“perfect honeymoon getaway in the midst of backwaters”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2010

We had stayed at Coconut Lagoon for our honeymoon and must say its one of the perfect place to be at.

The property is beautifully located at the end of backwater canal beyond which there's lake everywhere on its two sides. Since its situated in the middle of the backwaters, one has to reach using a boat and when you enter the hotel the boat takes you right in the middle of the property. It has small canals all over the property with small butterfly century, a fish century, paddy field and swimming pool.

The rooms are beautifully laid out to give a heritage look with a traditional kerelian open bathroom. It has no TV but you can bet me you wont require one! We had stayed in a duplex cottage with bedroom on 1st floor having windows on two sides giving a wonderful view of the property.

The food is excellent all throughout the day with lots of varieties...even offering organic food with tasty preparations.

Activities include indoor sports, swimming, gardening, catching fish in small canals or a pond, butterfly garden, visity paddy fields or just relaxing with a book taken from the in-house library. There is also a bird sanctuary just opposite the property and you can always go for a early morning or evening boat ride around the beautiful backwaters.

Arriving by house boat to the Coconut Lagoon was an experience itself. Once our reservation had been checked by the guard we were welcomed in true Keralan style with smiles and a dub (fresh coconut). The whole resort had an eco feel from seeing the cows chewing on the grass and the efforts in the rooms to be ethical and true to the environment. Open air bathroom was great, even if you did have to share your shower with a few lizards.
Our villa was set on two floors with our bedroom on the top floor. For those that have walking difficulties, the stairs were slightly steep and the wooden steps could be slippery. However, the wooden decor is part of the keralan charm of the villas.
The restuarant buffet was enjoyable and despite being a busy, managed to provide a romantic atmosphere. The music was appreciated.
There were many actitivites on offer, from cookery and music lessons to nature walks. The pool was nice but busy.
Overall a great place to relax in.

Fantastic hotel in a brilliant location. Approached only by boat and accommodation is a group of luxury individual 'cabins'. Brilliant for relaxing.

I loved it here, could not fault it. The website description is really exactly what you get. The staff are amazing, polite, enthusiastic and very genuine. Spoilt rotten here, the Hotel has a lovely feel to it. If it was good enough for paul McCartney then what more could you ask for.
I want to retire here!!!!!!

We went to Coconut lagoon last year as part of a tour organised by The Kerala Travel Centre and stayed for 2 nights. We enjoyed it so much we finished up this year's tour (again with KTC) there again, but for 6 nights this time. Last year we were upgraded to a pool villa which spoilt us, so this year we paid the extra for it!
Apart from the setting, accommodation and food the main attraction is the staff. They remembered us from last time, not just at reception, but walking around as well. They really spoiled us and made us feel quite special.
On arival we had a couple of hours to kill until our room was ready so we went on the orienteering walk. The staff quarters (yes we were shown around them), the micro sewage treatment plant and water purification plant were impressive and confirmed that they really do try to minimise their impact on the environment. After the tour we were chatting to a very pleasant women in reception about books and India in general. At dinner that evening she walked past our table and lent me one of the books we were talking about earlier. When I had finished it a few days later I tried to return it to her at reception, assuming that she was one of the receptionists, it turned out that she was the general manager!
On the last evening it was my wife's birthday, they prepared a special table and menu for us and then said that the meal was on them. So 10/10 for service.
Needless to say, we will return again

I am a Travel Agent who has had the fortune to stay in some of the best hotels around the world through my business,
This Hotel is certainly one of them,
Coconut Lagoon can be reached only over the water. The Hotel sits beside Vembanad lake, an inland sea that stretches clear across central Kerala,
Once there your check in is a dream, coconut milk to drink while you sign in,
We had 2 nights here & from the moment we arrived we knew we were in paradise,
The staff cannot do enough for you, laze round the pool with a fabulous view of the lake with it's fisherman, rice boats & wildlife,
The food was excellent & our room too,
If you are considering going to Kerala, i can contact the hotel directly for you & you can be sure of the perfect short break or Holiday,
