Meditteranean food for dinner. All very yummy and the table was always set up so beautifully by Vinod whether it be breakfast or 3 course dinner. You can also eat on the jetty for a special candle lit dinner.
This is a truly beautiful place and the managers had further plans for the future which will make this place even more special. If you are after privacy, luxury and something different to big 5* hotels to experience some real Kerala then Vismaya is for you.
