“Wonderful peaceful paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2014

We stayed at several CGH properties which were all terrific but this one in particular was excellent. The location and the arrival by boat to the tune of the flute and drum gave a hint of the whole special and peaceful experience in store. Loved that there were no TVs or wifi in the rooms. The setting by the lake and with the waterways and little bridges contributed to the serene ambiance. Staff were delightful and the ayurvedic treatments great. Only the yoga was not quite as good as in some of the other properties.

Room Tip: Heritage rooms were lovely although there is a flight of steep stairs inside.

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of a 12 day family holiday and couldn't have been more delighted - from the romantic arrival by boat into the reception area to the peaceful and comfortable lakeside heritage bungalow it was everything we wanted for a real r&r few days in between exploring the Western Ghats and cities. Our two teenagers were happily tv & gadget free and never complained about the restricted WiFi availability as they were busy having so much fun in the delightful pool and exploring the beautifully maintained gardens. Faultless and friendly service.

Room Tip: Ask for heritage lodge overlooking or on lakeside for wonderful sunsets.

We stayed there for 5 days. Since there are no TV & WiFi in rooms, I expected more facilities and activities for a resort this expensive. The Badminton & Table Tennis facilities are not maintained and are not located among staff quarters & suitable for guests.
The fact that we had to climb a bridge with many steps every time we had to go the restaurant was not comfortable. Since we were isolated from transport - the only way out was by boat - there should have been a 24 hour café. The only positive items were the entertainment (music/dance) before meals. The whole experience to me was boring. Suggestions. Classes in Pottery, Wood Carving, Coir weaving, Painting, There should be a Common Room located close to the reception, where there should be Games such as Carroms, Darts, TV showing traditional Kerala culture and cooking. Common room will provide a place to meet all the guests and talk.

Room Tip: Cottage 19 to 24 are close to the open lake but more to walk to the restaurant.

We were dropped off at Coconut Lagoon by our CGH Earth Spice Coast Cruise staff/boat so arrived earlier than checkin time. After a few minutes, they announced that our room was ready....because the hotel was full, we were upgraded to a lake-view villa with plunge pool, which was spacious and had a beautiful setting between the lake and dormant rice paddies on the other side. The bathroom was huge with a walk-in shower and two sinks. We did not use the plunge pool at all but really enjoyed watching the birds on the back patio and the lake activities on the front patio (mostly backwater cruise boats and a few canoes, etc.).

We took a wonderful nature walk with Manoj, one of the naturalists, to the village and then back around to the resort. We also signed up for a bird-watching tour the next morning with the other naturalist, equally interesting. We also saw lake otters on the way to Coconut Lagoon, a large monitor lizard, and of course many different birds. The kingfisher became one of my favorites because the different varieties are so colorful.

Staff was friendly and helpful, though service at the restaurant was uneven. Food was expensive so we didn't opt for the evening buffet. We typically avoid resorts, but this property is very well-managed and well-maintained.

The next time we stay, we would try the heritage bungalow and/or the mansion for their more intimate and personal feel.

A Refreshing Break for those looking for Nature in it's Virgin form.
The Approach is by small boats that ferry you to the Resort to be welcomed by smiling staff with
Garlands & Coconut Water, The Cottages are Authentic and well maintained with comfortable and defined facilities [ I missed the wi-fi, though i got good Internet Network on Mobile to create wi-fi HotSpot for my i-pad ] The Food is bland ( since many foriegn tourist can't digest the Indian Chilly ) could have been better there,
Activities like Fishing, Butterfly watching or Local Site Seeing eat up your otherwise never ending day.
Ayurvedic massage seekers can get some good professional service at decent rates.
Overall if you are a Foodie..Move out to Local Places and Stay here with Nature.

Room Tip: Book the Cottages facing the Sea for Sea Breeze and Sunrise

This resort is a treat for the nature lover. The proximity to the bird sanctuary will ensure you'll wake up to the sounds of birds chirping. The resort has a schedule of activities that guests can attend during the day. We attended the early morning (7:00AM) yoga class, which was nice.

Staff: The Staff was excellent and very friendly.
FOOD: The food was good but not exceptional.

You'll find motor boats to take you through backwater canals at half the price compared to the hotel, at the boat Jetty. Although, you have to bargain a little. we paid Rs. 1100 for 3 hours.
