“Five star views, four star service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2013

El Castillo is all about the location set high on the hill above Baracoa on the site of the old fort. We had spectacular views over the town to the sea and then from the balcony spectacular vistas out to El Yunque and the terrifying looking air strip. The pool area and bar were lovely and made the most of the views, our room was spacious and clean and the balcony was an excellent spot for a sundowner! We had hot water (gasp/swoon) and were genuinely comfortable, in part due to the fierce, but welcome, air conditioning! Breakfast was pretty average unfortunately and it was hard to get much in the way of a smile out of anyone but I can't see how you'd get a better place to stay in Cuba's first capital!

An amazing hotel where the staff bends over backward to accommodate. They greet you like family and make sure you are comfortable and cared for. The rooms are clean and large with windows that open to the amazing views of Baracoa. The pool is wonderful with a view of El Yunque from the water.

Room Tip: Ask for a room by the pool on the second floor - the views are the best!

I recently returned from a 4 day stay at El Castillo. The views are fabulous...of the sea and the charming town of Baracoa. The rooms are comfortable with fridge, TV and Air Cond. The food is quite good. The pool was crystal clear. Best of all is the helpful and pleasant staff...from the director of the hotel to the wait staff and the chambermaids...everyone was anxious to please and very accessible. I hope to return soon...it was great.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the pool can be a bit noisy if there are a lot of swimmers. It didn't bother me.

I recently spent 5 nights at El Castillo and was very pleased with the cleanliness of the room, the magnificent views and especially the friendly, helpful staff. The pool and bar area couldn't have a more stunning backdrop of the mountains, beach, city and bay. Highly recommended.

We just returned from a visit to Baracoa, Cuba, which is a magical city on the eastern tip of Cuba.
We stayed at the Hotel El Castillo on a hill overlooking the city, the port, the beach and the Atlantic ocean. This is a Three star hotel with a million dollar view. The staff is outstanding: friendly, helpful and resourceful. Our rooms were clean and comfortable, the food is good and the price is the best.
Sincere thanks to the director, the maitre d', the receptionists, the porters, waiters, waitresses, bartenders, cooks, and even the gardeners who gave us flowers for a memorable stay.
The lovely pool more than made up for occasional water shortages which are endemic in Cuba.
We will definitely return!

Room Tip: All the rooms have a spectacular view. The newer wing is breathtaking in two ways: the view and the...

The Hotel El Castillo is a VERY nice hotel, by Cuban standards! It is located in an old Spanish fort, which was built with a commanding view over the city and harbour entrance.

The view from our room, number 221, was, by any standard, stunning! It enjoyed views over Baracoa city, the harbour bay, and the unusual flat topped mountain, El Yunque. The rooms are good sized, very clean, with the usual facilities (i.e. air-con, fridge, TV, safe).

The hotel boasts a decent sized swimming pool, overlooking the harbour bay, an a la carte dining room, and a separate pool-side bar. Perhaps due to it being off-season (we visited at the end of September), the dining room was not available for dinner, but the full a la carte menu was available in the pool-side bar area, which was fine apart from the very hard bench seating! Breakfast was good and served in the dining room.

Due to its high elevation, being a former fort, the only downside to this hotel would be access for the less fit & disabled. It is a steep walk down to the city, and many of the rooms can only be reached by several steps.

It is easy to see why this hotel is consistently rated as the best in Baracoa!

Room Tip: Rooms 219 to 231 are the highest, and offer the best views, but are only suitable for the physically...

I was with my group in this hotel on this holiday on august! A great stay, large rooms, a huge breackfast and a beautiful view of the whole city of Baracoa. Of course there is also a nice pool and the staff was installing the wi-fi connection! A good choice!
