I have been eagerly awaiting to find an authentic Mexican restaurant in my area, and I am so very happy to have found El Cactus!
This is a really sharp, well decorated little restaurant located across the Chateauguay river overlooking the beautiful Saint-Joachim Church. It is located in a historical area dating back to the Battle of Chateauguay of 1812.
The restaurant is beautifully decorated with authentic Mexican colours and artifacts accompanied with mood setting music.
The food is authentic Mexican, and is a pleasure to the pallet.
The owners operate the restaurant, as I have now been there about a dozen times and always find them working the kitchen, the bar and the floor.
For some reason, my wife and I simply cannot get enough of their Taco El Pastor which is served with an awesome pineapple hot sauce that brings out the taste in a most marvellous way.
The drinks prepared by one of the owners are great too, and they use high end Tequila from their own private import for the making of all their special drinks.
From my observations, they make frequent additions to the menu (perhaps daily based on availability) as we have often been offered appetizers equally deserving of our satisfaction. Tonight, we enjoyed an entree of seafood, fruits, spices on tacos. I don't remember the name, but I remember I loved them.
The spicy and tasty Mexican taste seems to open up my appetite, because as a person who dislikes vegetables and fruits, at El Cactus I seem to eat everything in my plate.
Right now, they have really cool deserts, sorbet served in frozen fruits halves that I can't get enough off.
I recommend it to anyone in the area who enjoys trying new places and experiencing great tasting food.
