“beautiful location, wonderful food, impressive feast!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2013

We had a group feast as the restaurant prefers their meals to be. And it was amazing! Dining overlooking a pond with lizzards swimming or sunning themselves on rocks serves as amazing entertainment between meals.

We had no issues with mosquitoes as per previous comments, however we were there for lunch. Hot tip for European travellers- this is the tropics of Australia, its humid, hot and rains alot. Eat here at this time if year which is wet season means there will be mozzies! It is a brilliant venue, and staff are attentive. But the food uis Devine! It is expensive, but it is an an amazing Thai feast that will make you sad to leave.

Biggest regret is not living close enough to do the cooking classes... I am just resigned to having to wait for my next spirit house experience!

“Flavour + with style”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2013

Lunch for a widely travelled & very demanding Sydney visitor, 3 pax, we were given a 12 to 2pm slot, en route to the airport. Having dined on several occassions over the years we have never been disappointed. No, it is not cheap, A$70 per head, but what of quality is? 3 starters are really flavourful appetite stimulants, scallops, pork belly & satay. The pork belly sauce was so good we kept the serving dish so that we could pour the remaining sauce on our rice. Mains were spatchcock with peach, curried duck & calamari salad with mango & lychee, yum, 2 serves of rice, which was too much for 3 pax. The flavours just keep building & building without being overpowering. Service was just right & they don't push overpriced bottled water!
Also, surroundings have to be seen to be believed along with "entertaining" water dragons.

“Incredibly over rated!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

After buying their recipe book and cooking myself some amazing meals I was desperate for a trip home (now live in the UK) to go and eat a Spirit House. I was so excited for some yummy tasty thai, expecting the level of what I'd had at other high class thai restaurants in Sydney, what I wasn't prepared for was the disappointment. Such a shame that their menu was lacking somewhat in choice and the main meals lacking in taste. I would say not much more than you average local thai restaurant. The setting was pretty good for a special treat, but the mozzies take away any relaxation you can get from the water features. Such a shame as their cook book is AMAZING and recommend buying it!

“An experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

This is my 4th visit to the Spirit House; the standard and quality never changes; the menu certainly does and the food is exquisite. The prices have risen quite noticeably and yes the serving portions are small. But the taste its worth every mouthful, the flavours are multi layered in every dish - even the watermelon salad is a standout. The service is second to none. The surroundings are as if you are in another world....it was raining the day we were there for lunch and it just added to the magic of the gardens.

Its a special treat but do treat yourself; you won't be disappointed.

“Great ambience with overrated food, inflated costs and a setting which detracts from the money your about to part with!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013 via mobile

The entrees were very small - beef paper thin at $15 a serve! Mains were lovely however flavors not uncommon or spectacular, nor was the 'hotest' dish hot or spicy by any means (personal taste I know). Wine list is good but very overpriced. Our host was verging on rude. The gardens are lovely and the setting is relaxing. Just really didn't live up to my expectations as everyone says its a MUST do.. I won't be recommending it I'm sorry. Try for yourself but be prepared to pay the $$$.
