“Perfect for a 4 day stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2011

We were able to book this Borgo very last minute (less than one week before check in) at a good rate (880 euro for 4 nights, for 2 adults and 2 children, breakfast and parking included).

The Borgo is located a few kilometers from the small village Rosia, 30km from Sienna, 30km from San Gimingiano,... And is set in a small medieval, nicely renovated, village.

There are 16 appartments, all renovated in the original style. Our appt was huge: a large living and dining room, a small but well equipped kitchen (stove, oven, dishwasher,...), 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms.
Some minor negative points:hard beds, bathrooms in need of updating, small windows, not bringing much light in the appt, the road next to the hotel is quite busy so leaving the window open at night is not possible.

There is a pool (not heated), a tennis/football field, table tennis.

Breakfast is served on the restaurant's terrace, with pool view. The buffet contains everything you need, bread, cereals, fruit,... And the maitre and his 2 waiters are happy to bring anything else from the kitchen upon simple request, without any extra cost.
The restaurant also offers lunch and dinner at an honest price, and the food is really of high quality.

The restaurant team are really outstanding. Although their English is not that good, they bend over backwards to make your stay enjoyable. In fact the entire staff of the hotel are the best, always friendly without faking it.

To summarize: our stay at the Borgo Il Poggiacio was super and much too short.

Room Tip: Ask for an appartment on the ground floor.

My husband and I stayed in the "La Romantica" room for 1 week during our honeymoon in Italy. I loved the grounds..... a beautiful Tuscan landscape and convenient for day trips to Florence, Sienna, etc. I still dream of dining in the restaurant.... the staff was so wonderful and the ambience was truly amazing. The best food we had in Italy was at this restaurant. If we ever get the opportunity to head back to Italy, visiting Borgo Il Poggiaccio will definitely be a MUST. Loved that they lend bikes to the guests!

We have stayed in the mini village which at first seemed to be lovely, well maintained and calm. Well it was calm and there was no entertainment or imagination. The house we stayed in was overprized, dull, dark and not clean. I think all apartements were overprized. The area is nice but there are defintely better place in Tuscany towards Florence or more to the South. The management did not react very active towards our demands for cleaning. The charged us for pool towels, were not helpfull and hospitable. The pool was not very clean and everthing lacked maintenance. The big plus are the staff in the restaurant. They are lovely, caring and genuine people. Food was lovely and wines are great. The menu was a bit limited.

Be you a lone traveler, a family of 4-6, or a party of 10 to 65:traveling for the scenery, a taste of Italy, an anniversary, or wedding, Borgo il Poggiaccio is the place for you and yours. This has been my home away from home for 10 years; even recovering from a sprained foot for two weeks this was the one place to be. The knowledgeable and friendly management and staff accommodate your wishes or requests, the location in Tuscany is perfect for day trips, the grounds and facilities cannot be reproduced. It is the place to taste Tuscany, or simply enjoy the pool and grounds and let the world slip away.
You may cook the local produce in the well-appointed kitchens, take a cooking lesson or luxurate with the excellent food the chef prepares for the restaurant. Breakfast sets you up for a day at local sites, bicycling, tennis, side trips to wineries, pool side reading or just sitting behind sunglasses and relaxing.
Dine in the outstanding restaurant facility or the glory of out of door dining on the terrace. The lounge or terrace welcome you for an afternoon cocktail or cappuccino and a chat with the worldwide travelers who return each year. Share tales of local experiences and learn where to go next. The sunsets, with swallows dipping in the pool, piano music from the lounge will relax you after a busy or leisure day, comfortable sleep will ready you for the next day in Tuscan Glory.

We've been staying at Borgo il Poggiaccio for the last five years. Its a perfect base for seeing Tuscany, a twenty minute drive to Siena, half an hour from San Gimignano and under an hour from Florence. We've stayed in several apartments, all of the same high standard. My wife and our young children love a relaxing day by the pool. The best part is the beautiful old restaurant for breakfast and evenings. Irena the owner always makes us feel special right from the first visit.

My wife and two young daughters enjoyed a wonderful week at Borgo II Poggiaccio. The property and setting are stunning, but the hospitality by the owner, Irena, made our visit special. The location is good for trips to Florence, San Gimignano, and Siena. We will definitely return. Cheers!
