I am delighted to offer the first English review of Le Bout du Monde. This restaurant is on the beach just about 3 miles north of Cerbere and you cannot see it from the highway. It is worth going a little out of your way if you are staying in Cerbere or Banyuls sur Mer!
My wife and I are cycle tourists and, as such, work up mighty appetites each day. Since we carry no cooking gear, we always eat in restaurants. It is fair to say "you can't go wrong" in the Catalan regions of Spain and France. Many restaurants prepare regional dishes from local, fresh ingredients. It's all delicious.
Le Bout du Monde takes it up several notches for just a few euros more than you might spend in a typical coastal restaurant. The staff was friendly, generous, and accommodating. We enjoyed chatting with them between courses.
As cyclists, we always look for a bottle of fresh water and are delighted if one is supplied without us having to ask. Le Bout delivered.
My wife had a baked fillet of dorado (bream) which was done to perfection. I had a brochette with fresh scallops, shrimp, and some other goodies that was also perfect. The scallops had just the right amount of crispness around the edges. Both our plates had some plump tasty mussels thrown in for good measure. We each had a very flavorable garnish of pureed sweet potatoe that was a surprise delight.
Other delights were poached apricots for dessert, and the vin de pays was an excellent bargain. The whole meal cost us about 60 euros. We had a special meal and a very nice evening. The other guests seemed to be enjoying themselves as well.
