“worthy 2 star hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

Stayed overnight in September on the way to chamonix. Family suite was spacious with two bathrooms and fully renovated and tidy. There is a nice porch/balcony added to the unit. Good location near the center with restaurants nearby within a walking distance. Stuff helped us to find proper opened restaurant late in the evening. comfy small hotel. Breakfast was OK as well.

We have just stayed in this Hotel for a second time, escaping to the peace and quiet of a low season Valberg at the end of our season on the coast. The service is spot on, the beds are comfortable, the wi-fi works a treat, and the shower blasts piping hot water. Free buffet breakfast has plenty of choice and the communal dining area is really nicely done. Plus the tv on the wall was a decent sized Sony Bravia. No complaints whatsoever...

This hotel is in the centre of Valberg can be hard to locate with a sat nav. Very very basic rooms but clean and relaxing. Good cold buffet breakfast. Fantastic scenic walks from the town centre nearby .

Room Tip: All rooms are very basic. Top floor has best views and less noise.

We stayed 2 days at le Chastellan. The rooms decoration is very basic, bud the beds are comfortable and firm. We even needed heat late June and were able to turn it on. Loved the smell of the shower gel. Very nice.

Breakfast is an awesome buffet: a very good start for our bike rides.

The owner was very helpful in sharing hiking maps too.

Room Tip: The hotel is off the main road. All rooms are good!

Spent two nights here in March. Room comfortable but rather drab with brown painted doors and bed covers. Rather dated feel. The room was too hot and the window would not open. However, the bed was comfortable and the towels were soft and white.
The breakfast was very good with plenty of choice. There is a ski room for boots, no boot heaters.
It is a good budget hotel, OK for a short stay. It is a short walk up the hill from the village centre.

Room Tip: We were not given a choice of room.

We took the Bus Neige up to Valberg for the last 3 days of Christmas break and as we had never been before honestly were not sure what to expect from the hotel or the area. We were very pleasantly surprised!
The staff at Hotel Le Chastellan was amazing! They were so kind and helpful and really went above and beyond to accommodate us and our nearly 3 year old daughter. We stayed in a double room that they supplied with an additional bed and it was very roomy and comfortable as well as quiet at night.
Our ONLY complaint is that the walls/floors are quite thin so it was very noisy and woke our daughter in the morning as everyone was pounding down the stairs at 07:00 for breakfast before hitting the slopes (our room was literally at the head of the 2nd floor stairwell).
The play room that they have right off of the restaurant is large and has a decent variety of toys to occupy kids of various ages. We couldn't get our daughter to leave in the evening after dinner! There is a lovely couch area with fireplace in one corner of the dining area which is lovely to sit and have a glass of wine before or after dinner.
Dinner itself was from a prix fixe menu but was absolutely DELICIOUS and satisfying and much less expensive than dinner in town.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Valberg, it is close and convenient and a great value but above all, the staff was simply amazing (we are an American/Canadian couple that has lived in the South of France for almost 2 years so we are quite used to the French idea of "service"...while most people used to American standards of service would find this hotel completely acceptable they may not find it exceptional the way that we did...in any case, you will not be disappointed!)

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms right at the top of the stairs to avoid some of the "stair noise" early in...

We stayed for 3 nights in a double room with additional bed. Overall the hotel is good value for money, the location and service particularly good. We also appreciated the breakfast and the children's play area which came in handy. Only criticism was the size of the rooms and price of the evening meals - although the quality was fine. We would have no problems going back but probably eat out more.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the lower levels - we certainly appreciated being on the first floor at the end of...
