“Good resort for stay only”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2013

I stayed for 4 nights in The Grove from Dec 24 to 28. Resort is well located on the lake side and having very good lake view from open areas. Rooms are specious and well maintained with big balcony. However, Balconies are of little use and the view from the balcony is towards an open plot with little view of the lake. Only 2 rooms on the front towards lake are having full view of the lake. You need to close the balcony doors after evening due to mosquitos and insects.

Hot water was not a problem. Bathroom was OK, it was not the best of a kind which you would expect in the resort like this. I found red ants roaming inside the bathroom.

Staff is well behaved. Other activities includes pool, swimming pool, etc.. Kids will enjoy in the swimming pool. They will also provide fishing rods for kids.

This resort does not have kitchen with the rooms as with the other Royal resorts. Food is very expensive in the resort restaurant. Roti itself will cost you Rs 50 per pcs, It was just a medium size and normal taste less roti, a person with normal diet will easily eat 3 or more. VAT and service tax extra. As a Royal Resorts member, I would expect a small kitchen with the room at every resort because this was one of the key point based on which they sold the membership.

You can sit alongside the pool and enjoy the excellent lake view. Resort is good for one time visit if you are coming from long distance via flight. Next time, I would rather go to Royal resorts in Goa with better amenities which is near to my place(Pune) and has developed beaches.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front side towards lake are having full view of the lake. Also get some mosquito protect...

Not Kayal, Not Coconut Grove, now it is 'The Grove' resort, as mentioned by the resort General Manager (Jaison Anithanam)...The confirmation voucher (guest certificate) issued was in the name of Coconut Grove...the 2 reservations were done on 6th Sept '13.
1. Resort management did not inform us that the resort name has now changed to 'The Grove'. We searched the resort using the Android navigator on phone for almost 2.5 hours...I called the reception number and was only informed that previously it was called Kayal resort...we searched this Kayal resort on the navigator and it gave the exact address as in the reservation voucher...but the driving instruction took us to a green field and there was no road ahead...then the reception informed that resort is at Kumarakom South...we had to find our own way to get to the resort with help from local people...
2. On reaching the resort, we were surprised that one of the reservation we had was mentioned by them in their system under some other guest...we had to prove that we had 2 separate reservations, only then they updated the booking details in their system..
3. We were also informed at the check-in counter that the check-in time is 4pm, though our reservation voucher mentioned the check-in time as 2pm. I had also called them earlier and they agreed for early check-in at 12pm. We had to get the Sales and Marketing manager to talk to each other and let them know that they are legally binded for us to check-in at 2pm, as per the reservation details.
4. Room and the resort ambience is good. Lighting during evening is good..
5. Location is at the lake, which is good
6. There are very few indoor games facility...they only have little bit torn billiards table..carrom board is without the powder...no table tennis etc...they only have swimming pool..So, it is difficult for children and adults to pass some time...
7. They provide only 4 tea/coffee and milk sachets in the room for entire 1 week...if you need additional (even small milk sachets) it is chargeable...
8. Restaurant service is poor. The raita for the veg biryani and sauce for the noodles was provided only after half hour (we had the biryani and noodles till then). Such poor was the restaurant service..
9. One of the room (303) did not get hot water. This was consistent experience.
10. For anything that you let them know, they informed us that the staff is new and limited and it is very difficult for them to get the correct staff and keep them from leaving.
11. I also spoke to Arvind (sales team), and let him know about my experience and that it will be shared on TripAdvisor, and he let us know that it is OK. It seemed he did not care about the experience I shared above...

When you stay at well known resort, you expect good service...not only good room and resort ambience...as mentioned above, our experience (2 families - 7 people - 4 adults, 3 kids) was poor on the service aspect...

We stayed at this 'The Grove' resort for one night on 8th Oct.

Had an Excellent stay in the month of November. Very Modern Place with a beautiful view from the room. The Resort is designed in such a beautiful way that you dont feel like moving out of the same and specially when you are on your Honeymoon.

Would like to thank the Management for having such a beautiful property and excellent staff.

Regards,

Carmin

Room Tip: Choose the rooms on the ground floor facing the back waters and in front of the pool

it is not Edassery Kayal resorts any more as the name has been changed as 'COCONUT GROVE' after it has been taken over by ROYAL RESORTS Goa(ODESSEY) and named it also as Chakra resorts from sept.2013.
I stayed there with my time share from royal resorts from 25th to 27th Sept,2013. No doubt it is a beautifully laid out resort which you understand if you see the photographs I have attached. The resort has been redone after the take over, and so every thing looks new, nice and beautiful. Almost all the staff are newly employed and it is better than very good service. the restaurant is very nice and the dishes are excellent. As usual the rates are bit high, but there are no nearby restaurants any where( as it happens to all resorts type) and so you have to spend the money to eat there, There is no kitchen facility like in other royal resorts, except an electric kettle to make your Coffee or tea. The Manager Mr.Padmaraj arranged a boat( with good furniture and roof) for a 3 hours cruise in the back waters and the lake. This was worth going. The swimming pool is beautiful and clean but it is uniformly shallow all over and you can not dive in it. Good for Non-swimmers and children. The resort is about 15 Kms from Kottayam Railway station and the Auto charge is Rs.220 and Taxi fare is Rs.600/- The resort looks very beautiful in the night by the right type of illumination all over. Over all, I enjoyed my stay there.

Room Tip: First floor is good for winter and rainy season and Ground floor is good for Summer season

First it is no longer an Edassery Resort, it is "Coconut Grove" now, taken over by the Chakra group (a part of the Royal Resorts). The resort on the first look gives a foreign feel to it, I don't know what the people are complaining about, maybe the complains are from the time when it was owned by the Edassaery group. The rooms are very well appointed, all having a beautiful view of the lake. The whole resort is built on a water body (almost giving you the feel of being built on stilts like Venice). The food options though are limited, since the hotel has just started it's new operations, but though limited the food is quite tasty. What's lacking is that there is no life-guard around the pool (where my 7-yr old almost drowned). This resort is an ideal location for a short stay, you would run out of food options within 2 days otherwise. The views are quite breathtaking though.

Room Tip: All rooms are pretty much the same, with the same view! Ideally rooms near the lake may have a bette...

We stayed in Kayal resort in Dec 2012... overall hotel is nice n gives you underwater island feel. However, considering many other options available in Kumarakom, this was thumps down... No swimming pool.. very limited veg food options... Hotel also arranges boat for tour around the kumarkom village. Early morning boat ride is a must n gives pleasant feel... the boat directly arrives in backyard of hotel n drops back which is good...

We had been there is off season and never had such wonderful experience in life time. The location is one of the best next to 7star Zuri resort and price most reasonable. All rooms are beautiful and well mainatined with lake view. Staff was most courteous and helpful. If you love seafood that this is the place !!

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent. Suggest to book and go in season as it seems to be popular place as reasona...
